I was just discussing this with a friend about two weeks ago. He asked me that since a lot of big franchises are splitting between two parts that The last Battle could also be split in half.

I think that it wont be a bad idea at all. There are many other things to add in the film from the book to make it longer. Perhaps add the week later in the real world before Eustace and Jill goes to Narnia. We can see Peter and Edmund pretend to be plumbers to go into Digory's old back yard in London where he hid the rings as a boy and of course experience Susan's overshadowing of not being a part of Narnia no more.

For the background I exept this for LB:
not so much blood
no horror
no romance ( maybe one or 2! )
A dark set, since Narnia is at it´s end, like dark oak trees, a dirty lake, burned up stuff, and then another half with apple trees, and a clear water and happy stuff. So it would show Narnia ending :((

Two parts would be a great idea! It will get enough time to explain what is going on with character development and plot and story when there is a lot of time at hand and they wouldn't have to rush. i'm all up for two parts for LB! :D

I don't see how they could realisticly make to parts for a movie that only lasts several days, that would just be really weird.

I'm not against the idea that Last Battle just might be split. I agree with most of what you've said tvan! I agree with only half of 3. In my opinion since I've just gotten out of a thread about Susan's happening I think it is best to have Susan heartbroken the last time we see her. I'm not trying to offend anyone and i really don't want to start a discussion over this. If they hadn't implied that change with her in the PC film I might have been up to the idea of her believing in Narnia again or her stepping into Aslan's Country again. But since a particular thing happened I rather they left Susan's beliefs blank.

I know some of you say the phrase "Once a king or queen of Narnia always a king or queen of Narnia." in this situation Narnia doesn't exist anymore, this is the morning this is Aslan Country. I believe it is not "Once a king or queen in Aslan's Country, always a king or queen in Aslan's Country." ;)

I'm kind of split about whether or not the movie should be made in two :- On the one hand, I'd LOVE to see more England stuff (and I'm guessing they'd probably add more of the Pevinsies anyway, because those are the recognizable, ah, "marketable" ones ;) ), so that would be cool. I would also LOVE a huge battle; bigger and better than the others, much more angst-filled. PLUS Aslan's Country. Ah, if they make this movie, filmakers have their work cut out for them :p

On the other hand, they might add totally pointless stuff. Or it might become to repetetive and get boring and long. Like a lot of others have said, there's not really enough content to make it into two movies, and when they start adding stuff, you never know what they'll come up with.

A physically huge battle would be utterly contrary to the book. A small, highly intense, character-driven battle would be much better.

The emotional power of LB's last battle comes from the fact that we know all of these characters and they're dying in front of us. A bunch of faceless CGI-ed crowds getting slaughtered takes the emotion right out of the equation. Seriously, did anyone feel any emotional reaction to the creatures dying in LWW? The Night Raid packed an emotional punch because it was smaller, we knew the characters and there was a reality to their deaths that you just don't get from hundreds of characterless creatures dying in the background. And then of course it just makes the Narnians look that much more incompetent that they didn't notice a massive army of Calormenes' invading their country until it was too late.

I agree that the battle on Stable Hill should be an intimate one and scaled as in the book. That would definitely increase the emotional impact as Bookwyrm mentioned in his post.

But I do think you could show some larger scale also by perhaps showing briefly the Calormenes taking Cair Paravel while Farsight the Eagle tells of that event to King Tirian and the others. The 20 ships mentioned could be carrying thousands of troops altogether.

And there could even a shot of a huge column of Calormenes marching past Roonwit the Centaur's body towards Stable Hill. Those could be the Calormenes that just keep on coming without number near the end of the battle.

That way the main focus would be on the actual final battle and its more intimate nature; but you could also show the audience that there are really big things happening elsewhere as the book does mention them. :)

Oh, I agree in showing the full-scope of what's going on in Narnia. I just think Stable Hill should be the absolute focus.

Yeah, the Stable Hill battle should have more of a climatic feel to it (Like PC?)
It should be darker, progressing throughout the films like Harry Potter, and more sinister. Then protagonists will be older so this sinister feel should come more naturally within the content of the scrip (Unless they completely todler proof it, in which case I will not see it becasue it WILL NOT work!)
I'm not sure how they will make a donkey in a lion skin and a lazy monkey seem like terrifying monsters without anyone over 7 years old saying "What? (sarky-) Ah Scary?!' but I'm all in favour of making it!
I'm excited for this as well but if we want to see this soon then SC will have to be next, and if we want it to be made then SC will have to be made first-full stop.

Just a short summary of ideas, i'll probably think of more! :)

I do NOT like the idea of two parts. [-(
I DO like the idea of it being longer. :D
Then we have more scope but don't have to go to the cinema twice.
Unless you wanted to. :D :)

i dont think LB has enough in it to be made into two full length movies. 1 two hour movie should definitely suffice.

"I'm a beast I am, and a Badger what's more. We don't change. We hold on. I say great good will come of it... And we beasts remember, even if Dwarfs forget, that Narnia was never right except when a son of Adam was King." -Trufflehunter

One movie, yes but it needs to be far longer than 2 hours to cover everything and wrap up the series. I think something like 2 hours, 45mins would have to be the limit (remembering this is a children's series, even if LB is pretty intense and depressing at times).

LB is one of the more difficult books in the series to adapt. I don't know what they will do if they make it that far.

The whole backstory where they have to look for the rings and then are on the train and the accident...I think it's going to be tough to tell that story in a film.

And the last last third of the book is going to be VERY hard to put on film.
