I liked the idea of Aslan scratching his paw in the sand to rip of the scales on Eustace but I wish they had taken their time with it. I also wish we see the scales fall off or something instead of Aslan roaring and the glittery stuff surrounding Eustace. It had so much potential. They could have gotten it right if they spent more time on it. That's what saddens me the most.

The pacing *did* ruin the film. I practically got whiplash at how fast everything went.
I wrote a review, but it doesn't follow the site guidelines, so if you want to read it on my livejournal, it gives a fuller explanation on how the pacing affected my viewing of the film: http://lady-lirenel.livejournal.com/151965.html

My overview of VODT: http://lady-lirenel.livejournal.com/151965.html
The pacing was a huge issue with me, another 15 minutes of dialogue spread though out would have made this movie so much better
I think the pacing is the biggest problem with this movie. If it had been 30 minutes longer there could have been more emotional attachment to the characters and the different islands would have been developed more. Even if the Green Mist and Temptation! were still underdeveloped the extra time would have helped. Gael and Rhince needed more of a build up to their journey. The Lone Islands especially needed more time to develop not only the slave trade but also why Lord Bern was in prison, why the slavers were "sacrificing" ( ) people to the Green Mist, and why in the world the seven lords have magical swords.
When my sister and I were watching the movie this afternoon and we got to the point where they're sailing into the Mist it felt like only half the movie had gone by. I thought there must be another hour even though I knew there wasn't.
Another problem with the pacing is it causes the final scene in Narnia to drag on forever. Everything else went by super fast, but that scene just kept going and going. I didn't even care what was happening in the scene because I was so unemotionally attached to the characters.
icarus you have "hit the nail on the head" in your explanation
While I was watching the movie it seemed rushed and too little explanation of the storyline and each character...
While I enjoyed this movie very much, I do think it could have benefited from a few more minutes, as others have said- for screen shots and moments showing just how hard the voyage really was.
I guess we should have expected a more rushed film. Fox, in particular, has the reputation of chopping down running times in order to squeeze more showtimes into the day. But I didn't expect VDT to be a whole 35 minutes shorter than the previous film. That's a lot of chopping. Did it have to do with the decrease in budget? Maybe.
I'd definitely be interested in knowing how much was taken out of this film. Maybe, just maybe it could be sewn back together in some sort of extended release as you all have been suggesting. But with the box office numbers being very low for this one so far, I'm not sure Fox will invest that kind of time and money into one.
Mary Jane: You know, you're taller than you look.
Peter: I hunch.
Mary Jane: Don't.
I never expected the film to be this short. I mean under two hours is sort of ridiculous. I usually as a rule don't see films under two hours unless they are a horror movie.

I wonder how much was filmed that was cut. There might be a Director's Cut of the movie out there somewhere that shows a bit more of the rest of the story. On the other hand, there were certain things in VDT that made me feel like they were just setting up a sequel, so focusing on Eustace was the way they wanted to go.
My attention span and my bladder are eternally grateful for the shorter run time. The pacing in the previous two was way too slow- this one is way more dynamic.
^ I pity anyone who did have to go to the toilet during VDT - leave the cinema for more than 20 seconds and you would no doubt have missed several islands in the story.
I'm sorry, did I just get done watching the film, or a trailer for the film?
Hahah! Perhaps you are onto something, after all we did wonder if there was going to be a Super Trailer this time around...

Yes, Titanic and Chamber of Secrets were both torture for me to sit through. With all that water sloshing around. VDT was much kinder. I expect we may see what was cut out when the DVD arrives. At the rate things are going, I hope that is sooner rather than later.
I actually had to go to the bathroom as well. I held it knowing that if I went for a few minitues, I would miss 1/2 the movie (yes that is an exaggeration.)

Just ten minutes onto the beginning of the film would have slowed the pacing down enough. It flashed by so quickly- the Lone Islands in particular could have done with a little more on them I thought.
While it was still a wonderful movie, just a tiny amount of extra time could ahve explained the green mist so much better and gotten rid of the confusion I feel about it. I mean- *why* were they giving the mist slaves? And what exactly was the mist? Why were seven *Telmarine* lords wandering around with Old Narnian swords?

I agree that there was a lot that seemed like they were setting up Silver Chair. I really think the green mist is going to be continued and that the LotGK will be found to be behind it.
