[Closed] More revenue or better movie?

With Prince Caspian, we got a decent movie that could have been better, and a decent revenue that could have been better. A big revenue for Dawn Treader would mean the continuation of the franchise and more movies. However, the movie could be very unimpressive and many fans may lose hope of any great movies. On the other hand, if there is little turnout but the movie itself is critically acclaimed and well liked by fans, couldn't we say that this might be more satisfying? For the series to go out on a high note? As a fan what do you think is more important if only one is possible?

Okay, I didn't vote on this because I think that if the movie is really good, which is what I hope for, there would be no possible way for it to have bad revenue. However, if I must vote on this thread I would say good movie over good revenue. Honestly though, if they make the movie good enough how could it have bad revenue? If the movie is bad how could it make good revenue? On a second thought do you mean bad in our opinion (us who have read the books and don't want the to do drastic changes)? If they did allot of changes that "we" didn't like but the world liked it so it did good in the box office, would that be your definition of a bad movie? Then I could see the use of this thread.

I think that a great movie that brings a smaller revenue beats out a bad movie any day. I have to agree with Watziznehm that chances are a really good movie is going to bring in a lot of money (this isn't always the case, but I would have to say more often than not). As much as I don't want the Narnia films to end on VDT, I'd much prefer it being a great movie than just in it for the money.

Well i have already lost hope that they will make a good film after Prince Caspian, but since this is VotDT and i want them to get onto the good books like LB and HaHB, i will vote high revenue and and bad film.

i voted for great movie, small revenue. i would really want a good movie even if that became the last one than to have them make bad movies and continue.

I think making a great movie is more important than making a bunch of money. If it is a great movie, then years from now some producer will look back on the series and say, "That was fantastic! Why didn't they continue? How can I get the rights?" Whereas if it is a bad movie I don't think I would want to see the series continue. Yes, I want to see all of the books made into films, but they have to be good films. Narnia is not second-rate.

I didn't vote, because I don't think it's possible to have a big revenue without a fair movie.
It's possible to have a good movie with pathetic earnings, but all movies that made big money had a decent plot line, good enough characters, and a moral of some value.
If they stick close enough to the book but adapt what absolutely must be changed, the makers of VDT can make a good movie that may earn good money.

Great movie, small revenue. But I don't think there is any way that if VDT was fantastic, there wouldn't be a large revenue following. Simply in making a great movie, a substantial revenue will follow. Only if it wasn't popular with the non-narnian fans would it then earn a small outcome. But PC was fairly popular with the majority of people and got a fair turnout so I don't think we should be worried at all since it certainly looks as if VDT will be a wonderful movie. :)

I don't know. There are a lot of really bad films that people go see. I don't want to name any because people might like them, but it really surprises me the stuff people go and see. It really surprises me the stuff that makes a lot of money.

honestly I have to say that if this becomes the last movie, than at least people can veiw Narnia movies as a kind of trilogy.....(though I really hope they continue!)
But I hope that this movie is a very good one and that they can continue with the Narnia films!!!!!
we shall have to see.....

I would love to have a great movie, but to not have enough money for more movies??? I would be very sad if they don't continue the movies.

If only that were true! But I'm afraid it's not. "Transformers 2" was the highest grossing film of the year, and both critics and audiences HATED it. The quality of the film does not necessarily indicate how successful it will be.

As visual effects have improved over the past decade, I've heard many directors say again and again "Visual effects won't cut it. People still want good stories and characters." It's almost become a cliche. But movies like Transformers 2 have proved those directors wrong. Throw a bunch of VFX at the screen, and put out a cool trailer, and you've got a hit. :( Sad, but true.

I'm really confused....is "box office earnings" the same as revenue? Because PC's box office earnings were a lot LOWER than LWW's....so if that were true, wouldn't a good close-to-the-book movie make better revenue?

Yes, I have read the previous comments, but I'm still confused. :-

I totally don't believe that there is a correlation between faithfulness to the book and box office earnings. That's just silly. PC's box office was disappointing for a number of reasons. Bad timing for release, weaker source material (from a cinematic perspective), poor marketing. LWW performed very well at the box office for a number of reasons. Good timing for release, recognizable title, brilliant marketing. (Besides, I believe that PC was in some ways more faithful to the essence than LWW was, but that's for another thread)

I would MUCH rather see a good/faithful VDT movie that failed at the box office than a bad/unfaithful VDT movie that did well at the box office.

If it's a bad movie and not faithful to the essence of the book, I WANT the movie to fail at the box office and WANT the franchise to die. Why would I want them to make bad adaptations? And why would I want bad adaptations to be successful?

I really don't care as much if this is a bad movie and it gets a big revenue. Why?

BECAUSE I WANT THEM TO MAKE THE SILVER CHAIR!!!!!! THE BEST BOOK IN THE SERIES!!!! After the Silver Chair, I'll be less worried about the survival of the series. Of course though, that would mean I would want the Silver Chair to be a very good movie.
