I was wondering what people think of the adding of Minotaurs, Fauns, a Dwarf and a Satyr to the Dawn Treader crew.
I like it and I think it will make the story a bit more interesting and add some diversity since it is Narnia after all. And not to mention some humor
There was a time when this fact greatly bothered me - way back in March 2008 when we first heard about it. I was pretty angry about it really. But in all honesty, its been so long, and so many other more important things have come to the fore, that it really doesn't bother me in any way anymore.
In fact, from what i've seen so far i'd go as far to say that i actually rather like the addition now. They've still kept it as a predominately human crew, and the handful of creatures they do have helps add a certain Narnian quality to proceedings.
Stupid internet ate my post again. I really like this change because as I was reading the book, it was hard for me to imagine the DT without any Narnian creatures besides Reepicheep. I'm glad though that they made sure that there were more humans than creatures on the boat though because it at least keeps it some what close to the book. Had they added any more or any fewer I would not have been happy, but I think they struck the perfect balance.

I was never really bothered by the idea, although I wondered how practical it would be to have minotaurs on the ship. Someone mentioned a while back that it would be hard for them to keep their balance on the Dawn Treader because of their hooves. Other than that, I don't have a problem with it. I think it's very Narnian and will help add some new aspects to the movie.

I think its pretty cool to have them on....there is nothing really we can do about that. Its fine with me and cant wait to see it!
"We have nothing if not belief"
The presence of the minotaurs was the only thing that bothered me, but that has more to do with the fact that they're evil and should never have been added to the good Narnians list.
I don't mind having creatures on board. It'll be pretty cool visually; what I'm worried about is the practicality of having, say, Minotaurs on board (what and how much they would eat, etc). But I do like the idea of seeing them on the Dawn Treader.
I actually like that the minotaurs became good. It shows that anyone, no matter what background they come from, is still capable of changing their evil ways.

I agree with Josh, weren't satyrs (or maybe it was fauns) also evil in grrek mythology? I don't think it counts in Narnia, there they are just creatures (actually I'm not even sure that Lewis included any minotaurs in the books, so it's not like he said "all Narnian Minotaurs are evil") Kind of like how not all wolves were evil, or how not all giants were evil... I could go on, but I'll refrain. There's also a spiritual lesson here, but its better suited for the Christianity threads...

wolfloversk, I don't think fauns/satyrs were evil in Greek myths. They were mostly neutral, if I remember correctly.
There is a Minotaur in the WW's army in the book
I love the addition of creatures on the Dawn Treader! It just feels so much more like Narnia to me than if it were a purely human crew.
"I'm a beast I am, and a Badger what's more. We don't change. We hold on. I say great good will come of it... And we beasts remember, even if Dwarfs forget, that Narnia was never right except when a son of Adam was King." -Trufflehunter
Yes, the minotaurs were a part of Jadis' army in Book!LWW and it is the only time they are mentioned. I wonder how many movies before they decide to inflict a good hag on us?
Minotaur are much easier to except than hags, because Hag are hideous while minotaurs aren't especially bad looking.
Also hags practice sorcery, something Lewis wasnt supportive of. Minotaurs are just wild beasts who have nothing distictivly "evil" about them.
