So I watched the Blu-Ray of VDT tonight (it was awesome!) and I was kind of surprised by this one shot. It appears to be the exact same on the Digital Copy. Okay, at Aslan's Country we see a shot of the shadows of Caspian, Lucy, Edmund, Eustace and Reepicheep and the camera then moves to reveal Aslan's shadow behind them.
What's with the shadow not being attached to anything? In theaters the top and bottom of the movie were cut of, so there wasn't any issue here. You could only see a shadow. Now the home-video release has the full shadow, and we don't see any lion-paws "attached" to the shadow where they should be? I hope this makes sense. Watch the shot, and you'll understand.
It's odd...
I caught that too. Weird...
I see what you mean. The shot's a touch wider than widescreen standard. I'm betting they didn't realize it, so it's a slight flick flub. It's a bit weird looking. The floating shadow...
Haha, I noticed that too, lol. Yeah I guess they didn't realize it.

I thought the exact same thing upon seeing it. But I almost thought that maybe it was meant to be there. I mean, Aslan obviously appeared out of nowhere, as he was not see seconds prior to that, and only in the next shot, Eustace says "Aslan", so i assumed that maybe only Aslan's shadow appeared before his body took form? I dont know, just a thought..

I think it was just a goof also, but we could justify it by saying that even a mystical invisible lion has a shadow due to his omnipotence.. (however you spell it.. hehe).

I saw it too! That's a neat idea CorazonBandido55... unfortunately this does establish that the Lamb to Lion theory was incorrect.

glumPuddle, I would be perfectly happy to, except Photobucket has been doing maintence and as a result I haven't been able to use my account for three days (Which led to a whole other problem that I will not elaborate on...)
However if it comes back up soon, and no one else posts a screen shot I will be happy to

Don't worry wolfloversk, I got it! Here you go glumPuddle:
I too am starting to think that this was intentionally done. It just shows that Aslan is present but he's not visible right away (thinking of Prince Caspian, the book now, where the Pevensies slowly start seeing Aslan's shadow). I think it's sort of like a fore-shadowing that "Aslan is there too", if that makes sense.
Actually, I kind of start liking this whole thing now
Ah, I made mention of this over in the "did you notice" thread, what I did not notice was that this scene has a thread of its own.
My thought is that it's an unfinished scene that was revealed due to the aspect ratio change. Regardless of human intent, the hidden meaning is still there for those that want to see it that way, myself included.

Thanks for the cap!
If it was intentional, why would they crop it out for the theatrical version? Seems much more likely that they never intended for the top part of the shot to be seen. A shadow is cheap. CG lion feet are expensive. I think this must be a goof.
They goofed somewhere. The question is where. There are two possibilities:
1. They goofed up when cropping it for theaters.
2. They goofed up when they uncropped it for DVD.
In the PC book, the characters have a hard time seeing Aslan because they have been relying on their own strenghts rather than Aslan's. Only when they give up trying to solve their own problems are they able to succeed....
If the characters in the VDT movie were having a hard time seeing Aslan, it would make sense. Because for the entire movie, they have been learning to rely on their own strengths to defeat this evil mist that wants to tempt them for some reason. "You must defeat the darkness inside yourselves." Seconds after the shadow reveal, Aslan even says "YOU have done well." This is a far cry from the books, where it is Aslan who must defeat the darkness inside them. For this reason, I like the DVD version. It makes more sense.
glumPuddle: I think it's meant to be that way.
IMO, think that it's just the way they chose to do the transition. when Caspian, Lucy, Edmund, Eustace, and Reepicheep first come on the beach, they are alone. but then Aslan is suddenly there. so they have the shadow appear first, alone. then they have Aslan be there.
I think it's a cool effect!

It made more sense in theaters because the end of the shadow where apparently Aslan wasn't put in was cut off. Here, it looks really weird. Aslan did turn invisible in the book, but everything became visible again once Lucy recited the spell. And unless it is possible, how can a truly invisible person cast a shadow? I guess Bilbo could, though...
Either they didn't care about it, forgot to add Aslan's feet in, or didn't realize that DVD version would be done in a different format. I did laugh a lot at that picture, though.
