I don't recall hearing any particular news either way about the accent. I know alot of us had theorised in the past that they may do away with it, particularly back when the castings for Lord Rhoop, Lord Bern and Lord Drinian were announced, all with very un-Telmarine looking actors in the roles. But i don't think they've ever said anything specific about the accent, at least not that i'm aware of.
I think you're right; I looked through the news stories and old threads and was unable to find anything on Caspian's Accent. My mistake.

I have very mixed feelings on the Telmarine accent, let alone Caspian's version of it. First of all, it was not even remotely consistent in Prince Caspian. There was Miraz and Glozelle's version, Sopespian's version, Prunaprismia's version, and Caspian's version... every single one was different. And quite frankly, it drove me bonkers because they were SUPPOSED to be the same.
Caspian's accent (and NO offense to Ben Barnes whatsoever) has made for hours of teasing in my house due to the fact it seemed to be based on Inigo Montoya from The Princess Bride (I know that's what he used to practice at any rate).
On the other hand, I love consistency and I'm a bit bugged about Reep's voice changing.
So... change it or listen to the Inigo Montoya accent throughout another movie? I guess if it was up to me, I'd tone it back, but still keep a Spanish twist to the accent.
I think I'm of the "I don't care" group. Consistency would be good, but if they choose to modify it, I'd say make sure the Spanish twist stays in there. Anything else can probably be written off to time spent interacting with the Narnians.
If they ditch it, I will be ecstatic. I absolutely loathed Caspian's accent which seemed borderline parody of a Spanish accent.
^^ aw.....I am sorry you feel this way Bookey!
I thought it was awesome!

As someone who has a thick accent of the nationality the Telmarines were made to be in the PC movie, I say KEEP IT!
Caspian's accent can be lessened a bit, since he is no longer surrounded by as many Telmarines. I know he is over a certain age, but accent rules in Narnia may be different than those in other places. His accent may have blended with the local Narnian speech- now that is likelier to happen.
"is sick of people asking where she's from and NOT taking Florida as a final answer"
I really never thought about this. Yeah, Ben Barnes was a bit Indigo, but it never bothered me. I think I just accepted it without question, it just makes sense to me.
I'm sure they'll keep it - I see absolutely no reason why they wouldn't. A watered down version would be OK. Perhaps it would even be better to highlight the Narnia/Telmarine integration. I imagine people of the Lone Island, etc, could have different accents if they'd been out of contact for a while. I can't actually remember if the Lone Island people are Narnian or Telmerine. Oh - hang about, I answered by own question there. The only Narnian 'people' are the Pevensies' & Co. Ssshhh . . it's been a while since I Narniafied myself.

True, but people tend to lose accents a bit when mixing with others of a different background. In the Lone Islands which has been separated for some time from Narnia, and which barely knew that Miraz had taken over the Narnian throne, they have Lord Bern, and the other 6 lords have passed on eastwards.
Australian actors can be made up to look more Spanish/Mediterranean, if necessary. Their bio pics on IMDb are based on past roles they played on TV etc. But they definitely won't have British accents. Believe me. Ben Barnes, if he can't master a Mediterranean accent, is going to find mastering an Australian accent even harder.
I'm sure that Aussie actors, like kiwi actors, are trained in the use of accents.
Don't forget "Ash", the kiwi boy who played "geeky boy" in PC, nor the kiwi actress who played Mrs Pevensie - her natural accent when interviewed was very kiwi.
There, shining in the sunrise, larger than they had seen him before, shaking his mane (for it had apparently grown again) stood Aslan himself.
"...when a willing victim who had committed no treachery was killed in a traitor's stead, the Table would crack and Death itself would start working backwards."
Ben Barnes, if he can't master a Mediterranean accent, is going to find mastering an Australian accent even harder.
never say never! if Elijah Wood, American that he is, can master a British accent that well for LOTR, Ben can do anything!
and it's like what coracle said about Ash Jones!

Elijah Woods had a British accent? I didn't know there was a such thing.
I'm wondering about RD's accent. If she might use her Australian accent or come up with something novelty. I'm not worried about Caspian's accent. It didn't bother me in PC.

I would argue that Elijah Wood is a much better and more experienced actor than Ben Barnes, and just because he was able to master an accent that wasn't his natural one doesn't mean everyone can. There are excellent actors who really struggle with pulling off other accents, and others who can pull them off flawlessly.
I don't mind Ben's Spanish accent, although it definitely seemed forced and artificial at times in PC, because it would have been very strange for him to keep his natural accent while all the other Telmarines had Spanish accents.
I'm not expected any better from Barnes, but I would rather him keep the "Telmarine" accent than revert to his natural one.
The thing with professional actors bkey since Ben does come from the professional theatre already knows how to prepare himself for those things. It doesn't matter how you've experienced something longer then anyone else.
Elijah prepared his accent for LOTR and Ben prepared his accent for PC. It's what actors do if they want to be any good and different from themselves.

I mean, I realize that actors have to train and prepare for their roles, whether it be getting into better shape, getting out of shape, working on a different accent, etc. That's all part of acting.
What I was trying to say was that regardless of an actor's skill level, accents are something that can be hard for an actor, or anyone for that matter, to pull off.
For example, I would consider Robert Downey, Jr. to be an excellent American actor, yet many people criticized his British accent in Sherlock Holmes. Gary Oldman, from the UK, is another superb actor. However, in The Dark Knight you can still hear his natural accent come through at times, even though he is playing an American character.
Sam Worthington is another actor who has a hard time mastering accents. In Avatar, Clash of the Titans, and Terminator Salvation his Australian accent still shines through regardless of the ethnicity of the character he is playing on the screen. He is someone, like Ben Barnes, that I would consider a decent, but not outstanding actor.
I do think however, and this is my opinion, that the more experienced an actor is, especially at using different accents, the easier it is, and the more realistic it sounds on screen. Although this is obviously not always the case, as I tried to demonstrate with my examples of Downey Jr. and Oldman.
