Umm. We've done both (and Christmas Eve morning due to work schedules), but this year we're mostly doing it Christmas evening, but we did a couple last night, so: Opening on Christmas Eve.

Depends on blink rate, but over all I'm going with non-blinking to avoid headaches 
That being said I do prefer the ones that slowly change colors, which I guess is a form of blinking.

Tennis shoes for going out and about. But I like flip flops when running outside quickly during the summer or about the house.

... Blue. I like green better when it's paired with other colors (red, pink), but if we're talking colors on their own, then blue wins.
