Closed toe shoes, as jandals or thongs (Australian term for flip flops) place stress on the gaps between toes, don't support ankles and do little to protect one's feet against injury, except from heat or bindi eyes.

Birds singing, unless they are Australian ravens or currawongs, whose mating calls sound like gaggles of great aunts getting disgusted over gossip in the news, or one's own behaviour. 
Besides, I don't know what spring peepers are.
