Hopes for restitution of any damage done may help people to forgive a wrong.
I think that there can only be true forgiveness and reconciliation when both parties come together, admit and apologize for any wrongdoings, and earnestly seek to amend it.
Justice can also be served when both parties seek to remedy any wrongdoing.
