Besides, Ithilwen might die from triumph if I ever became a minion.
Aww, that's so sweet of you to take my health into consideration!
You know I couldn't let that go without saying something.
Anyway, Happy New Year's, everyone! This is my first Square post in 2011.
So what does everyone hope/expect for the new year?
~Riella
Hmm... not sure I would like that. I've always pictured them as children. Although, if they were older, that would give me a chance at auditioning as Polly... Meh, but they'll probably pick someone from England anyway, just like the "Jill Pole" article said.
I hope they give us Americans a try! (And Aussie's, and...and...)
I so want to hear you do that! Do you mean just the accent, or the voice as well? Haha, I'm always copying the British accent Smeagol has in front of my mom, and then she tries to do it too. I can't really do the voice though. Well... I can do something that's kinda like it, but not quite. It's actually more like a "Stitch" voice.
Haha, believe it or not, our dog has a voice (we make up voices for our animals, quite strange, I know! ) almost like Smeagol's but higher in pitch. It's at the back of my throat and I lower it for Smeagol's, so sometimes I sound like the voice we made for our dog!
I mean like I try to do the parts where Gollom/Smeagol talk after the transformation. Like "Oh yes we could!" and stuff like that. I wish I could let you hear it somehow! Sometimes it's horrid, other times I nail it! My bro and mom thinks it's great when I nail it. I think it sounds awesome sometimes!! And I sorta scare myself, the other night I was crazy (must have had too much sugar! lol) and was running around doing gollum/smeagol and pretending I wanted to eat my cat!
Plus I like to scare my mom with "They are young, they are tender, they are nice! Eat them, eat them!!" when I mess w/ her neck. She gets so creeped out, it's so much fun!
*ducks out of square w/ paper bag on head*
I'm really not crazy!!...I think...

Hello everyone!! Wow - just a day, and I already have more than a page of catchup! Fun!
I'm doing great! The holidays were really lovely and restful, and I'm excited about the new year! How are you?
That's just about exactly what I'd say - it was fun just sitting around and being lazy during the holidays, much more fun than always doing things. so I'm doing great. It is exciting that 2011 is here!!
I'm great, and you? I love acting, Narnia (obviously), Lord of the Rings, writing stories (which I never finish ), reading the Narnia books...uh...doing my gollum voice...(I know, I'm weird! )
I'm doing great, thanks! That's awesome! Do you like the LoTR books or movies, or both? I love love the books, and I really want to watch the movies.
And exactly the same as me - I love writing stories, but I never finish them. That's funny.
Yes, actually. My uncle, aunt, and cousin are coming over and we'll probably play games, eat snacks, and watch a movie (provided we can find one that everyone likes - that's proving to be a problem). What are you doing?
That sounds really super fun!! Me and my family and friends went bowling (I sucked!!), and then we watched movies, tooted horns, and partied. It was really fun.
Yes, we shall withhold ourselves. I actually am still recovering from my writing frenzy, so I don't feel like attempting something like that again for a good long while. It was fun, but writing 5k+ every day can get tiresome after a while.
Did you have a plot this previous NaNo, or did you just wing it? (I love winging it, most of the time.)
I agree - it certainly took a lot of work, so I don't want to do it again immediately.
No, since I started the day after NaNo started, I had no plot, except one that Flambeau told me to use. It was really hard that way. Next time I definitely want a plot.

Hi Elanor!
I love the movies and never finished reading FotR, but I have to someday! (I just found it hard to read a big book like that w/ so many...er...parts that were not so cinematic... ) But yeah, I love in the book how Pippin sings his bath song! Pippin is so funny!!!
I'm thinking about writing again soon...I try to do Nano but...never get to 50,000 words. Maybe this year?
So whatcha up to right now, Elanor?

HAPPY NEW YEAR SQUAREONIONS!!!
How was your Christmas? Doing anything for new years? I think we're going bowling tonight with friends, and then we'll probably watch a movie and welcome in the new year.
My Christmas was fantastic, thank you for asking! Lots of good times with family and friends. And good food, of course. How was yours? Hope you had fun hanging out with your friends for New Years! I hung out with friends too - I was invited over to a friend's house along with a bunch of others from my school's drama club (which is generally the group of people I hang out with), and we played games, talked, and blew noisemakers at each other at midnight. Fun times!
I'd fall over if I was cast as Jill! I adore acting and can do a pretty mean Smeagol/Gollum accent, if I do day so myself.
I love doing Gollum accents! Just the other night, my family and I were playing UNO (the card game) and we all started randomly talking Gollum-like to each other...my family tends to be random. But it was awesome!
Mmmm... those chocolate chip cookies were amazing! And heeeere are some for you!
Ahh! Mmmm...yum! Thankies! I looove virtual cookies!
I want an invisible sword...
Me too! And those awesome bags/storage things that they have. Forgot what they're called. So do you have any other favorite books/series?
Oooh! I, too, love ice skating! Perhaps if the Square has a water hose, we can leave it running some cold night and have a skating rink to skate on in the morning!
Oooh perfect! Now we just need some ice skates and some delicious hot chocolate to drink when we're done skating! (And if there is a Pixar club, I dub thee "Official Snack-Bringer"! )
On the menu tonight is ice cream! Want some? *offers a bowl to Rose and the other Square Onions*
*gladly accepts that ice cream* Ooh, 'tis chocolate fudge brownie, my favorite! You certainly like giving out food, don't you?
*waves to Atamar*
Wow I got left in the dust (3 pgs of unread posts! ) well I suppose I'll just have to wave to everyone. *waves*
*returns the wave*
I write Young Adult Fantasy too! What a coincidence! (But then maybe it isn't such a coincidence considering we are both on a website for a fantasy series, lol)
Yay! That's awesome! Yeah, I was just thinking about how neat and interesting it was that so many NWers are writers too, but yeah it makes sense. No complaints here - I love talking about writing! I could go on for hours! So the more writer friends, the better!
Oh, and thanks for the tip about the BBC Narnia movies - I'll have to look and see if I can find them.
*waves back to ValiantArcher*
Alright, well, I guess that's it! Good mortereve, everyone!

Mortereve to all! *bows to all*
First thing I have to say......I have been waiting for a day and a half to day this. *takes a deep breath*.....*clears throat*
Ladies and Gentlemen, it has been brought to my attention that our very own Lyzinger is very.....ok whatever no more thinking about what I'm going to say, and how I'm going to word it. What I'm trying to say is that Lyz was right about The King's Speech. It is a terrific movie. Probably one of my favorites right now. It was so well done, and I'm hoping to see it again with my sister next week if I can talk her into it that is.
And with that I am off. I'll try to make a catchup post sometime soon.
"Whenever you feel like criticizing any one," he told me, "just remember that all the people in this world haven't had the advantages that you've had.”
I think I'm going to put a Cora in the book I might write next month. Also a Dot whom they call Dotty.
) I've always liked the name Dotty as well. I think old-fashioned names are like a breath of fresh air sometimes, as long as it isn't something too old-fashioned like Howard or Stirling or Gulliver or Gertrude.
Ooh, that's fun Bella. We painted our house over the summer, but it was just cream color everywhere with no design, so it wasn't nearly as fun. And our house was a tad bigger than your bathroom. (Or I would hope.)
That sounds like a neat ocean pattern! I'm sure C.S. will feel right at home with painting all of those little creatures, eh? I like almost every form of art there is except painting. I've never been able to master that. The paint always goes everywhere I don't want it to.
I should probably watch Cars again. I've watched it a couple times over the past three years or so. I probably never gave it much of a chance to grow on me. I did enjoy it, just not as much as the other movies I happened to be watching at the time. *will be sure to check out Ratatouille as soon as possible*
I've been doing fairly well, thank you! I came down with the flu a few days ago, so I'm trying to get rid of it before school. Today is my last day to sleep nonstop - I'll make the most of it.
What about you? Have you been up to anything neat besides painting the bathroom? What books are you reading?
Good luck with the Jill Pole auditions, Lucy of Narnia! That would be a neat opportunity. I don't think I'm ambitious enough, myself, even if I was any good at acting. Have you participated in any plays/dramas in the past?
*carefully avoids all conversation concerning Justin Bieber...*
BUT, I could never forget that Rose gets a lovely rosy shade for her replies!
There then. I suppose that makes up for the cheat sheet. (Oh ugh: first I typed out cheet sheat, then cheet sheet, then cheat sheat, and THEN cheat sheet... The ominous signs of aging are beginning to appear.)
I'll look forward to the Squiggles' report in the meantime, then... while you are thinking.
What did you think of Deathly Hallows, Ti? I wanted to go see it but my parents refused to take me.
Teehee about you beating your brothers up.
Yes, AC, I have watched the rest of Harry Potter already. I'm sure I'll be able to see Deathly Hallows as soon as it comes out on DVD, though that isn't half as fun as seeing it in the theater. Ah well. I don't really care how I watch it, as long as I get to!
*laughs, because this sounds so very much like herself*
Hehe. At one time, my mom pointed out how unproductive I was being. I pondered that for maybe a minute or so before heading back to bed. Screw productiveness! It's BREAK.
Ha, I like that! Her Majesty Rose Louise the First? I think that takes the cake as far as nicknames go.
Well then, "The Other Rose" you are. *nods approvingly*
I wish I could remember the whole thing -- I'm not quite sure what Rose was going for with that, probably something long and pompous/important-sounding. I think she got it down pat!
Well, why don't you come see us, then?
I'll start walking.
The PostReply button only shows the posts from the previous page, I think. For me, at least, I have to go back on a separate webpage and go through the pages that won't show up in order to quote them in my post.
Yeah, I start school on Monday too. I don't really know what to think of that. One part of me thinks I've been on break for forever, while the other part is mad that I didn't get more productive stuff done (*cough* editingmybookandgettingaheadstartonmymidterm *cough*). And yes, we have math homework! It should be a crime! But apparently my math teacher thinks it's a good idea.
;)) I basically got to the point where I didn't care if I was being productive or not. Sleeping was enough work for me.
I don't think I like your math teacher! What a tragedy. Did she give you enough homework for the entire break? Mine gave me homework during Thanksgiving break, but it was only a couple of assignments so it wasn't too bad. And having to do school over Thanksgiving is a lot better than doing it over Christmas.
I'm still half surprised that it is 2011, Fireflower. I was so confused - I thought New Years was last night, not the previous. I guess that just shows how I've stayed so up to date during break.
You got snow? Yay! We were supposed to have a snow storm today, but, as it's forty degrees and sunny outside, I doubt that will be happening anytime soon.
I'm thinking Christmas went by too fast as well. It just dawned on me that school starts tomorrow. I was almost looking forward to it, and then I had to get up at 6:15 earlier this week for an orthodontist appointment. It made me change my mind. I can't imagine how I'll pull that off tomorrow!
Ata! It's great to see you in here.
I was wanting to read LotR, Ithilwen, but our library has always had them checked out. (And I'm too lazy to go find them elsewhere.) Oh? You're reading Jane Eyre as well? What do you think of it?
Yes, I found that extremely disappointing. Lucy was my favorite character in the last movies (especially LWW, of course!), but I didn't like her at all in VotD. She was so different, and her acting seemed... I don't know... fake, almost.
You didn't like Reepicheep? Aw. I liked him a lot better in VotD than I did in PC.
Oh wow. Thirties in California? Isn't that rather unusual? I'm in Michigan, so the cold, gray weather isn't a surprise at all.
Hmm. I have a quick question. Did you used to be Eustace + Jill? Or am I just imagining and remembering weird things. EDIT: I see you answered this in another post. Nevermind.

Good Mortereve everyone! And Happy New Year!
I should be doing my homework, but I decided I had better catchup before even more pages flew by without me on board. So, how is everybody? My interim class ends Thursday, so I'm happy about that. But the spring semester starts the 18 so I'm not going to get much of a break. Oh, the things I do to get an education!

You mean you're not conceited?
Hey, congrats! I sort of wish our finals were before Christmas break instead of after...

On a side note, how are you doing? I've missed you!
Sure you can come visit! Just signal Scotty! I am doing well. My interim class is taking up almost all of my time, and I had a cold last week, but I'm better. Our kitchen remodeling project is finally done so we're having Christmas dinner today. How are you?

Ithilwen still harbors the belief that someday I'll become one of the Spoiled Rotten and thus calls me Villain-to-Be, but don't pay attention to her. She's delusional.
*wonders if she should stick up for her fellow minion or not*
I think I'm going to put a Cora in the book I might write next month. Also a Dot whom they call Dotty.
Really? I feel special. *waves back*
Aww, no one likes Wall-e? Admittedly, I haven't seen too many Pixar movies, if I think about it, but they always seem to do a fantastic job. There's a Monsters Inc. 2? Didn't know.
I like Wall-E! I do admit that it's not the best Pixar movie ever, but I really like it. Monsters 2 is supposed to come out in......2012? 2013? I think it's the one after Cars 2 but I'm not positive.
*is also a fan of the Errol Flynn Robin Hood*
*skims the last few pages* Well, that appears to be everything. I actually did a catchup post! Of course it will probably be a ridiculously long time before I do another one........anyhow, bye all!
*goes off to listen to the latest podcast*
I had an awesome idea for a post, based on There's a Monster at the End of the Book but I think it would end up being a very conceited sort of post. So I'm not going to do it. Because I forgot how exactly it was supposed to work.
However, I do remember that I was going to do a post with a preponderance of 'M' words. Like much, and muchness and marvelous and Mel. Hmmmm. And miming.
*LL also resists a sudden urge to become a rhyming mime*
that is the short version of my little mime act

Ti'ana! How delightful to see you again!
*carries on, as directed by lys* Though, I notice you're not going to lend me your VotDT-movie-based-on-good-script... *puts King's Speech on her list of movies to see someday. The trailer makes it look excellent. (Oh, and I finally (after what, three years?) have the '95 Persuasion. )
*waves to Mel*! How are you doing? I've missed talking to you!
If I were a cat... well... I'd be doing about the same as I'm doing. (Translation: cats eat and sleep and are happy. ) How about yourself? Are you surviving the winter? Say hi to C. S. for me.
I had an excellent Christmas, Mountie. Present wise, I got a few things that I really wanted (book and soundtracks and money to buy a few more books and a movie...) Family wise, I got to spend time with all my family, which I haven't done in a while which was great. How was your Christmas?
(I've also read his The Grey Cloak, which I enjoyed, but Destined, who is less gullible than I am found more fault with.)
Oooh, I think I shall start with that one. (Assuming I can find it... Which I did!) It'll be like a test... am I more like DTR or Betsie?
*puts a ballgown on her list of to-do projects in anticipation of an invitation*
*points out for ~LL~'s edification that Mel is fonder of Miss Marple than Hercule Poirot, but Mel has not read any Tommy and Tuppence though she has been told that she would like them* I am skeptical on that point, however, because I have been decidedly unimpressed by the 'best' Agatha Christies. So far my favourites have been At Bertram's Hotel and A Pocket Full of Rye.
The Errol Flynn/de Havilland Robin Hood is the BEST!!
Indeed! Though, the Douglas Fairbanks silent film has a great deal to recommend it as well. (And I believe there is one actor who manages to be in the Douglas Fairbanks, Errol Flynn, and the one that is narrated by Alan-a-Dale and has Queen Elanor in it but which I cannot remember anything else about.)
*avoids the snowball catapult trap set in place by a sneaky dryad* *is congratulating herself on her cleverness when a snowball catches her anyway* Do I hear a distinct "HA!" from somewhere?
Yes, it was rather unfair of me to include a minor character in the avatar.
I thought he bore a striking resemblance to Johnny Lee Miller and was assuming it was an Emma avatar...
Ata! How delightful to see you too!
*spots her name in the list of Square Onions and waves back to Valia* Lists like that remind me of the wallpaper flambeau did awhile back...
*waves to Dot*
*ends her post with a number of 'm' words for your perusal* Minion. Melon. Not to be confused with mellon which is elvish for friend. Mighty. Moriarty. Mindful. Measure. Mnemonic. Maeglin. Maehdros. Maglor. Musty. Misty. And Mellifluous and melody.

Good luck with the Jill Pole auditions, Lucy of Narnia! That would be a neat opportunity. I don't think I'm ambitious enough, myself, even if I was any good at acting. Have you participated in any plays/dramas in the past?
Thank you! Um, I was in a school play where I had one line (we had to 'try out'), I was in a church play where I had a nice little conversation piece (there weren't many kids so we all got a part), and uh...that's as official as it gets, but I practice my Jill Pole lines a lot lately. Plus I'm making a SC trailer about Jill, starring- your truly!
*waves to Lucy of Narnia* My goodness! Another new face (avatar?) in the Square! Hello!

Mortereve all! Well, over the weekend we had a series of storms to move through Archenland and now the temp has dropped about 20 degrees. *needs a shivering emoticon* Oh well, it was feeling unseasonably warm for a while there....
*I suppose this means I must go back to being a living room heater, eh?*
Possibly....
*Lovely....*
*The Prince and Dragon take their seats at the fountain*
Well, time to catch-up on three pages!
---------------------------------------------
@ Rose. Yep, we (Vern and I) finally persuaded the Royal Couple into watching it. We've watched it three times as a family.... mostly thanks to me. Thankfully they have not minded and have greatly enjoyed the film. We now quote it around the house.
Ah yes, the dreaded school.... I have one more week off myself. My classes start up on 10th. I hope your first day back goes simply splendidly!
@ Betsie. *Cor and Vern return the cheerful wave* Ello there! Tis been awhile we since have spoken. I trust all is well with you and yours?
@ Bella. Quite welcome, miss! We have been doing very well. Had a nice quite New Years eve and day as well as a pleasant Sunday spent with my cousins.
*begins humming snatches of the How to Train Your Dragon score*
@ Lys. Oh dear! Glad you re-read it properly. That would have been... awkward to say the least.
Huh, not familiar with that group so I can't say whether you would like the new Clash score or not. It's just generic Hans Zimmer-ish action music. Nothing very spectacular, especially compared to the original.
Very glad you like it! The Love theme is quite beautiful, is it not? I'm not sure which page it's on, but I'll try resurrecting it this coming week. I'm vaguely familiar with both of those scores, though I mostly know Poledouris from his action music of the 80's and early 90's.
@ LL. Heh, well, that aspect did not bother us too much. Besides, it was a family film so you couldn't have the dragons acting like Godzilla or a T-rex or something of the like.
*Also that would have been even more wrong. Though the T-Rex parallel does befit certain dragons....*
Thanks! I was quite proud of them myself. Ah, sounds like very sane advice from an insane mind from a wise woman. I've already ordered my textbooks for the upcoming semester.... I hate paying $300 and something for books. Oh well, I least my pell grant is paying for them.
@ Rose Tree Dryad. I'm afraid I have not had the chance to speak to you yet and welcome you to the Square, so.... Welcome to the Square, miss Dryad! *bows and tips hat* My name is Cor and this is my dragon, Vern.
*Tis a pleasure to meet you, miss! *
Is there a preferred nickname you would like to be called?
@ Mounty. No fear, it's happened to me before as well.
*That is probably the wisest decision. I have tried teaching Cor a few words in Dragon, but he can barely pronounce his own name.... *
Not that I can barely pronounce my own name in regular human speech, mind you!
Yeah, unfortunately after seeing the film a second time last week it just re-enforced to me all of it's faults. *sigh* Still fun, but far short of what it should have been.
*uber skimming*
@ Ithilwen. Have you seen the liner note booklet to the LotR Complete Recordings? The Music of the Lord of the Rings book is basically the liner notes for all three CR in book form. Doug Adams goes through all the themes from the trilogy and then gives a track-by-track breakdown of each score (with the information referring to the CR CD's).
For a LotR/film score fan like myself, it's a treasure.
@ Dot. Yes, it went quite splendidly. Thanks!
------------------------------------------------------
O.K, I think this is enough for one post. I'm afraid we must be off. I hope everyone has a wonderful night and a good Monday, especially for those starting back to school!

Mortereve all! The Fair Tiana, Valiant Archer, The Epic One, Miss Rosario, Dearest Johobbit, Stargazer and all of the Square Onions .... Happy New Year! If I have not named specifically, fear not! You are all in my thoughts. I hope everyone is having a marvelous time for 2011.
I have been reading a lot of local history lately: Voyage of the Dawn Treader and, currently, The Silver Chair. Most enjoyable. Alas, the movie was not as enjoyable as the book. Fun enough, but still....
The Royal Narrator has finally been replaced with a most capable narrator thanks to the Dwarves Employment Service. Vern and Prince Cor were very helpful with the interviewing process or I would never have gotten through it. Several applicants were immediately weeded out. The moment they saw Vern, they ran. Probably an allergy to dragons.
Alas, I must go now. All the talk earlier about cookies has made me terribly hungry....

So who all in here is a LotR fan? And knows that Frodo is the best hero ever and that Pippin rocks? (Riella, that last one at least'd be you. )
So, can I have a try at that chocolate tree? Alas, Lady Amalthea, you didst not remove all of the chocolate, and the poor tree's branches doth droop with the heavy weight of that delicious, supremely sweet chocolate. How rich it tasteth to my lips and how...okay, enough of this, may I? And please pass the milk!
*leaves square, wishing for snow and muttering in Gollum-ese, then quickly returning to say*

I mean like I try to do the parts where Gollom/Smeagol talk after the transformation. Like "Oh yes we could!" and stuff like that. I wish I could let you hear it somehow!
Haha, I've tried copying that same line at times! You should totally make a vid of yourself doing it and put it on Youtube or something. That would be so cool to see.
Just the other night, my family and I were playing UNO (the card game) and we all started randomly talking Gollum-like to each other...my family tends to be random. But it was awesome!
Wow. All of your family was copying it? Now that would be an interesting sight to see. (In a good way)
Oh? You're reading Jane Eyre as well? What do you think of it?
I love it! It always inspires me in my own writings whenever I read a chapter or two. A great way to fight writer's block!
Oh wow. Thirties in California? Isn't that rather unusual? I'm in Michigan, so the cold, gray weather isn't a surprise at all.
Umm... I don't think it's unusual for the winter... At least, not where I am in Cali. I don't live in SoCal where it's a bit hotter. I'm in Central Cali. And it gets down to the 20s in wintertime.
@ Ithilwen. Have you seen the liner note booklet to the LotR Complete Recordings? The Music of the Lord of the Rings book is basically the liner notes for all three CR in book form. Yes, Pippin does certainly rock! I miss my Pippin sig... but it was time for a change... *sniff* Next time I might have to make myself a sig of Pippin again. I don't know if I have a choice. I can't seem to handle life without one.
Although, to me, Bilbo in The Hobbit was the best hero ever. Sorry. (lol ) Although, I do love Elijah Wood, and Frodo as a character. The books/movies would not have been the same without them.
