Yes, thanks! And I'm glad there were three of the most inexpensive seats available together, 'cause, goodness, live theatre is pricey! I just could not justify paying the higher prices for the 'orchestra' seating. It's nosebleeds for us.
Enjoy that apple crisp, 'gazer!
Yep, here comes Daylight Saving Time for this year. It is disappointing that they (whoever 'they' are ) changed it from the last weekend of October to the first weekend of November, as the little trick-or-treaters have to wait longer now to go out on the 31st.
Right on about the cloudy nights. 'Tis lovely to treasure those rare clear evenings, because they sure don't happen too often now.
EDIT: When I first clicked on "Submit", I realized I had not added my Jo-colour to my post, so edited to do so. That really took me aback. This is what it looked like. Weird, eh?

... here comes Daylight Saving Time for this year.
Except for Arizona and a few more states in the US.

Thinking of traditional items eaten this time of year. Sweet potato has been a staple of my regular eating habits the whole year, not just around Thanksgiving/Christmas. Skinned, cut into half-inch chunks, and steamed for 15 minutes. Lightly salted. Yummy. Very healthy, too.
âSafe?â said Mr. Beaver; âdonât you hear what Mrs. Beaver tells you? Who said anything about safe? âCourse he isnât safe. But heâs good. Heâs the King, I tell you.â
Ah, yes. What are the other States? Does that discrepancy mix things up a bit in your great country?
Sweet potatoes and yams ... are they the same?
So, last night I went on a rather unexpected adventure to the worldwide Hobbit fan event, one of which was held in Toronto. 'Twas quite the show! And saw some previously not-viewed footage (20 min!!!), which, overall, was amazing, and made me look forward to this 2nd installment more than I had been. I have written up a 'report' in the Spare Oom's Tolkien thread, plus a link to some major spoilers, if anyone is curious.
Tomorrow I head on up to Ontario's Mennonite country and am touring around there with three of my cousins. It's a girls' day out! Should be lovely, especially at this time of year.

Only Arizona in the continental U.S. When I am at work on the helo, we are about a mile from California and cell phone towers in that time zone. Unless set otherwise, the time keeps changing on my cell phone as it connects and pings different towers locally. Heh. First world problem.

Yup, the first accumulating snow of the season is upon us, though it's mostly just a white coating on the grass and parked cars. We're not likely to get more than a few inches of white stuff which will probably melt away in a day or two. But it's a sure sign of things to come, and areas to our southwest are reporting nearly a foot of snow already...*
Loved your report in the Tolkien thread, jo, though I avoided reading the spoilers.
I've known about cell phones automatically changing times as they ping towers as you cross time zones, but never really thought about this being an everyday problem for people living near such borders. Still, I occasionally joke about moving to Arizona just so I don't have to put up with DST. (Or Hawaii - but neither has a climate friendly to those who appreciate a bit of chill).
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

Got another dose of golly-gee-whiz today. The sweet little baby cow from City Slickers, Norman, lived out the remainder of his life here at the west rim of the Grand Canyon on a small ranch. Nice to know he was not rendered and turned into some sweet little cowboy boots.
May try to watch the Leonids tonight.

Morterve to all my Square Onions and many well wishes!
I've graduated nursing school, passed boards and take care of patients as an honest to goodness nurse. How crazy is that?
Life is good. Just enjoying it all as it comes. Hope all are well here.
Cozy slippers!

Ohh! Nice to see you stop in. There is a core group that sticks around and keeps the place humming along.
Said it before. Say it again. People come. People go. That is Ditto Town. Place may get busy again soon with The Silver Chair in the works.
Congarats on your RN! Seems like yesterday you started school.

Ah, good, then. Thanks for that Everyday Mysteries link re sweet potatoes and yams. Cool-io!

No way, wow! Winter Wonderland!
Awww, that sweet baby cow.
See any Leonids, cep or 'gazer? It had heavy cloud-cover here, so viewing was a no-go for me. But I hope to view comet ISON tomorrow morning ... possibly?
Lady_Liln, one of our favourites peoples! Sooo lovely to see you in the Square again. I figured you must have graduated already, and am glad to hear you have obtained a nursing job. A warm and hearty congratulations to you! May I ask what unit you are in, or do you move around?
Cozy slippers. Right! We have not said that fond farewell for awhile here. I think it was Kingskid used to spoonerize that to Sozy Clippers, then we all kinda caught on.

Did not view the Leonids, Jo. The moon was quite bright. Though I cannot complain due to all what I see through work and the NVG. Certainly not deprived.
NarniaWeb. 10th Anniversary.

10 years... wow, I still can't believe it. I can hardly remember what my pre-NarniaWeb life was like anymore. Here's to another 10 years!
I wish I could say things have been busy lately, but frankly, it's not really busyness--it's just NaNo, work, and chores. But, I'm actually nearing the end of my NaNo; just hit 40K words recently.
The main problem is, I'm realizing that I took far too long in the first part of the story, so now I'm not going to be able to use everything I wanted to!
Oh well; that's what editing's for.
Well, it's certainly beginning to feel like late November. Almost all the trees around here are bare (except for the one that insists on keeping its leaves until December!
), and we had our second snow fall for this season.
At my house, both of them were light enough that they basically melted by the next day--this morning, I looked out on our deck and saw that the only remaining snow as the snow in the shadow cast by the railing.
Despite this, though, I have to keep reminding myself that (American, Jo, before you say anything
) Thanksgiving is now less than a week away!
As per our tradition, we're going to see my cousins from my mom's side (this year, we're visiting them). I get to see my cousins a lot more nowadays than I used to (both online and in real life), but it's still always a great weekend.
I love this time of year!!

Firehouse cleaning this morning. Reached under a set of storage lockers to pull out some garbage stuck underneath. Something crunched. I pulled out the something that crunched. It was the head of what I thought at first was a mummified mouse. After I screamed like a little girl, I looked closer and found it to be the head of a very, very large moth.
Uneventful Thanksgiving.

Fun story, ceppault!
Glad you had a good time visiting cousins, Ryadian. We spent Thanksgiving with my sister and her family, about 45 minutes' drive from here in good conditions. Lots of turkey and the fixings. It was a fun time!
No Leonids were viewed here either, jo, and it looks like Comet ISON has been relegated to the celestial dustbin. (Locally, it would have been hard to see through this long cloudy stretch in any case).
I woke up to a quick 6 inches (150mm) of new snow this morning, with more piling up as I type this. Guess we're having a white Christmas this year!

We had some snow and ice here at 1G4 (airport identifier that works with http://www.noaa.gov ) and are expecting more this weekend. One very nice snow plow helps keep the 5,000 ft runway cleared off. Two smaller plows working together keep the ramps clear. Two nice snowblowers are for the sidewalks and other areas.

Ten years ago today, I had my last day of work at one very toxic workplace. Left that place behind and poor decisions that went with it. NarniaWeb became a place of healing through so many different people - some are still here while others moved on.
I leave a very big thank you to all my friends here.

Hear-hear! And you have been on the forum for nearly three years longer than I have!
And I hope y'all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! (American. Well, Canadian, too, but it was nearly two months ago, lol.)
The head of a large moth, eh, cep? Whoa. Freaky.
I didn't see any Leonids on purpose (in other words, I looked for a decent amount of time the night they peaked, but saw nary a one, in part due to some wispy clouds), but as I think I posted in the Astronomy topic, I was out for my walk one evening around that time, and was gazing up into the heavens, as usual, when a large, long one streaked across the sky. Exceedingly cool. I love those unexpected night sky surprises.
Nice about the snow, stargazer. I hope we have a white Christmas. A week ago we had snow on the ground, but yesterday had a major, flash-melt, and it's all gone. Today, however, is colder again (yay!), so we shall see what the next couple of weeks bring.
cep. And thanks right back to you for all your encouragement and caring sensitivity here on the forum. And your humour! It was wonderful having the privilege of meeting you a few years ago. Here's to another one sometime!
We are hoping to cut down our Christmas tree this Sunday. One year it lasted well into March. People thought we were crazy to keep it up, but it was so fun.
