Hops out of the Fountain carrying a sack of money I was NOT stealing the wishing money. Never in a million years would I ever would I do that. Well, I'm back to the forum after living solely on chat for a while now, so I figured I should pop in here for a bit. I won't post about what I've done in the past year in a half, because frankly, you might die from boredom (I almost did!
). Instead, I'll just comment for now.
Ben Chickens are fun, my family had two roosters awhile back. Got them from a friend who had way to many for his own good. Anyways, they p**p a lot and tend to mistake your finger's for worms and your eye's for bugs. So watch your finger's and protect your eyes. Otherwise you may end up like this ... Lol
Re: Allergies and Pets My family was faced with this problem because we all had allergies. But we also have 3 dogs (mine is Husky - Rottweiler). Solution: Put them outside on leashes, of course this only works when you live way out in the country and have 3.5 acres of land. But still
.
The Hunger Games OMIGOSH. Love these books, I got them for Christmas and read all of them that week... Couldn't put them down.
On the topic of Doctor Who and the word 'Beastly' or just 'beast' I've become horribly addicted to Doctor Who and around here, Beastly or Beast is a term for something awesome, rad or crazy. "That's shot was beastly!" or "Your a beast!"
Summer/Spring Can't wait for it. First comes spring gobbler and then comes summer, and all the camping it entails. Can't wait .

I do not like it here or there
I do not like this lack of winter anywhere!

Right off the bat, I can think of some Jane Austen examples: Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy are a clear example, and I would say Emma and Mr. Knightley counts, too.
I thought of Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy right away. I can't think of anyone else.
Any book recommendations would be nice, though I'm not exactly sure what I'm looking for.
*coughTheScrewtapeLetterscough* I haven't read them in a while but these books are good.

I'm severely allergic to cats. My allergist told me that as long as I have cats I'll be fine with them but they should be kept out of my bed. (oops I don't follow that rule. I don't let cats sleep with me at night though).

Happy PI day (3.14) to all! (I wouldn't have forgotten about it if it hadn't been mentioned on TV).
It's still 60F at 10.15 at night in March in Minnesota. Go figure. But it's a comfy 31F in International Falls right now - even that's comparatively toasty. More records later this week - yikes!
Has anyone noticed that pair of bright lights in the western sky of late? That's Tarva and Alambil - er, I mean Venus and Jupiter. They'll remain close over the next few days though Jupiter will continue to sink below the brighter planet now.
The Hunger Games - my only familiarity with the books, until movie ads started appearing, was from discussions here on the forum. I haven't read the books yet but the movie sounds interesting.
*Tosses scattered chocolates and sweets around the Square before departing*
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
*stretches upon entering the square * I feel awfully tired. Physically, that is. My mom, sister, and I went for a really long walk today, which was great…still is.
Good Mortereve Square Onions!
Sleepy Sunday afternoons are so.... sleepy. And with losing an hour, even more...sleepy *gets Winnie-the-Pooh-ish*
Well, it seems official, spring has come on this side of the screen. It’s been beautiful days so far—even to the inhabitants on this-side-of-the-screen, where we usually have low temperatures this time of the year, are commenting how nice and warm it is. It's been some time since we have been able to sit outside with a good book, or a... brunchnner (that's an attempt of combining breakfast, lunch, and dinner). Our cats absolutely love this weather.
Additional excitement: We've been seeing Venus and Jupiter along with (what I think) Orion. It's been really exciting! Also, we see this blinking red body in the sky. I think it's a planet, but Aitb said it might be one of them special stars.
That's Tarva and Alambil - er, I mean Venus and Jupiter.
Those are the first names that come to my mind every time I see them.
I almost said tonight, "Look how bright Tarva and Alambil are!"
CSLN! Wow, it's great to see you in the Square again. *offers CS some of the most decadent chocolate from the Tree (the Royal Lady gave her permission, of course)* How are you doing?
Hello Jo! Well thank-you for a warm greeting. Oooh, chocolate, don't mind if I do *takes the precious cocoa and gobbles it up* I'm doing well.
Trying to find some good books to read, of recent. I keep turning to older classics that I haven’t read yet (Sherlock Holmes, some Dickens, etc.) *giggles at Jo’s ‘Sorting books’ av and sig* It always ends up like that
“Hey, I remember this book!” “Oh, this book is so funny.” “You never read this book! READ IT!”
How about you, how are you doing?
Up until last night and this morning it's been a glorious spring. I've been doing a lot of gardening (which I've been posting about in the Gardening thread) and I even planted a second row of peas yesterday. It was 70F, I couldn't help it, I HAD to plant something. But when I woke up this morning there was a layer of sleet over the ground, it looked like snow (picture posted in the weather thread). The weather is very fickle in Kansas in the spring and fall. But even with this last minute cold, it's still not as cold as it could be this time of year.
Your pictures in the thread usually make me really hungry… thinking about it now makes me hungry.
I understand--fickle weather is not agreeable.
I hope the weather gets better so you can proceed with your garden.
How are you?
Well, I need to go do some spring cleaning, but until then good-bye!

Every time I think of a quote or witty comment to put here, the quote is not so spectacular and the comment is not so witty.
*takes a seat next to the fountain and grins* Good mortereve, Square Onions! I feel like I'm in a bit of a trance - I can't comprehend that it's actually spring break. I had (at least) one test every day this week, and it seems too good to be true that it's finally over. I have quite a lot of studying to do over break, but that's manageable since I get to sleep in every morning. *sighs contentedly*
No better time to post in here than during break!
*Bursts surprised into the square shocked at discovering yet another place in this great maze of Narina web and sweeps such a low curtsey that it's a struggle to get up again*
NarniaWeb is indeed full of surprises! I'm glad you found your way to the Town Square. It's a fun place, if a bit slow of late, and I do hope you enjoy it!
Thank-you to Fantasia, Jill, Dernhelom_of_Rohan, and Louise the Second for the comforting words about my cat, Chico. It means a lot.
A pet wolf? That sounds so awesome.
Aw, thanks for the birthday wishes Louise! It was lovely indeed, made even better by all of you here on NarniaWeb. *ooh's and ahh's at the beautiful cake* It's almost too pretty to eat.
Ahhh, Clue! A favourite from my childhood, and more recently, we played it at great lengths at DiGoRyKiRkE's house at our Ohio Lion Party for The VotDT. We had individual spread charts and everything. Such fun!
Oh, how grand! My family was introduced to it quite recently - last summer, to be precise. We enjoyed playing it so much that I bought it for my dad for Christmas, and we've been playing it [nearly] every weekend since. It's fun how traditions can be formed, and also rather interesting how each person tends to play the same character every time (I'm always Ms. Scarlet, my dad is commonly Mr. Green, and my mom Professor Plum). The version I bought is a more modernized version, with more rooms and weapons and some additional Intrigue Cards. It took some adjusting, but we have fun with it.
*waveths to stardf and Ben*
And ELLA! Wow, it's so good to see you in here again!
Is is a glorious spring yet, or is it still a cold winter?
Here in Michigan, it seems to have skipped spring and leaped right into summer. This past week it's been eighty degrees. Not complaining at all, mind you.
I have been reading the Hunger Games trilogy as well, Fireflower. I only finished the first book, however, as I haven't been able to get my hands on the second. I'm hoping to start on it as soon as possible. And oooh - To Kill a Mockingbird! One of my all-time favorites. I'm glad you enjoyed it overall. I had a brilliant time re-reading it for English class last semester. And then this semester we went to Shakespeare. Not my best-loved author of all time, buuuuut.... it could have been worse.
Happy PI day (3.14) to all! (I wouldn't have forgotten about it if it hadn't been mentioned on TV).
Interesting that you should mention that. My class had a fundraiser on PI day - they sold slices of pie. Additionally, whoever could recount the first twenty-five numbers by memory received several free slices. (I think only one or two people attempted it; I wasn't one of them. I can memorize events and dates, but numbers are not my thing.)

My mom, sister, and I went for a really long walk today, which was great…still is.
I did that myself a few days ago. I took our dog, and since it was the first walk we've taken since last summer I think I wore him out. We weren't home yet, and he was the one who wanted to stop and be petted and assured we'd get there.
My class had a fundraiser on PI day - they sold slices of pie. Additionally, whoever could recount the first twenty-five numbers by memory received several free slices.
3.14159 -- that's as far as I can go. And then of course, the next day is the Ides of March, and I read about someone who ordered a Caeser salad and stabbed it 23 times... and it's like, why can't I come up with fun ways to celebrate/commemorate events like that? I let my life be boring.
I'm fond of the red piece when playing Clue as well. My sister prefers Mr. Green, and my little brother likes Professor Plum.
Then I wondered about Lilliandil.

Hello from Rapid City, South Dakota! We're driving cross-country as my brother starts a new job in Seattle next week. It'll be nice to see some mountain snows in the next couple days after all the heat of the last week or so (we stopped by my parents' house in southern Minnesota yesterday, on the way through. It was 80F with occasional heavy rain).
With luck the present low overcast might clear off soon so I can view Lilliandil in the west.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
I've specifically been wondering about Attolia. A lot of NWebbers like it and I'd love to hear a little more about the series, if any of you are willing to enlighten me.
![]()
I think several of us managed to sell you on the Attolia series, so I have to ask if you've picked them up yet? And if so, what do you think so far?
It's supposed to reach 70F here next week; time to dust off the tent and sleeping bag perhaps - or at least the campfire equipment!
So did you manage to go camping at all? Or was it too hot? I know you've been having record heat where you are. I don't think we've broken any records here, but it's definitely been a warm, warm spring. Our trees are all budding out and the weeds are growing like... weeds. I need to mow, but it keeps raining so I can't.
On the subject of the Hunger Games (since I've seen it mentioned by several people), who all is gonna go see the movie this weekend? It looks very well made but I will probably pass as I know the extreme violence would really bother me. Reading about it one thing, seeing it is a whole different story.
Has anyone noticed that pair of bright lights in the western sky of late? That's Tarva and Alambil - er, I mean Venus and Jupiter. They'll remain close over the next few days though Jupiter will continue to sink below the brighter planet now.
I'm no astronomer, but I couldn't help but notice these two several times when I was out walking my dog, or even just glancing up in the sky. It was quite impressive.
I also posted this in the astronomy thread, but I figure it's worth a mention here too. A week or two ago, I was driving home when I happened to see a meteor streak across the sky in broad daylight. That was a first for me, I'd never seen that before. It was bright white with some greenish hues around the outside. Really, really neat. It burned up long before it hit the ground though.
Your pictures in the thread usually make me really hungry… thinking about it now makes me hungry.
I've been salivating over my blueberries for days now. I have a lot coming on which makes me really happy. My sister found online that it takes 60-80 days for the blueberries to mature though, and I was like "What?!?!?!" They look like they're coming on a lot faster than that.
I also tried a leaf of spinach yesterday.
Today is probably going to revolve around gardening. I plan to cut up my potatoes so I can plant them this weekend, and then I also hope to repot at least one tray of plants. We'll see how that goes.
Well, I need to go do some spring cleaning, but until then good-bye!
Ugh... spring cleaning. Yep, need to do that too.

It'll be nice to see some mountain snows...
Enjoy your mountain snow. And have a safe trip!

You got it, babycakes!
I picked up To Kill a Mockingbird.
I just finished reading that, myself, Mountie, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The book was somewhat reminiscent of Jan Karon's Mitford series and James Herriot's classic vet books, in terms of endearing characters. Atticus' wisdom and calmness was awesome, and the kids were all priceless (loved Scout, especially, and Dill cracked me up), as were the various neighbours and acquaintances. We had the film playing in town awhile back, and it was great to see it on the big screen.
Mountie, a number of NarniaWebbers have recommended Andrew Peterson's (yes, the musician) "Wingfeather Saga" to me, which I have just begun. I'm not quite sure where it's heading, but it's a good read so far. I think there are four in the series, but the fourth one has not yet been released.
I'm not the one to ask about the Attolia books, as they didn't strike me like they do others here. I really need to give them another chance, because methinks I am missing something that others are catching.
*waves cheerily to narnianerd*
Has anyone noticed that pair of bright lights in the western sky of late? That's Tarva and Alambil - er, I mean Venus and Jupiter.
Love that! I have thought of those too, as well as thinking of brilliant Venus as Tolkien's "Eärendil". What an awesome display the winter sky is now!
*chuckles heartily at Twigs' "Lilliandil" comment*
CSLN, hello! Well, ruddy Mars rises in the east in the evening, but it doesn't really ... blink.
In what part of the sky are you seeing the blinking star?
Yes, indeed, I do so like my avvy and sig, kind courtesy of Meltintalle. The original folk in the sig are actually Mel, Amy/ww and I, and lysander.
Louise the 2nd, are you planning to see The Hunger Games movie? And haha on that fun fundraiser on PI day! I'm glad that, even though you had schoolwork to do over the break, you were able to lie in. That makes a difference, doesn't it?
I was sorting books today at a library
I find that soooooooooo hard to do, because I always end up browsing through them (hence my avatar/sig set, lol).

Oooh, Rapid City! We visited there years ago on our way to Montana to see friends. I recall going down some really cool caves nearby. And, of course, we couldn't pass up seeing beautiful Mount Rushmore, of which Steven (the PI guy I mentioned above) was terrified, being just under 3 years old at the time. He was so scared of "those faces". Awww ...
And mountain snow sounds awesome on this unusually hot March day—about 25C/77F here now, with a bit of humidity thrown in. About as warm tomorrow, then thankfully dropping to cooler temperatures (though still above the average) on Friday, whew! (And our other son is snowboarding in Québec today at Mt. Tremblant. He says it's so warm, some folk are in their shorts and t-shirts.
)

but I will probably pass as I know the extreme violence would really bother me. Reading about it one thing, seeing it is a whole different story.
Nellie/Kimberly and I are planning to see The Hunger Games next Wednesday after she has an appointment in Toronto, but I'll read up on it first, as I know the violence could really bother me too. Maybe I'll just wait for the DVD. We'll see ...
My father-in-law is a math teacher, so for Pi Day, my mother-in-law made a pie to send in to work with him, and then also a square cake because 'Pi R 2', 'no, Pie are round, cake are square.'

And you know I always enjoy reading about your gardening adventures, so keep 'em coming! Also, how utterly cool about seeing that meteor in broad daylight, wow!

Alas, no camping occurred last week...too hot. Actually, I was pretty busy with other things, like preparing for this trip.
Saw some very pretty snowcapped mountains today, especially the Bighorns, which I'm fond of as a sort of 'gateway' to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. And here in Butte we have about 6 inches on the ground. Quite pretty, actually. (And the low here was a pleasant 7F - though we weren't yet here to enjoy it).
Tis cloudy so there won't be any stargazing tonight, alas.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
*pokes head in*
Wow. It's been a really long time since I've posted in here.
There's a lot going on in life right now...
School's going great, although my workload's pretty heavy right now.
I'm leaving for Mexico on Friday. Super excited about that. It'll be my second mission's trip and my first year leading a VBS down there. It's also kinda scary for me...last year I had my brother with me, but this time (due to his injuries) I'll be going down alone with his church. But looking at the good side, I get to learn how to make balloon animals!
My family's as busy as I am. We're working on getting our garden planted, finishing up the school year, and waiting for my brother's letter of acceptance for the Air Force Academy.
Speaking of my brother, my family's pretty worried about him. As some of you may know, he was hurt last weekend in his hockey game. His gash is healing well and he gets the stitches out on Monday, but he has nerve damage and can no longer feel hot and cold in his right hand. He's got an appointment with a neurologist on the 3rd, so we'll see how permanent the damage is then.
Other than that, life is pretty boring right now.
How are all of you doing?

'Tis a rainy day here in Seattle...though the past few days were actually rather pleasant. Yesterday we took a field trip up to the Skagit Valley. Some daffodils were blooming, but the main attraction - the tulips - are yet to come. We did see a few dozen trumpeter swans and hundreds of snowgeese. And the snow-covered Cascades made a nice backdrop.
This weekend we're planning a trip up to my brother's old haunt - Port Angeles and Sequim over on the Olympic Peninsula (it's likely too early to venture into the Olympic Mountains themselves; they get lots of snow! )
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
Good mortereve!
And then of course, the next day is the Ides of March, and I read about someone who ordered a Caeser salad and stabbed it 23 times... and it's like, why can't I come up with fun ways to celebrate/commemorate events like that? I let my life be boring.
How clever! I recently finished reading through Julius Caesar in my English class. Buying a Caesar salad and stabbing it 23 times is so creative. I wish I could think up things like that.
Louise the Second, I'm actually planning to go see the Hunger Games with a girlfriend this Sunday. I'm very excited.

Mmm, that must have been breath-taking! Speaking of the white stuff, we actually have snow falling tonight. It could be the last of the season, with this generally warmer year so far, 'though we have seen snow in April and even May before.
Hi Melian. Great to see you in the Square! I hope the damage to your brother's hand isn't permanent. And how awesome you're going on this mission trip to Mexica. (Ooooh, balloon animals, cool!) Speaking of Mexico, does anyone know Audio Adrenaline's "Mission Trip to Mexico"? It should be the theme song for your group's trip, Melian.
Re mission trips: for the rest of my life I will have memorable and fond memories of one I went on (for two months) to Nigeria in between my first and second university years. We did VBS-type clubs there too. Unforgettable, indeed.
It sounds like you're enjoying some wonderful sight-seeing, stargazer. Trumpeter swans, snowgeese, and the Cascade Mountains? Awesome!

'Tis true!
My four days with wisewoman was weally wondewful. Thanks for asking.
So, Nellie and I saw The Hunger Games this past Wednesday and were quite impressed. It's a very good adaptation, with little I'd change ('though were a few more minor things I wish they had left in). The sets, costumes and acting (Jennifer Lawrence simply is Katniss!) were excellent. And, despite the brutality of the book, I appreciate how the filmmakers did not dwell overly long on the majority of the gruesome scenes (if reviews had said it was gratuitous, I would never have gone to see it), although the audience knows exactly what is happening, to be sure. I would like to see it again on the big screen at some point. I do recommend caution, though, because, as some of you know, the story, itself, is exceedingly disturbing. *loves Rue, my favourite character* Foxface is quite cool too. Probably my second favourite. Let me know what you think, Louise!
Well, it's April Fool's this weekend. I wonder what the mods are up to ...
