At Lily's desperate banging, Atom started, and a second time snapped his pencil lead as it lept across his paper. "Ugh, who is that?" he growled softly.
Darek was seated at his desk with a soldering iron, carefully running it over a portion of a hunk of wires, metal plates and who-knows-what-else. "Not a Giver," he commented without looking up.
Atom glanced up at the front-left corner of the room by the roof. "No, most definitely a Receiver. The Givers never run." This observation for some reason made him laugh. He therefore rose from his seat in a much better humor and went to the door. A quick look through the peek hole later and he exclaimed, "Holy cow! It's Lily!" Turning around quickly back to Darek, there was no sign of the contraption Darek had been working on just a few moments before. Instead, a journal was laying open in front of him, and he was writing in it as imperturbably as he had been soldering.
"Well, instead of gawking and staring, let her in," was his dry and humored comment.
With a shrug, Atom opened the door and smiled at Lily. "Hello!" he said as he stood aside to let her pass.
Darek stood and smiled also, though in a gentle sort of way. "Greetings! Is there something we can do for you?" He gestured towards one of the the beds (the most comfortable seats in the room) and sat on the opposite bed of the one he had indicated.

Lilly gulped down air "I need- help." She panted "Nan told me to and ask you." she leaned over and placed her hands on her knees; she hadn't realized how far it was from the theater to here. She straitened up and tugged on a strand of her hair "It's dangerous... but you probably already assumed that." Lilly's violet eyes were huge "I need you to steal something." she paused with unintentional dramatic effect "From the Givers."

Darek raised an eyebrow, though his gentle smile did not change. He glanced towards Atom, who also had an eyebrow raised. "That's... Very interesting. And what would the Givers have that you would desire so very greatly?" The tone was calm, level and soft. The blue eyes regarded her with only faint surprise, and the smile was still playing about his lips. And yet, there was no mockery in them.

Lilly looked at the boys and said "It's for the whole court, I need the different tools that the Givers teach us to use... but they're always locked up and there's no way for me to get to them. but Nan said that you are good at these sorts of things so I'm asking you..." She had to give the whole truth "It will put your life in danger." she said quietly "But it's already too late for Nan... and the longer it takes the more likely it will be that it will be to late for others as well." Tears welled up in her already swollen eyes "Please, please do this."

Darak's other eyebrow arched upward, and the amused light in his eyes faded. Atom took a deep and rather shaky breath, and they exchanged glances.
"I don't suppose," Darek began in a low and steady tone, "you can tell us where you got this information? But, it doesn't really matter." He turned towards Atom with a question in his eyes.
Atom bit his lower lip thoughtfully and his eyebrows knotted together as he lowered his head to look at the ground, as though the answer might be found there.
There was a deep and breath-taking silence for a long while. Darek waited patiently, his eyes fixed on Atom.
Finally, Atom raised his head, and there was resolution in his steady gaze. A faint nod made his curls bounce ever so slightly.
Darek let out his breath softly, then turned to Lily. "We will do what we can. Frankly, I can make no promises, except this one." He leaned forward and ever so gently took her little hand in his. Looking straight into her eyes he said, "We will do whatever it takes to save everyone we can." He softly squeezed her hand, then released it. "And if you can discover any way of saving Nan... Well, let us know."

"Thank you! oh, thank you so much!" now she had to go as fast as she could back to Nan "I have o go. I have to meet Nan in the theater." She stood up "I don't know if I'm allowed to tell you everything..." She would have to ask Nan. "Thank you again." She said as the opened the door "I'll be back to tell you exactly which ones that I need." She walk/ ran back to the theater as fast as her short legs would carry her and reached the doors more than slightly out of breath. she swung them open and addressed Nan "He'll help, I just need to know what we need."

But no answer came to Lilly. Nan was gone...

Brownie felt nervous. Nervous and excited. He had to go check to see how the project was coming along.
He knocked on Darak's door, whispering through the crack, "It's me Brownie. How's it going in there?"

Lilly was shocked when she saw that Nan hadn't waited there as had been planned. Nan just didn't seem the type to disappear with no notice. what was she going to do without Nan to help her? she didn't know the first thing about saving a whole school full of people.
The theater seemed deathly quiet and extremely dismal... her footsteps echoed as she made a walk by search in case Nan was just out of sight working on something... but Nan was completely gone. Lilly held back tears of frustration and exited the room... only to be confronted by McKenzie Nicholas Midread.
"Well," McKenzie said in a rather unpleasant voice "You are exactly who I was looking for."
"Why were you looking for me?" Lilly asked. she was worried, from what she could tell of McKenzie he wasn't a very nice person to be around.
"Oh... I just thought we could have a little chat, that's all." He gave an almost evil grin. "I just thought I would tell you that you should be on the lookout for that dove of yours... you wouldn't want a giver to find that one."
"What did you do?" Lilly asked suspiciously.
"Nothing..." and thought to himself, yet. Then he summed the "interview" up with a nice hard kick to her shin and lolloped off towards his room.
Lilly now disliked McKenzie more than she already had. She started semi limping back towards Darrek and Adom's room to tell them that she couldn't find Nan... this was going to take a while.

Dan walked slowly to his room, so far it had been a really long day and he had allot to think over... what were did the coming days have in store for him? whatever it was, he hoped that it wouldn't be what finally tipped him towards mental.

Grace put the horses in the little shed behind the inn, then she hurried down to the feed store (or whatever they call those kinds of places in Vayond). She bought a large bag of oats , then returned to Stendar and Liams room, she knocked on the door I hope this is the last time I have to knock on this door tonight... Grace thought to herself. She yawned, then waited.

"Where would that be? Near here?" Micah watched Traveler closely, still wary. If he was telling the truth, and Micah could find the weapon smith who made this arrow, he may be able to give him advantageous information about the enemy.
Micah glanced casually through the window to the world without; the street was basking in the brightness of the late morning sun, which was almost directly overhead now. The others would be wondering where he was soon; he knew he'd better start heading back soon. But, if there was information to be gained, he wanted that first.

This time, Atom did not jump out of his skin at the knock. They had heard the footsteps coming down the hall, loud and clear through the hidden though primitive speaker in the front left corner of the room.
"It's Brownie," Darek had commented, without looking up from his work.
And so it was that Atom was expecting the knock on the door. He trotted across the room and opened the door a crack big enough for Brownie to slip through, then shut it behind him.
Still without looking up, Darek replied to Brownie's question. "It's going well, though I'm afraid that the quality of the simulacrum may not be at it's peak." He glanced up with an apologetic expression on his face as he added, "I have as of yet, not been able to test it, being in such a hurry."
"But it'll work," Atom assured Brownie in a low voice near his ear, one brown eyebrow arching in a mischievously confident sort of way.

Traveler listened to the blacksmith's questions, and smiled, "Unfortunately, no, the weapon smith lives in the capitol city, at least when I knew him. By his personality though, I doubt he has moved."
He too gazed out the window, watching the people, and his mind thought of all the interesting things that could be happening, of all the people that may need help. He sighed a bit, weighing this conversation against the needs of his calling... and decided to stay.

Micah's chair creaked as he leaned back a bit. "The capitol, you say?" If it were a trap, it would surely be set up closer... Micah mused, though he wasn't sure the argument was strong. Still, he felt as though Traveler could be trusted, mysterious though he was. Perhaps he could guide him to this weapon smith he spoke of... but Micah would have to consult the others back at the hideout first.
Micah took a moment to survey each of the faces at the table: Falcon, Isla, Traveler, and Calix. After a moment's deliberation, he posited a question to them all. "If I may ask, what interest have you all in this matter? Mere curiosity, or deeper concern? I know my own reasons, but I'm not sure of yours." He let his inquiry hang in the space between them, awaiting the answers that would be provided.
