Isla left with Falcon. She shut the door to their well-hidden abode tightly and slid a wooden bar into place. With silent steps, she followed her trainer into the forest. It would take them about an hour to reach the town and that was if they hurried, which they would.
Isla stepped onto a log and walked across it. "The forest is unusually quiet..."

Shyanne looked at Susanne. "My father loves me, yes, but not enough to give me what I want."

"Why was the man he picked not to your liking? I'm sure he would have been able to care for you." She asked, finding talking helped keep her mind off the danger that surrounded them. "

"Love me and care for me, of course. But I didn't love him or care for him." Shyanne said. "He's a proud, vulgar man."
"Besides, it's difficult to love someone when your heart belongs to another." Shyanne glanced toward the opening of the cave. "Micah is the only man I ever cared for."

Brendlyn came a little nearer. She didn't understand what Jarien meant by poems and riddles -- she spoke as her parents had spoken (back when they were alive), as they were the only people she had ever heard. But she was glad that he might possibly accept her help.
"Which was this Micah you speak of?" she asked. She had seen more than one person leave the group, and knew he must be one of them. She did not yet know them all by name, though.
Jarien paused a moment, as if thinking, and then motioned for her to approach. "Micah is our leader, the tall one with brown hair and the sword across his back. He is a blacksmith" He told her. Turning, he whispered to Adi for a moment and his girlfriend disappeared back into the cleft.
Adi walked down into the cleft and over to Shyanne and Susane, "The person outside is named Brendlyn, she wants to help us, so Jarien is letting her in, until Micah can talk with her."

The fires swept to the night sky, illuminating the darkness and painting the forest hues of orange and red. The tongues of flame ate up the wooden buildings like only so much firewood, finishing the task that their creators had started. The crackling of wood and creaking of timbers as they weakened were the only sounds.
No one payed any attention to the young man in the middle of the village, his red hair hanging over his face as he sobbed. In his arms he held the body of a woman, his mother. His voice rose above the other noises, crying out in madness and horror, asking why.
Behind him, a figure appeared, it's boots making a cracking noise as they broke a twig on the ground. The boy lurched to his feet, a dagger clasped in his hand, "MURDERER!" he screamed, attacking the figure.
With a subtle movement, the boy is knocked backwards, his dagger flying. The man stepped into the light, his features being revealed. His brown eyes are warm and hold compassion for the boy, he extended his hand and droped a water skin and pouch at the boy's feet, "take these... and know, your tale will not go untold."
Saying thus, the man turned and walked between two burning buildings, and dissappeared. The boy remained where he was, staring after the man.

Atom and Darren watched the dramatic events unfold in the dining room in fascinated silence. Atom accompanied his silence with periodic bounces of glee. When they were dismissed, they exchanged looks with raised eyebrows and skulked out of the hall and straight to their room. Darrek was never much for just plain chatting (it never could hold his attention for very long, though he was always polite and kind), and it was hardly unusual for him to go straight to his room. Atom, being his official sidekick, pretty much always followed him, as he did this time as well.

At Brownie's knock, Darek glanced up from his book, and Atom started so hard, his pencil skittered across his paper until it ran into the wood of the table and snapped its lead. This made Darek start to laugh, in his quiet, gentle way, and Atom mumbled something about cheesy pencils that hopped like jumping beans.
Going to the door, Darek flicked open a hidden flap that had been carved out of the wood and peered through a peek-hole. The hole in the other side of the door was so tiny, it was nearly invisible to the naked eye. Even the sharp eyes of the Givers had never noticed it. Darek had adjusted the glass inside the door to magnify what was shown through the hole, and it was very handy in knowing when to hide his projects.
When he saw who it was and what was happening, his brow grew dark and he quickly stepped backwards, widening the opening of the door to let Brownie in. He said nothing, but his expression was severe towards McKenzie.

Falcon searched the surroundings of the forest, “It is quiet. Do you not like quiet?” Falcon asked with a smile. Falcon stepped over a log then continued, She is right, it is strangely silent.

"No, no, quiet is good. Very good for the thoughtful mind." Isla said, following Falcon. "Not that I have a thoughtful mind, but you do."

"Of course!" Tivvens replied to Dan. "You can ask absolutely anything you like."

Brownie stood waiting outside Darek's bedroom door, still waiting to speak to him.
Suddenly his heart sank. Down the hall, he could see McKenzie coming toward him...

"This," Nan continued, lifting up the hamfstrum, "is used to erase devices such as this --" she opened up a little drawer and pulled out a flat silver disc (such as might be called a CD or DVD in our world).

Dan was careful not to ask outright how much he was going to be trusted and merely said "Well, I was wondering exactly how much time I will be spending with Childress... I- don't want to get behind on my lessons. That's all." Dan was still worried about this whole arrangement. Was he going to have to spend all his time constraining his feelings towards the Givers?
~~~~~
McKenzie Smirked at Brownie's blanched face.
"What? Are you scared of a little bit o' fun? you scared of me? No, I would have never guessed that. After all, you are the favorite in this town." McKenzie moved closer and grabbed brownie by the collar. "Be careful with your high and mighty act, Browning. I might just have to smash your face in if them Givers don't see fit to do it themselves." He spat in to brownies eyes. "How do you like that, eh?"
McKenzie still wasn't satisfied. So he took a step back and gave Brownie a nice, hard shove that was intended to send the younger boy sprawling backwards.
"Oh," Lilly said, a little uncomprehendingly "but wha-" she suddenly recognized the disc shaped object. "What's on there(!)?" she exclaimed "They had those in my world. Sometimes there was music on them, Or sometimes Movies... Do you know what that is? And sometimes pictures..." Lilly trailed off. She was remembering one time when she had slipped quietly down the stairs of the orphanage, to watch through the stair rails what the headmistress and her employees were watching.
Micah considered Edmund's warning carefully, rather than dismissing it immediately, because he knew how important it was to be careful. After a moment of thought, he shook his head. "Someone needs to go back, and we can't send Sirius back alone. I will be careful. Besides, I don't think I'll be in danger."
Micah looked up and surveyed the drab town square, which was only mildly busy since today was not a market day. His eyes surveyed all of the people milling about, as he wondered how much much danger really was nearby. Were the Hunters still here in town, or had they continued on? He couldn't know for sure; which is why he wanted everyone back at the Hideout in the woods as soon as possible. He himself would head there, right after he spoke to Calix. Perhaps this mysterious wanderer would know more about the danger they were all facing.
"Be careful heading back. I'll meet you there soon," he said simply, and headed in the opposite direction, toward the Eatery at the other end of town, keeping his head low and trying to avoid confrontation of any kind.
Once outside the butcher's shop, Sirius thanked Micah profusely for buying the cheap meat, and then went with Edmund back to the hideout. "Are you going to leave town?" he asked, half hoping they wouldn't, even though he knew they were in danger. Strangely enough, part of him wanted to go with them, even though then he would be in danger. But what would I tell my parents? I can't just leave! Mother would die from sadness!
Edmund was thinking of the best way to get back to the hideout without ebing noticed, When Sirus broke through his thoughts. "I am leaving town. I think you're Staying with Micah." He turned to Micah. "Is Sirus coming with me or you?"
Micah heard Sirius’s question, but saw behind the boy’s eyes something deeper: the purest sort of bravery, and a desire to help. “We’ll talk about our next move with the others; I honestly don’t know what will come next. Right now, I think you should go back to the hideout with Edmund. Here in town, I may be a target for danger; it’s not wise for you to come with me right now. Of course, you could also go to your own home, if you so wish. It’s up to you.” With that, Micah gave Sirius and encouraging and grateful pat on his shoulder, before heading his separate direction.
