Dorothy stopped in her tracks as Ms. Nvust sharply called her name. Pasting a smile on her lips, she turned and lowered in a graceful curtsy. "Ms. Nvust, what a pleasant surprise. To what do I owe this unexpected meeting?"

Despite her delighted facade, she was clenching her jaw and mentally cursing the school, the Givers and every Receiver who ever crossed her.

As much as Dan didn't like the idea of constantly being in the clutches of a Giver, this couldn't be too bad, it did at least mean that he wasn't going to be in trouble, quite the opposite in fact. This development might even be a good step to getting rid of the Givers.
"I'm honored!" He exclaimed with as much gusto as he could muster "I had not realized that I could be in such favor.
"Ms. Tivvens, might I ask you something?" A plan was forming in his head. If he could get enough information, he could use it to see what times were safe for the receivers to meet with each other without being overheard.

Lilly had in fact never seen anything even close to what Nan had just showed her. It was the oddest little gadget she'd seen in her life with strange letters and little round buttons.
"No, I haven't ever seen it before... It looks very interesting though. How does it work?"

Mckenzie had finally sorted out his homework and was now in a much better mood so he went to find that Brownie kid, He was going to pick a nice fight with him since his last little bit of fun had gone down the drain pipe.

"I was born in these wildlands, have always lived in the wildlands, and know nothing more than the wildlands -- but it is knowledge enough for me. You can trust me because there is nothing I could gain from betraying or harming you, but plenty to gain if I came to your assistance. We have a common enemy. And if I die by destroying that enemy we share, then I have died with good purpose. My parents were killed by their swords, and they will die by mine. But you have not wronged me, and so I will not wrong you. What I say is the truth, for the truth is all I tell -- anything but truth is fitting for no one but a coward or villain."

Jarien listened to her as she spoke, understanding most of what she said. The way she talked tended to confuse him. As she finished he held up a hand, "ok, that helps somewhat, but could you please stop talking in poems and riddles, it makes the brain ache" He thought for a moment, "I see no reason not to trust you, so I suppose I can let you into the camp, but Micah will want to talk with you when he returns"

Brendlyn came a little nearer. She didn't understand what Jarien meant by poems and riddles -- she spoke as her parents had spoken (back when they were alive), as they were the only people she had ever heard. But she was glad that he might possibly accept her help.

"Which was this Micah you speak of?" she asked. She had seen more than one person leave the group, and knew he must be one of them. She did not yet know them all by name, though.

“Well, I’ve often tried to as of late, but never able to write about home.” Will replied to Stevie, “Somehow it’s protected by a large shield of writers block, and I can’t think of a single thing, even though I try every night.”
Will took a seat on a reading chair, “about ever returning, I do hope so. I’d hate to be a wet-blanket about the entire thing, so I keep hoping for that silver lining. Perhaps one day we will all escape this place. But as of when, I really haven’t figured that out yet.”

Falcon sat, thinking the question over, “I have no way of knowing, so it would not be right for me to answer yes or no. If you keep searching memory for writer of mystery letter, maybe you find answer to that question as well.” Falcon said.

"Dorothy, I need to see you immediately in my office" Ms. Nvust breathed, staring at the addressed Receiver and Sam. "Follow me"

Isla looked up, "Unfortunately, my memory is hardly better than the day you stitched up my head."

She finished her soup and took it to the large basin they used for washing dishes. "You don't remember anyone saying they knew me at the tavern where you found me?"

"Of course!" Tivvens replied to Dan. "You can ask absolutely anything you like."

"Well, I'd better put him back before someone comes in and sees him," Alder said. "Why don't we go out and find the others? I haven't seen Stevie at all today. I wonder wht she's up to?"

Brownie stood waiting outside Darek's bedroom door, still waiting to speak to him.

Suddenly his heart sank. Down the hall, he could see McKenzie coming toward him...

Janiece took Daniella's hand and led her to their room. Henry was waiting there excitedly.

"You won't believe it, Jan!" he cried. "Today I was able to lead someone to Christ! And after being here only less than one day! It may be a wretched place to live here, but it could be the greatest thing that's ever hapenned to us! Who knows how many other people here are just dying to hear the words that we're dying to bring!"

"That's wonderful, Henry!" Janiece cried.

"This," Nan continued, lifting up the hamfstrum, "is used to erase devices such as this --" she opened up a little drawer and pulled out a flat silver disc (such as might be called a CD or DVD in our world).

"Hi, Stella and Lyssa! Would you mind maybe showing me around, if you have the time? I would hate to get lost and I don't know anything about the classes! I'm completely lost already!" Tess was really actually doing this to get to know them better. She was a fast learner so she already knew where her room, her class, the dining hall, and now the library was!

Daniella looked at the nerdy boy. "Look, I already know Christ so...how can you help me with my problem?"

Dorothy gave a quick nod. "Please, lead the way, Ms. Nvust."

Shyanne continued to listen to the girl, though she stayed in her place. She glanced at Susanne and said, "I hope Micah returns soon."

Nvust nodded and spun on one heel steadily plodding the way back to her office. The path was not straight nor would she slow, she just expected Dorothy to not lag behind. Her sharp blue eyes darted about every hall and noticed every Receiver that passed and anything that moved. Her expression never changed until they reached their destined door. "Dorothy, inside" she said forcefully "Sam, you are to wait here, and do not move"

Dorothy kept up with ease. She was used to storming around.

When Ms. Nvust ushered her in, Dorothy took a quick glance at Sam and then stepped into the Giver's office. She took a seat and said, "I hope we are going to talk about the dining room incident that occurred only this morning."

Nvust swept in and shut the door tightly behind her, sitting stiffly upon her chair. "That is exactly why I have called you." she said. She would begin her approach softly, and wait, to build up to the point when she would unleash her flurry of words.

"Oh, good. I'm very glad." Dorothy said, touching her slightly bruised nose and sniffed for effect. "I hope you are not going to punish Daniella too harshly. I'm afraid she hasn't had the proper upbringing, like I have, so her manners are quite despicable."
