“I guess we’ll never know the truth unless we ask them ourselves.” Will said putting a spoonful of soup in his mouth. “Then the question is how to find out without throwing tact right out the window.”
Will picked up the bread that came with the soup and took a bite. Instead of a nice smooth warm piece of bread like the ones he would enjoy back in England with tea time, it was rough, course, and dry. “This bread is just peachy.” Will said sarcastically, and as he said the “P” in “Peachy” small pieces of dry bread crumbs flew from his lips. “Maybe I should just stick to the poorly salted soup.”

Dan was shocked, even Dorothy couldn't be so bad as to join forces with the Givers...Could she? He imagined her telling on Sam time and time again but the scenes were wrong, no, not even Dorothy would do such a thing. "Daniella, I don't think she would do something like that, not even her, she's just extremely distraught and she hasn't had the best of lives."

Kasey looked around at the ceiling, trying to think of how to describe Brywahr. Besides terrible, and unpleasant there wasn't much else. She was glad though that the new Receivers weren't too scared to talk to her. "It's a school really. It's very big, and we learn about outlandish science things" She made a face at the gloppy looking soup before her. "And, if you want to know the truth, it's horrible. The Givers, which are our teachers, are very cruel. They seem to always want to send us to punishment. We have to wear these uniforms" she squirmed in her long sleeved shirt. "It's hard to describe the whole place. Frankly, it's scary, but if you have friends to stand by you, you'll be alright" she smiled again, looking more at the girl who seem a great deal more frightened then the boy.

There wasn't much else to tell them. It was hard to describe what they learned. She could tell them about the halls and rooms, but that didn't seem to be what they wanted. And telling them her own hatred for the Givers, and wish to just sometime slap each one of them across the face, wouldn't help. She looked to Alder, wondering if her friend had anything to add.

Return of the Fountain Fellowship

Grace hesitated over leaving, then nodded resolutely. "Yes," She smiled uncertainly, "That's what I'm here for."

David's hands were clenched at his sides and his face was set in a frown.

"A moment, please?" Grace asked the soldiers.

One of them nodded shortly.

She turned to David and laughed, trying to be be lighthearted. "I guess I'll see you later! You'll be here, right?"

David slowly nodded. "If I'm not on duty. Where are you staying?" He knew he was overstepping his bounds and stepping on the toes of the security staff (who were obviously in a hurry) by prolonging the conversation, but he didn't care.

"Not sure yet," said Grace, "I'll try to figure it out and find you."

She was turning to go, but David reached out and quickly gave her a hug before she left-- and he whispered something to her: "You better have a really good explanation for this, Grace."

Then she left, and David was left looking out after her, almost as though he was in a daze.

"Oh, come on, the soup isn't all bad. It's better than nothing..." Stella said, looking down at her bowl, which had been hardly touched. "But if you're used to nothing, then nothing is better."

She glanced at the door and said, "What do you suppose Dorothy will do to Daniella? She won't let her get away with embarrassing her in front of the entire Academy like that."

Atom grinned when Stella said she liked her seat, and raised an eyebrow at her comment. His brown eyes sparkled with pleasure at the compliment, "How so?"
But right afterwards his cheeks flushed with embarrassment at Stevie's question. "Oh, uh, you heard that?" He fidgeted in his seat for a moment, chewing his lip as though indecisive about something, "It's just that... Well, I hate to sound critical, but-" he hesitated, then blurted out, "I'm just glad not to be sitting with Brownie! He gets on my nerves! He's such a Giver's Pet, and it drives me wild." He glanced shamefacedly at those seated around the table. "I know we should stick together and defend each other's backs, but Brownie does not seem one of us." He bowed his head in quiet grief.
Darek eyed him kindly but said nothing.

A few moments later Atom's attention was distracted by the shouting from Danielle. He and Darek watched in silence as Dorothy steamed by, and they exchanged looks at Stella's warning.

When Stella began to muse about Dorothy and Danielle's possible showdown, he leaned forward with a mischievous gleam in his eyes. "I dunno what she'll do, but I most certainly do not want to miss it!"
Darek gave Atom an amused smile.

Lilly finished her Soup, but the givers had not yet come to dismiss them so she sat there in an uncomfortable silence twirly her hair around her fingers (which were beginning to grow numb with the repetitive motion of it) and thought, about yesterday. I had somehow felt right when Brownie had placed his hand on her shoulder, like everything was going to be ok... b but would it? Was it even possible for anything in the place to turn itself around and become good?

"Unfortunately, Dorothy is a conniving snippet. She usually gets her way, whether you like it or not." Stella said. "She may not do anything now...She may wait to unleash her fury in a week or even a month...But when she does, there won't be a soul who doesn't hear of it."

Daniella said, "Oh trust me. The witch loves bossing us around. I hate her! I bet she flew here on her broom!" She glanced into the open, at noone. Darkness filled every inch of her body. It's war.

Stevie laughed. "I know exactly what you mean about that Brownie kid. I mean he's my friend and all, but the special treatment he gets does get aggravating. I hate to say it, but... I'm kind of glad he's not at our table."

Alder noticed Kasey's glance, and took the opportunity.
"Kasey's right. It is a bad place, but you'll have plenty of friends here to help you if you ever need help. And you're at a good table. We'll all take care of anything you need." She smiled at them.
Henry smiled at them all. "Thank you, everyone. We're just a little bit in shock at the moment, just arriving and all. I'm sure we'll be okay. We've been through much worse already back in our home world, and... we had Good Help through that." Here, he fingered a small book that was partially sticking out of his uniform's shirt pocket.

Lilly's excitement got the better of her shyness when she saw the little book.
"You have a Bible?(!)" She exclaimed in ecstasy "Mine got left back in the- where I came from." she caught herself from saying orphanage, she didn't need to bring that up. Her eyes fairly glowed with pleasure as the stared at the precious book. "This is wonderful!" she realized that they had no clue who she was so she said "I'm Leanna Rose, You can call me Lilly. I've been here a week now..." She looked at the Bible "You have a Bible..." The words came out almost like a whisper and her tone was full of reverence.

Henry was touched at how excited Lilly was about the Bible. "Oh yes, I have a Bible! I bring it everywhere with me. You see, back in my home world, I was a pastor. And by the looks of things, I guess I'll be a pastor in secret here too. I doubt that the Givers take any cares to guide the souls of the Academy to Christ."

Daniella turned to a frightened looking Tess, then sat down. "Sorry. I'm not usually like this. I just can't stand to see injustice, ya know?" She finished her lunch. "What I wouldn't give to go play soccer or go shopping and live a normal childhood, like one that slips my memories."

Ace bit his tongue as David and Grace said goodbye for now, and then hugged. She then left with the security forces, heading to the medical wing of the facility to speak with the staff.

David looked like he was in a mixed state of having seen a ghost, having been drug out of bed in the middle of the night, and then dumped in a bucket of cold water... in other words, he looked lost.

Ace put a hand on his shoulder, "Hey, you ok Dave?"

Jarien stared for a long moment at the girl standing before him with the drawn crossbow. He knew that he couldn't do anything about it, and he saw no other options for getting out of the situation. With his lips pursed tight, he sheathed the dagger and waved Adi away as she came up behind him. "What do you want? What is this offer?" he asked the stranger.

Tess was surprised by what Daniella said. She answered " you know, you remind me of my old best friend! She got mad when people were being injust." she was very happy at that moment fir finding what looked like a new friend, but she was also very sad at the reminder of her old friend.
