“Yeah, you’re probably right about Dorothy, Stella.” Will said, “Back when I was still in England, before I was taken to this academy, I had to stay with my two cousins who I thought were absolute imps, very snobbish. Then I was able to find something that we all liked and we hit off. But so far.” Will said turning his head in Dorothy’s direction, “I haven’t been able to do the same with her. Perhaps it’s just the atmosphere here.”

Daniella's eyes flashed at Dorothy. She took her hot soup and smashed it into Dorothy's face. "Don't you ever talk to me or my friends again you stuck up prude! I will not confirm to this life sucking place any longer! I will march up to TINWOMAN and tell that witch exactly what I think of her!"

David's smile faded. "We don't really talk about our past here. And it didn't really matter. It wasn't like I was gonna see her again," He turned to Grace, looking concerned. "Why are you here?

Grace's mouth opened in surprise, "I-- I was offered a job. I'm here to see the facilities...and-- and...." She broke off, suddenly feeling confused. "Well, this is awkward." She said aloud after some thought.

David began to smile again, "What, that I've caught you flirting with my friend?"

Grace looked at David indignantly and then began to laugh, pushing him with one of her hands. "No! I've been preaching to him if anything." She turned to Ace, still laughing. "You two work together?" She asked him.

"What's awkward, then?" David asked.

"It's just that-- they want me to work here. And they took you away." All amusement left Grace's face. "I don't think that..." She trailed off as a group of soldiers approached them purposefully.

"Dr. Cunningham?" The lead soldier asked, running a scan of her body with a handheld device.

"Doctor?" David echoed quietly.

"Yes." said Grace, giving them a measured look.

"The doctors at the medical building are looking forward to meeting you. This way, please."

"Dorothy! Daniella!" Dan exclaimed as Daniella smashed a bowl of soup into the other girl's face "If we fight like this we really will get sent to punishment or something, and while I thank you kindly for defending me, Daniella, it wasn't that big of a deal, if we want to stand against them we have to stand together and none of this is doing anything to help us towards that goal. Dorothy, perhaps I don't want to hold my utensils correctly, eh? Is it so hard to ignore what those around you may or may not be using the correct manners for?" Dan's quick flash of anger towards the Givers had by no means turned him against his hold on sanity and all he wanted was a strong group of people who could perhaps eventually show the givers exactly what they could do. "Please." Dan said "Can't we at least pretend to get along well together?"

Tess completely forgot about her question when she saw the soup bowl fly!! Then she had a different question she turned to look at everybody at the table and said loudly " What is this Punishement that your all talking about???? Please answer I NEED to know!!!!"

Daniella took a few breaths, as Dan tried talking sense into the both of them. Still fumed, she took her seat and muttered, "Blasted soup didn't even taste so good anyway. Still, what a waste on such a person." She jumped, at Tess' exclaimation. "It's the punishment you get for being alive, that's what."

~*~ Brywahr Academy ~*~

Dorothy jumped up and gasped when the soup hit her face. She stared at Danielle, fuming. Her face was red with anger and because of the heat of the soup. Without a word, however, she turned and walked away from the table. As she passed Stella's table, she said, "Stella, please keep an eye on Sam until I return."

Stella nodded as she watched Dorothy pass by. The blonde's curls were wet with the broth of soup, but the flashing anger in her eyes was what caught Stella's attention the most. She glanced across the room at Daniella and shook her head. To Will and Lyssa, she said, "That girl will pay for her deeds and will later regret them. To mess with Dorothy is not a good thing..."

Dorothy exited the dining room and walked toward the stairs. She quickly made her way to her room to change and clean up. Her fists were clenched at her sides and her eyes were narrowed angrily.

She watched Dorothy leave. This time Tess decided to talk to Dan because he seemed like he would answer the questions she had. " Um... Excuse me, Dan? Why are we here? What did I do to deserve this? Is this a joke or something cause it doesn't seem very funny?"

But Jack was in no hurry, and not about to give up. He followed Grace back, smiling disarmingly, and steadily trying to corner her. "Tsk Tsk Grace! Their very fine animals. They must belong to someone....important." he stared straight at her, simply ignoring her comment about closing and leaving. He had no intention on going until he arrived at the answers he had come to get.

Changes. Kasey never liked them. Especially in a place such as Brywahr. Usually it spelled trouble, or further work, or even the greater chance of landing in punishment. She smelled blood in the water, as you might say, and she disliked it.

The announcements before breakfast told of these changes, and even introduced new students. Kasey had no time to speak with the new Receivers, that is until she came to her table and found that both Greersons had been put there along with her, Alder, Lilly, and Brownie. Sitting down, she said to Alder "Kinda a crazy morning. Not so sure I like the sound of changes" Then sitting back up, she greeted the two new Recievers with a gentle expression

"Hi. My name is Kasey." She brushed some loose strands of red hair from her face "I know your probably scared. We all were at first. But soon you'll get used to it, and we can help you out"

She just wanted to be friendly. Brywahr was a terrible place, yes, but it could better when you had friends to stand behind you.

Brownie was a little nervous when he found out he would be sitting at the same table with new of the new Receivers. But he forgot his shyness when he saw that he had been assigned a seat next to Lilly.
At the table, all the others were already there.
“Hi, Brownie!” Alder welcomed him with a friendly smile.
“Hi!” he said back. Then he noticed Lilly. “Hi, Lilly!” he said. “How is your head?”

The entire morning, Henry and Janiece Greerson had stuck close to each other’s sides. They were frightened, but they knew everything would be okay if they could stay together. They had no idea if they had been assigned a good table or not, not knowing any of the kids. But the faces seemed friendly enough, unlike a lot of the others there.
At the table, a red haired girl introduced herself as Kasey.
“Thank you,” Henry spoke up, squeezing his wife’s hand. They had finally found a friend here. “I suppose we could use all the help we can get. What exactly is this place?”

If Daniella hadn’t tossed the soup in Dorothy’s face, Sam would have. For the first time, another Receiver had given Sam a shock, instead of the other way around. She stayed quiet. She wasn’t used to other people’s outbursts -- only her own.
She looked down at her fork, which Dorothy had been instructing her to use. Sam wasn’t going to use it. She spit at it -- something she did at whatever disgusted her -- and threw it on the floor. Next, she cupped her hand and used her other hand to wipe the spilled soup into her cupped hand. She started drinking it.

Kevin looked at his girlfriend Daniella in shock. “What’s up with you today?” he whispered. “You’ve seemed especially edgy to me all morning. What’s your problem? We’re all stuck here in this Academy, same as you. Some longer than you, I might add. You’re starting to act like Sam.”

Lyssa was secretly thrilled about the table she had been assigned. All the best Receivers at the same table as her, and none of the losers. She tried not to show her excitement though. She had a reputation of wanting to be left alone, and she wasn’t ready to give that up quite yet.
At the table, they were all talking about the new Receivers. Stella also mentioned that she thought the best people were at their table. “I can agree with that,” Lyssa said with a slight chuckle. She began thinking about how those two new Receivers were married, and was reminded of the conversation she’d had with Stella last night. “You think their marriage was arranged,” she mused, “or did they pick each other?”

Stevie was disappointed not to be able to sit with Alder, Kasey, and Brownie. She didn’t know the people at her table that well.
Two guys sat down with them -- Darek and Atom according to her seating guide. The smaller one, Atom, seemed pretty bouncy and mischievous to her, and she couldn’t help smiling at him. She saw him glance over at the table where her friends were sitting, then he gave out a sigh of relief.
“What’s up?” she asked him.

Daniella laughed, as Sam cupped the soup to her face and started drinking it. Then, she turned to her boyfriend. Even though she did not know how she had exactly been edgy towards him, she was afraid to ask what he meant. She lowered her head and mumbled, "Sorry." She looked back towards Sam, feeling for the girl. She had been sent to punishment too many times, whether she deserved it or not. Then, she wondered what Dorothy was going to do. Was she going to tell on her?

"I don't know." Stella said, taking her eyes off of Sam and looking at Lyssa. She glanced at the young married couple. "They seem pretty comfortable with each other, yeah?"

"I can understand being betrothed at that age, but married? That's an entirely different matter..." she added, playing with her food more than eating it.

Dorothy lifted her wet hair from the basin and wrung the water out of her newly-washed curls. She dried them as best as she could and then she changed.

All the while, she was mumbling her plans of revenge. Judging by the look in her eyes and the anger in her voice, they would not be pretty.

"Hello, Brownie" Lilly said a little nervous to be speaking when there were so many people here that she didn't really know "I'm fine this morning my head doesn't hurt." It was a lie and she knew it, but she wasn't about to tell him that as Dan would put it 'It hurts like the dickens', there was no use saying that because then they would all start feeling sorry for her and that was the last thing she wanted. Besides it was really nothing to worry about by tomorrow morning she probably wouldn't notice it was there.

Lilly curled the end of a strand of hair around her finger while she tried to decide whether or not to say hello to the two new people she knew how they felt she was still feeling mostly the same way, they were scared and lost and worried to death that they wouldn't come out alive but it was even worse for them because they were worried about each other as well. but she just didn't think she could make herself speak, instead she fixed her wide violet eyes on the girl and offered an encouraging smile the her and then to the girls husband.

Dan Looked at Tess for a moment before replying, she looked so scared and the worst part was that what he was about to tell her wouldn't help one bit. "Tess, none of us really know why were here and we will probably never know. You have done nothing, nothing to deserve this and neither have any of the rest of us. You're right it would be a pretty cruel joke- if it were one- but it's not, so all we can do is make the best of what little freedom we do have at the moment and be a civil and friendly to one another as we possibly can. Please understand me that if I could find a way to get you and any one else out of here, even if in the process I would get killed, I would take it, but the problem is... there isn't a single way to get out... for us it's impossible." He hadn't realized that the last part was true about killing himself to get the others out, but it was, what was one life to hundreds that might be saved? he turned to Sam who was drinking out of the palm of her hand, he stood up and walked around the table and set his hand on her shoulder. "Sam?" he asked to make sure she was listening "I know it's hard, but for now, we all need to stick together, and if that means bending to Dorothy's every whim, that's what we'll have to do, all right?" he hoped that this wouldn't cause a violent outburst "We can do it together, her looked around the table at the other three, we all can."

Daniella's eyes flashed with anger. "How could you say that , Dan? She's a bully. You want her to have power over us? Stand your ground! She's probably on the side of the Givers for all we know!"

Ace mostly stood back and just listened as the siblings bantered back and forth over the situation. He smirked when David commented on her 'flirting' with him and shook his head at the joke. David always did like to poke fun.

"Preaching is right, and she's good at it" he said to David, then, "Yeah, we work together" he said in answer to her question.

He looked up as a group of soldiers came from the building, they wore the armor of the lab security staff, and halted next to Grace. They called her 'Dr. Cunningham' and David seemed genuinely surprised. Ace wondered what she was a doctor of...

The guards informed her that the medical staff were waiting to meet with her, and motioned for her to follow them. Ace stayed quiet, being of a different branch of the military, he couldn't say anything anyway. He glanced over at David to see his reaction.
