Lilly's wide violet eyes grew wider when Brownie Told her that's he'd been the one to save her, and she tried to offer an extremely thankful (and possibly a bit more) sort of smile but the muscles around her mouth barely twitched. "I don't mind," she said shyly "but... what happened? where are we?" she had no recollection of ever being in this room before, but then... she'd only been at Brywahr for a week.

Daniella dashed down the hall, to get some wather for lilly. Luckily, she was able to sneak a cup of water form the cafetaria and made her wasy back to Lily's room quietly. She handed the cup to Lily. "Here."

"I don't mind," she said shyly "but... what happened? where are we?" she had no recollection of ever being in this room before, but then... she'd only been at Brywahr for a week.

"We don't know what hapenned," Brownie told her. "I found you in the hallway with a big gash in your head. You're in Dan's and my room."
He turned to Dan. "No, I... I can't remember anything. It's all just as foggy as before. I don't even know what I did or how I did it..."

"Well, I suppose it doesn't matter for the moment at least." Dan said "What matters now is what exactly happened to our friend here... Lilly? do you remember anything at all about how you happened to be lying on the floor with a gash on the side of your head?" What Dan wouldn't give for something to laugh about at this particular moment.
"no," Lilly said as she tried weakly to shake her head "I don't remember a thing except that one moment I was lost trying to find my room and the next everything was black and may head hurt-"
Dan interrupted to say "Like the dickens I'm assuming, eh?"
"Yes, it hurt, and then I remember someone lifting me up... but I thought it was a dream. I'm assuming it was one of you, wasn't it?" Lilly remembered the dream and decided not to mention it, nobody here needed to know about her past, noor would they care. "And then I woke and up and- well- here I am." suddenly she realized how much she had said, she hoped she hadn't over done it and made a fool of herself again, her face flushed scarlet, and she closed her eyes in embarrassment. After a while she opened them again to ask a question of Brownie "Do you think you could get someone to go to my room and see if my dove is alright? I'm worried about her, she hasn't been fed all day."
Daniella hander her a glass of water. "Thank you, Daniella. I'm extremely grateful." her eyes showed her just how thankful she was that the people who hardly knew who she was were helping her like this.

Kasey had been about ready to jump to Alder's assistance, when Nan's voice rang down the hall. The Wild Girl, ended her flurry of screams and yells and even responded to the older girls voice.

Almost like a big sister, or a surrogate mother, Nan stood above them all. Sweet and kind, but with an air of authority. She was the eldest besides the Givers, and each of them looked up to her. She spoke softly to Sam who's mood and temper neither softened or waned. She staid in a rage, her wild locks of hair every where. Kasey, didn't know what to think of her. In class she had almost been admiring her, now, after almost attacking one of her friends she just couldn't decide. She was wild

Sam's words about horses, running wild, gave Kasey an idea for a drawing. A field, of beautiful strawberry-red horses running freely, with a tall fire haired girl running along side the Stallion at the head. Yes! What an emotional drawing. She decided that would be her next piece. Nan's words though, to her, and the other girls around her snapped her back to reality.

Alder and Stevie spoke for her and the rest, after that Kasey touched Alder's arm. "Maybe we should go to my room now....before something else happens"

Daniella smiled, glad to help. "Anytime. You want me to go feed the dove?" She also wondered if there was a chance the four of them could escape from this awful prison of a place. She glanced around the boys' room, remebering the healing touch Brownie had earlier. "You close to finding out about your past, Brownie?"

Stella was just about to reach for her book when the knock on the door resounded. With a little roll of her eyes, she said, "Intrude."

Dorothy's blood ran cold when she heard Miss Tivvens voice. However, she placed a smile on her lips and turned to face the Giver. "Certainly." she said as she followed Miss Tivvens.

“I was the one who carried you,” Brownie replied. “How are you feeling? If you need anything -- anything at all -- just ask.”

Alder nodded at Kasey. “Good idea.” She looked at Nan one last time. “I sincerely hope you find Lilly. I’m sorry I couldn’t be more help to you.”
Nan smiled. “It’s alright. Thank you.”
Alder followed Kasey down the hall, Stevie following them.

Lyssa opened the door to Stella’s room. “Hey.” She held up the ribbon. “I found this outside your door. Thought it might belong to you or Dorothy.”
She spotted the book Stella was holding. “Hey -- I’ve read that book! Isn’t it great? I have the two sequels to it in my room, actually. Is this your first time reading it?”

Tivvens ushered Dorothy into her office, and motioned toward a chair for her to sit in. Then, she closed the office door. Tivvens sat down at her desk, and stared at Dorothy intently. “A great honor is about to be bestowed upon you. You are to be a Guide. Have you ever heard of this?”

“I was the one who carried you,” Brownie replied. “How are you feeling? If you need anything -- anything at all -- just ask.”

"Actually," Lilly said "I'm felling fine now, my heads just hurts a bit." She touched the side of hear head and grimaced, "It's nothing, really." she used her arms to push herself up so she was sitting on the edge of the bed, "I just want to get back to my room..." She blushed ever so slightly "And thanks... For everything." She reached to tug on her braid but then realized that it would probably hurt her head again so she let her hand fall limply back down to her side. "Daniella?" she asked, "do you think you could help me find my room? One again, I'm afraid to say that I quite lost in this place."

Dan had by now lost interest in the conversation and he was staring blankly through Lilly head at something he was trying to remember, or was it something that he was trying to forget? maybe he didn't want to remember those days before the Academy after all...

Daniella said, "I sure will." She helped the girl to her feet, letting her lean on her. "Ready?" She wanted to help and not push the girl any further than she needed. She tried walking with her evenly. "Let me know if i'm going too fast."

~*~Brywahr Academy ~*~

"Oh, hi again." Stella said as Lyssa entered. "I thought you were one of the younger Receivers or Dorothy..."

She held up the book and tapped the cover. "I hate it. And love it."

Then, she suddenly asked, "Were you surprised when Vienna married Demetrius' brother? Right after he pledged his undying love and died for her sake, too. Horrid little twit, she is." Tossing the book onto the bed, she clutched her hands in front of her chest and sighed. "This, unfortunately, is one more reason why I shall never fall in love."

Dorothy sat perfectly straight in the chair. When Tivvens spoke, Dorothy nodded, her blonde curls bouncing. "I know a little about it, yes."

Kasey took both girls to her room, which she shared with another student. The door was unlocked, naturally, and she came in without knocking. She knew the other girl she bunked with wouldn't be in. She never was. That was fine with her though. She mostly had the desk to herself, and the quiet atmosphere helped her imaginative mind run wild with her pencil and paper.

She flopped down her books and slid onto the deskchair, sliding out the second drawer down. With a mysterious twinkle in her blue eyes, she turned to Stevie and Alder "Ready!?"

Brownie looked worriedly as Daniella took charge of Lilly. “Oh do, do be careful!” he cried. “Are you sure you wouldn’t rather I take you, Lilly? It’s not that I don’t trust you, Daniella. I just don’t want anything bad to happen to her.”

Lyssa sat down on Stella’s bed, the ribbon still in her hand. “I know, wasn’t it awful? That’s the thing about those books -- some of the things that happen in them irritate the death out of me, and yet I can’t put them down. I was hoping that Soyara would marry Demetrius instead, she loved him so much. But --” she shook her head regretfully -- “you know how that goes.” Then Lyssa’s expression changed. “Why would it stop you from falling in love?”

Alder nodded at Kasey with wide eyes, nearly clapping her hands in her excitement, as her friend was about to reveal her latest creation. That was what attracted so many people to Alder -- if there was something you were excited about, she would get just as excited about it -- if not more -- than you were, just because she was your friend.
Stevie, standing next to her, did not act very excited. Not that she was bored or annoyed either; just indifferent. She liked Kasey well enough and had often declared her to be one of the nicest, sweetest girls in the Academy. But Stevie was the sort of girl who didn’t get enthusiastic over things that didn’t involve her directly. You mustn’t blame her for it though -- it comes from being born in the sort of world from which Stevie came.

Tivvens smiled. “Good. For the next three months, you will be with this Receiver, teaching her our rules, our ways. You will act as tutor to her, and give her the lessons we tell you to give her -- and in the manner we instruct you to present it. You will teach her to behave if she misbehaves. And if she does not abide by the rules while she is under your care, you will receive double the punishment she receives. This is for your benefit as well as for hers. In a moment I will give you your last instructions and send you off to find her. But before I do so, do you have any questions?”

Stella took the ribbon from Lyssa and walked toward Dorothy's vanity. "I wouldn't like to have a broken heart..." She set the ribbon down, and then suddenly turned around. "Actually, on second thought, maybe I would. I could wear black and refuse food and drink."

Stella looked up and nodded resolutely. "Maybe I will fall in love." She looked at Lyssa, shrugged and chuckled.

Dorothy became stoic as Tivvens spoke. When the Giver was done, she gave a slight nod. "I understand. No, I don't have any questions."

Brownie looked worriedly as Daniella took charge of Lilly. “Oh do, do be careful!” he cried. “Are you sure you wouldn’t rather I take you, Lilly? It’s not that I don’t trust you, Daniella. I just don’t want anything bad to happen to her.”

Lilly Looked at her feet and then up at Brownie's face, surprised to meet his eyes which were filled with concern.
"I-" Lilly said bewildered (why would anyone care for her safety? hadn't he already gone out of his way to help her? why did he not look angry at her for already disrupting hid day?) "I- You can come if you like..." Once again she noted her French accent which sounded so strange in this place. "Do you really want to come? Why don't you hate me, after all, I messed your whole day today." she clapped a hand over her mouth, heat rose alarmingly in her pale cheeks and her eyes widened. What have I done now, she thought, she hadn't intended to say that, it was bound to make her look like the stupidest oaf that ever there lived.
