Hold your horses there, chap" Dan said "I was only teasing, and you're right, she is very pretty, those violet eyes do the trick I believe, even if she is short." he joked "Of course you're worried that you've offended her, but, think of it this way... she's had an awfully hard week, you know coming here isn't the most wonderful thing that's ever happened to any of us. Just give 'er a bit of distance fore a while, while she recovers from the shock of it I mean." he gently punched brownie's arm, kindness in his eyes. "Come on ol' chap don't you think you're making a bit to much out of this?"

Daniella rolled her eyes. "Knock it off Dan! Of course he's upset! And I think is concern is sweet" She grabbed Brownie's arms. "You don't have to listen to this. " She turned to Dan. "And quit being a jerk!"

Dorothy set her brush down as she heard Stella sniffle. "Please don't tell me your sick..."

"Sick?" Stella said with another sniffle. Dorothy looked in the mirror only to see Stella staring at her, book open on her lap and tears streaming down her tanned cheeks. "No, I'm not sick!"

"You're crying, then?" Dorothy stood and faced Stella. "Oh, this is rich. Stella, the strongest and bravest of them all...crying like a child."

"Oh, Dorothy, you have no heart! You would be crying too if you just found out your favorite hero was sent to be burned at the stake and left his love nothing more than the promise that he would love her until he breathed his last, dying breath and even longer than that, if he could." Stella sighed, placing a hand over her heart. "And, of course, I only know that his love will die in the next chapter from a broken heart..."

Dorothy laughed as she walked toward the door. "Well...I hope you finish it before I get back, so I don't have to hear anymore about it..."

Dorothy opened the door and left Stella to her book. She glided down the stairs in a most lady-like fashion and began looking for the very handsome boys that called the Academy home.

"What do you mean, Daniella?" his tone was hurt as he felt, "What have I said to make you take such offense, you aught'a know by know that I meant know harm by any of it, why would I want to hurt brownie? he's my dearest friend besides the fact that he about the kindest fellow here" He patted Brownie on the shoulder "I didn't offend you, did I" he asked worriedly.

I have to agree with Daniella on this, Dan! How can you say these things -- even in joking? And to call her short! She is small, she is delicate, she is - she is - perfect! And as for her violet eyes 'doing the trick', that is possibly the worst thing I ever heard come out of your mouth! 'Doing the trick'! Her eyes are beautiful because they show into her pure, innocent soul!" he had so much to say against Dan, he didn't even know how to say it all.
He sighed in frustration and sat down on the floor.
"The more I think about it, the worse it gets in my mind. If I hurt her..."
He looked up at Daniella. "I have to make sure! Which way did she go?"
Without waiting for an answer, he took off down the hall.

-------------------------

After looking down several hallways, he couldn't find any trace of Lilly. He wished he knew which room she was in.
Brownie described her to a few students he ran into, but none ever said they had seen a girl who matched the description.
He ran down hallway after hallway.
Then... there she was... on the floor.

(((OOC: Weird, a character named Dan and a character named Daniella, haha)))

"Wait! Brownie! I'm sorry! Wait!" But Dan knew it would do little good for brownie had already darted off and probably didn't even hear him. "Daniella, what have I done! I've gone and offended my best friend." He growled at himself a bit and tortured every word that had previously come out of his mouth, "Do you think we should go see if we could help him find Lilly?" he looked down at his hand and sighed... What have I done now? He imagined hims lonely existence without his dear friend, sighed a second time and waited for Daniella to respond.

"Lilly!" Brownie screamed in horror when he saw the girl's limp figure on the ground. He rushed to her. She still had a pulse, and was breathing normally. "What hapenned to her?" he wondered.
Brownie picked her up to carry her. It was a good thing she was "short", as Dan said, otherwise a small boy like Brownie couldn't have gotten her off the ground. As it was, carrying her was no trouble for him.
But where to take her? He didn't dare take her to a Giver for medical help -- it would only get them both (well, maybe not both ) in trouble. The Givers would most likely only pretend to give her medical attention, when in reality they would be doing something else to her -- something sinister and terrible. And who knew what that would be? Sick children were often never seen from again once they were taken into the nurse's office.
Brownie looked around. All the nearest rooms had been closed and locked by the Recievers inside them, and no one heeded Brownie's calls for help. The only place he could think of was his own room, two hallways down.
Brownie ran as fast he could, making sure he had a firm hold on Lilly.
On the way, he saw Dan and Daniella. He motioned with his head for them to follow.
Once inside, he gently and tenderly placed Lilly on his bed, and turned to the others. "What do I do? I don't know what's wrong with her!"
He stood for a moment, his mind racing. "Daniella! Get me a cup of water from the bathroom, please! And Dan, could you find me a clean cloth? I need to stay here with Lilly, and make sure she's alright! And please, do hurry!"

~

Nan walked closer to the wild girl, who was now sitting on the floor, her tangled hair covering most of her face.
She looked at Sam, both authority and kindness showing equally in her eyes.
"Girl," Nan spoke calmly. "Why do you do this?"
Sam's face twisted into an ugly grimace. "Because against my will have I been brought here -- here to this dark pit, this grim wasteland, these cursed hallways of torture!" She spit angrily at one of the hallway walls.

Quick to act and so to bring Lilly back to the waking world, Dan hurried down the hall to where he knew the nearest linen closet to be. 5, 6, 7... He counted the numerous seconds it took to run back with the cloth, he was lucky it had been the last one on the closet, 10, 11, 12 there was the door to Brownies room. Dan hurriedly pushed open the door and handed the towel to Brownie.
"Do you think she'll be alright?" he asked worriedly, "She looks pale as a ghost, where did you find her?" he looked closely at Lilly's head. and then back at Brownie. "Good god," he said "Look here, she bleeding. "He pointed to a place on the side of her head nearly hidden by her braid.

Ivorianna Eboness watched as The Wild Girl flew from the room, her read hair streaming like fire behind her smooth, tanned face, they called her the right thing, The Wild Girl, her eyes flamed and the girl did nothing to hid her fury as the attacked all in her line of sight, smashing and thwacking that which she could easily reach. and then, as if in calm before an even worse storm, she stood, stalk still before her viewers, hate spilling from her very heart and soul. Such hatred as Ivorianna had never seen before.
When Alder addressed her her calm broke like a twig trampled on by a large beast and she flew at the other girl in a rage that could not be matched by even the most furious of warriors. Ivorianna was releaved when Nan stepped in to calm the girl, her natural authoritative presence was comforting on the whole. All would soon be well. Or so Ivorianna hoped.

"Ugh!" Stella said in an exasperated voice as she slammed the book shut. "How horrid!"

She placed the book behind her pillow and stood. "Poor, poor Demetrius must be rolling around in his grave!"

Lilly lay prone on the floor, and for a while if felt as if she were looking down on herself but that soon went away. as she drifted off into complete unconsciousness she felt the vague sensation of being lifted from the ground and carried swiftly away, she tried to open her eyes and ask what was happening but she could not stir, and so she let her self slip away again...
...As she slept she imagined herself to be back at the orphanage, the headmistress was screaming at her and slapping her face for being clumsy and dropping the dishes that she had been washing. it felt so real, perhaps- perhaps the academy had all just been a dream. it was a bad dream, and she still had the chance to run away from this awful place, maybe she could find a house that needed a nanny, or a maid?
The headmistress punched the side of her head and it began to throb. everything before her sleeping eyes faded away into black oblivion...

Brownie looked in horror at the wound on his beloved’s head. Suddenly something came over him. He rushed over to a chest of drawers in his room and pulled out a strange looking kit which had been found in his pocket back when he had first arrived at the Academy years ago. Using the contents of it -- and this was very remarkable -- he applied a solution to the area, and began stitching up the wound.
Since Brownie could not remember anything of his home world, no one -- including himself -- knew who he had been or what he had done. He had obviously done this before. He fixed Lilly’s head with such an art, it would make any of the best doctors of our world envious. And yet, his expression showed that he was in such a daze, he didn’t seem to notice anything he did.
Until afterward.
Once he was finished, and Lilly’s head was healed, he stared in shock at what he had just done. “How…how did I just do that?”

Lyssa, after retrieving her book, was walking down the hall back to her room. Then she stopped outside Stella’s room.
There was a long ribbon lying on the floor outside the door. She figured it must belong to either Stella or Dorothy, and she knocked on the door to give it back to its owner. Lyssa waited for a reply.

~

Nan smiled tolerantly at the girl’s outburst. “We are all here against our will. It has been hard for every Receiver here -- just as hard as it is for you now.”
“No!” she shouted. “The others are not like me! They did not come from my world! My world was a world of freedom! We slept where we wanted, we traveled where we wanted, and we were as untamable as the wild horses!”
Nan bowed respectfully. “It is hard for you. But there is nothing that can be done. No one knows if there is any way back to our home worlds. And now, like us, you must abide by the Academy Code, or else harm will come to you.”
“Never!” Sam shouted fiercely. “If they kill me for being what I was born to be, then I have died well.”
With a sigh, Nan replied, “Then, there is nothing more I can say.” She turned to Alder, Stevie, and Kasey. “But I came here for another purpose than to speak to Sam. I came, looking for you.”
“For us?” asked Alder.
She nodded. “I am searching for the girl Lilly, and, since you know many students here, was hoping you had seen her.”
Stevie’s eyebrow arched up. “Lilly? Yes… yes, I think I saw a girl named Lilly talking to Brownie just a little while ago.”
“But I’m not sure where she is now,” answered Alder with regret. “Why are you looking for her?”
“I have been assigned to her,” Nan replied. “Have you forgotten that all new Receivers are assigned, within their first week, someone to be their Guide and tutor for three month’s time? A Giver told me this morning that I was chosen for Lilly. A Guide is given to every new student. Likewise, a Guide will be given to Sam.” Nan sighed. “I am sorry for the unfortunate soul that is assigned as Guide to this wild girl Sam.”

~

Tivvens, returning to her duties after exiting the Hall of Prismel, walked down the Academy halls. Her eyes rested on Dorothy. Just the Receiver she was looking for.
“Dorothy!” she commanded. “Step into my office immediately. I have an assignment for you.”

Dan stared at Brownie in shock "How-" he started to say just as Brownie said “How…how did I just do that?” Dan looked down at the girl laying on the bed and responded "I don't know, but wherever- whoever you learned that from, I'm awfully glad that they had the sense to teach you that!" and then Dan thought of something, which he promptly put into words "Brownie, you know what this means, don't you? this is a clue... a clue to your past!" He had enough sense then to keep his voice lowered, so as not to disturb the sleeping Lilly, "Do you think that you could remember more if you tried?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lilly was suddenly aware that she was no longer laying on the floor but on something rather soft and comfortable. she could hear a voice speaking excitedly. She wanted to ask where she was but her head pounded and she didn't want to say something stupid, especially if it was the Givers that she was hearing. She slowly opened her eyes to find two faces peering down at her, one of them belonged to Brownie and the other to a boy that she had seen but didn't know a name to. were they the ones who had saved her, then? she knew it must be so, for otherwise she would probably be surrounded by Givers.
When Brownie saw his Lady was beginning to stir, he rushed to her side. Dan's question would have to wait until Brownie was sure his Lilly was okay. "Are you alright, Lilly? I-I fixed your head for you...I...hope you don't mind."
Mentally, he rolled his eyes at himself. What a dumb thing to say. Of course she wouldn't mind someone saving her life...
