Who should play Jadis, the White Witch?

Cate Blanchett would be my #1 choice but I'm not sure how realistic that would be.

If we went with someone younger, what would you all think of Elizabeth Olsen? Or Yael Grobglas?

@Eustace, I really like your recommendation of Rebecca Ferguson! She is one of my favorite current actresses (she was wondering in The White Queen mini series) and I could totally see her being The White Witch!

She needs to be cold, yet fiery when necessary. Hopefully that makes sense.

YES! I really like so many of the choices you have said. I think Emily Blunt would be good. I love the idea of Cate Blanchett.

Emma Stone as The White Witch.

Wouldn’t that be an outrageous choice?

I’ve seen her in most films as playing a cute girl, but I’ve seen one or two films she’s in where she’s not cute. And more intimidating. And amoral. And well, sporting a perfect British accent. I think if she were interested in the role, she could play a younger White Witch than we’ve seen, like, ever. A young tyrant who kills her people rather than give up the thrown. A person who throws away what little humanity she has in order to remain young forever. And in between MN and LWW, becomes less human and more of a monster. It would be interesting to say the least if Emma Stone actually got the role.

Emily Van Camp could also be a good choice. Or Emily Blunt!

I don't think I've seen Yael Grobglas in anything, so I can't attest to her acting, but I could see her portraying Jadis in a physical sense if she looked a little less youthful. I know she's thirty-one, but she looks too... sweet and innocent maybe? haha

I know Cate Blanchett has the ability, but my fear is her history as Galadriel. People will probably start playing the "Narnia trying to be Lord of the Rings" tune again XD

Now, Elizabeth Olsen? YES. Unfortunately, I'm afraid of scheduling conflicts :/ she does have a show for Disney Plus coming up and I assume it will monopolize a lot of her time in the near future. But I can totally see her playing the cold, heartless, yet beautiful and manipulative Jadis.

Has anyone mentioned Keira Knightley? I feel like that was brought up somewhere, but I can't remember and I don't see it on this thread XD

Edit: my dad just dropped a name and I was instantly on board. Anne Hathaway.

@Monty Jose - Yael Grobglass is on the show Jane The Virgin, spoiler alert! ---->

Ack, good catch with Cate Blanchett, I didn't even think about that. Yeah, kind of ruins it for me. Eek.

When I think of Anne Hathaway, I think of her in the Alice In Wonderland movies and it's hard to take her seriously now! :(

Now that Netflix has announced they are being more budget conscious, I’d say it’s safe to assume the casting for Jadis will be a relatively unknown actress. Probably someone who has more television history as opposed to film.

Perhaps they’ll be thinking of someone like Adrianne Palicki (Bobbi Morse in Agents of SHIELD, Commander Kelly Grayson in The Orville). I’m not saying she’s my top choice, only that someone along the same vein is more likely as opposed to Daisy Ridley or Emily Blunt.

Emily VanCamp would be a good choice. She was excellent in the show Revenge.

Vanessa Kirby... Make it happen Netflix.

I wouldn't read into that too much. Narnia will have some recognizable names attached to it, especially for its adult characters.

I just stumbled across this petition to cast actress Katie McGrath as Jadis in the Netflix Narnia series: https://www.change.org/p/netflix-cast-k ... czZQ%3D%3D
The petition has 106 signers so far, which is kind of interesting. The reasoning for this casting choice is as follows: "Katie McGrath has played Morgana le Fay in the wonderful series Merlin, and also played a lead role in the first season of Slasher. You can also see her in Supergirl, Dracula, Jurassic World, and King Arthur: Legend of the Sword. She has a natural charisma, stunning good looks, and the perfect acting chops to play the White Witch.

One only needs to watch the entirety of Merlin to see how beautifully she can play someone who slowly becomes an evil tyrant, while still remaining extremely likable to the audience. While casting may be some time away, I highly recommend the creative folks at Netflix at least consider her for this role when the time comes. I believe she would be absolutely perfect."

Is anyone here involved with this petition? What are your thoughts on Katie McGrath as Jadis?

I'm not involved with the petition, but I could actually see Katie as the White Witch.
I think she could do well with the subtle complexities as well as the intimidating and charismatic presence that Jadis had in the novels.

What are the subtle complexities of Jadis? She's a pretty standard evil witch/queen character. (Well, maybe one with more muscles than most but I don't see that as a complexity.)

That's totally fair :)

I guess I've never quite seen her as standard evil queen...partly because of just how much power and control she has, how many options she has, and her motives go purely beyond terrorizing a bunch of woodland creatures and not letting them celebrate Christmas. Not only does she control Narnia from a political standpoint, but she's got the deep magic which gives her power over Narnia, and everyone in it, from a 'spiritual' (for lack of a better term) perspective as well - which ultimately ends because Aslan was a willing victim, and because of the Deeper Magic, he had truly been one step ahead all along.
I've found her to be rather unpredictable, which I think Katie would do a good job of capturing.
