@icarus depending on lots of factors, I may or may not watch it. I haven't got Netflix, there's no IMAX near me, and I will wait for everyone's reports.
There, shining in the sunrise, larger than they had seen him before, shaking his mane (for it had apparently grown again) stood Aslan himself.
"...when a willing victim who had committed no treachery was killed in a traitor's stead, the Table would crack and Death itself would start working backwards."
I've finally taken the plunge and voted for Meryl Streep. Aslan to me is the one absolutely vital ingredient of all the Narnia stories, and if an adaptation doesn't get HIM right, it just won't be Narnia for me, no matter how well done everything else is. And portraying Aslan as female, or as outwardly male but with a female voice, would definitely go to show that the makers of this version just don't "get" Aslan.
Overall, now I think about it, that would be more off-putting for me than any of the other possible changes. The 1950s setting runs a pretty close second, but I could just about live with it if it somehow makes sense in the context of the film. And as I've said before, too, I could accept gender swaps of some other characters (like a female Fledge). I wouldn't even object to a feminine portrayal of the divine, in a different fantasy world. But in Narnia... no. I'm still clinging to the hope that it was just a false rumour (one that Netflix foolishly left to fester instead of correcting it) all along.
"Now you are a lioness," said Aslan. "And now all Narnia will be renewed."

Meryl Streep. Not so much because I object to it, but because I know the vast majority of other Narnia fans will object to it and I want the franchise to succeed.
Even though it's not my preference, I think a female Aslan could work. But I also know that for many it's a deal breaker, especially since Aslan is also literally made out to be Jesus in the Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
Hand's down Meryl Streep. None of the other issues come even close for me.
This concern was heightened even more for me today when I was chatting with one of my homeschool mom friends. She is a big fan of the Narnia books and really enjoyed the Walden movies (including VDT I think). She was completely unaware this project was in the works, so I sent her two links, one was the What We Know page....
https://www.narniaweb.com/netflixs-narnia-what-we-know/
...and the other was the top 25 stories of 2025....

Instantly she wrote back and said if Meryl Streep was cast as Aslan's voice, she really had no interest in the Netflix movies. So I continue to believe that if they pursue that role, they'll lose out on a lot of fans. Will they be able to make it up by attracting people who might like the change? I dunno....kind of doubt it.
I would love to see Meryl Streep in Narnia as a voice actress for Mrs. Beaver or another female character but NOT Aslan. There are so many talented, luscious voiced male actors who would fit the role as CS Lewis intended. They probably don't want to use anyone from the 2005 movie but maybe Idris Elba or Benedict Cumberbatch.
