I was listening to the latest podcast episode, and it got me to thinking. What truely bothers me the most? What would I undo if I had a magic wand or a genie with one wish left? It's not what I hate the most, but what would make the movie the most like what I want it to be? What would be the best change if I had the ear of Netflix?
What are your thoughts? If that one thing was different, how would your perspective on the movie change?
For me, I think it is the 1950s setting. I dislike a female Aslan more, but going back to the original time period would settle me the most and make me feel like it was still "The Magician's Nephew." It would also give me hope that "Hey, maybe this one is rough, but the next one in the series might be better."
For me, the choice was between Meryl Streep and the expanded English plot line.
The expanded English plot line looks like it will need to take liberties with the characters (Digory most of all - given he is riding with Jadis, rather than trying to transport her back to Charn.) It may have a reasonable explanation, but it feels like it could change the heart of the story. Is Digory working with Jadis? Has Digory lost his ring? Is Jadis’ scene in London going to be a big, action spectacle? It’s really the only thing we know anything concrete about and it is going in a different direction from the book.
but I had to go for Meryl Streep as Aslan. I’d love to see Meryl in several other roles, but it’s really hard to imagine Aslan - who is the heart of all of the stories - faithfully portrayed by Meryl. Unless Meryl does a miraculous job of portraying a male lion with a deep, wild voice, I feel like this decision would sink the credibility of the project.

Great idea for a thread! It's also hard to properly judge, considering we have so little context for a lot of these choices, but some of them I'm actually okay with / excited about.
For now, I ended up voting for modern music. If the film ends up having big musical numbers from popular artists playing over key scenes in Narnia itself... It's hard to imagine it not breaking the immersion of exploring other worlds.
"Tollers, there is too little of what we really like in stories. I am afraid we shall have to try and write some ourselves." - C.S. Lewis
I don't feel I can vote for any of these as something I'd change, since as Impending Doom says, we have so little context for most of them, and in some cases we don't even know for sure what's happening. "Meryl Streep" would probably be the thing I'd change if it had been absolutely confirmed that she is playing the voice of Aslan, but it (STILL) hasn't been. Other than that, the 1950s setting is the second most uncomfortable thing for me, but we don't know how they're going to work that either. We also just don't know anything about the "expanded London setting" except that apparently there's a swimming pool in it somewhere, and a character called Mr Potts, and reportedly some sisters for Polly.
Basically, almost everything we've heard about this production so far — most of it frustratingly vague — has made it sound like it will be drastically different from the actual story that C.S. Lewis wrote. As I've said before, I will watch it at least once if I possibly can, just so that I know what I'm critiquing, but it's sounding more and more like something I won't find very enjoyable, even as a film in its own right, let alone as an adaptation of Narnia.
"Now you are a lioness," said Aslan. "And now all Narnia will be renewed."

I agree with @courtenay on this one. At this stage I can't fully vote for any of them. There are a few concerns I have with some of the things listed, and probably the main one I would be inclined to vote for is the Meryl Streep one, but even that one I know so little about and may end up being okay with the arrangement she may or may not be in. All the other issues for me at this stage remain relatively minor as long as these things aren't big enough to change the whole story - even the 1950s setting.
*~JESUS is my REASON!~*
@orsha me too. If it was set in the right period, all the other stories could be, no matter what music there is or how Aslan sounds.
There, shining in the sunrise, larger than they had seen him before, shaking his mane (for it had apparently grown again) stood Aslan himself.
"...when a willing victim who had committed no treachery was killed in a traitor's stead, the Table would crack and Death itself would start working backwards."
I voted for the 1950s. We don't know who at this time is Aslan and as long as He is still a Lion, His Voice can be dubbed over. The only thing that truly haunts me day and night is the 1950s setting. To me it just ruins the feeling and atmosphere of the Magician's Nephew. I feel like also, if they got the period thing right other things would not be so bad. Although, we know so little, I feel like other things would have to change if they got the period thing right. Right now, and probably until we watch the movie, it is going to be the thing that I will be thinking about the most.
Right now, I feel like it'd be the "modern" music thing. I feel like that's going to be like an annoying beeping noise in the background of otherwise well-done scenes.
I suppose I should vote for Meryl Streep as Aslan but, similar to what Glumpuddle said in a recent podcast episode (not the most recent, the one before that), it sounds so ridiculous that I can't quite believe they're actually going to do it or if they do it, that it'll be as bad as it sounds. So I'm weirdly not as worried about it.
It's sad that there are so many tempting options in this poll.
For better or worse-for who knows what may unfold from a chrysalis?-hope was left behind.

I do agree @courtenay and @Pete
Ultimately, I may see the movie as a whole and think all of these work well in coordination, and to change something wouldn’t result in a better movie. Some things in the list could still be different than we think. I was thinking about how negative so many choices sound, and trying to think if there was one in particular that was making me feel most apprehensive. Phrasing the question this way helps me zero in on what is my biggest news item.
I voted for Meryl Streep since I do not want a female actor to play Aslan. The 1950’s time setting and modern music were also poor decisions. It seems that Greta Gerwig is not interested in producing a really accurate movie that is based on the book.
I voted for Meryl Streep for obvious resons as well as the fact that when I first heared about it I did not know it was a rumor so it literly made me cry espesialy being some what new to the narnia books and just finding out the ways they messed up on him before. though I don't see what they think they are doing considering the fact that LWW was set around the 1940s.

I voted Meryl Streep because the unknown Aslan situation has been the most ongoing concern. I'm now tending to think Aslan will be male in appearance, but continue to worry about him having a woman's voice, even if it's layered up (don't know the correct term there!).
However, as other people have said, other options are not ideal, either, and I did have to give it an extra think before I made my final vote.
I've heard plenty of people say they won't watch the movie if Meryl Streep is playing Aslan, yet I've heard zero people say they won't watch the movie because it's set in the 1950s.
Therefore that feels like a pretty clear answer to me about what's worth changing most.
