There, shining in the sunrise, larger than they had seen him before, shaking his mane (for it had apparently grown again) stood Aslan himself.

Many many moons ago when I was a young teen, (exaggeration only slightly as that was the '90's) there was (and still is) a group called the AD Players in my area. They had a stage play of the LWW. I remember seeing it on the kid's stage where they rarely had more than 5-7 people on the stage and it was circular so they kept the props simple. It was a great way for imagination to take over and fill in. I'd love to see Logos' version, but I'll always remember that version.

It took a few years' legal negotiations for Logos to get permission from the USA playscript powers that be, to stage their own script.

The powers that be had said they counted as Amateurs, and had to use the approved script for US amateur companies. With so many professional staff and graduates of their Academy of Arts involved in productions, their argument was hard to agree with.

In October 2024 they got permission to present their own script. Immediately they announced it would be touring.

I was asked by Glenwit if I'd written a review of Logos's LWW which I saw recently at Taylors, their home base theatre. This is probably the best place to post it, now that I've written it.

I helped with front of house (ushering etc) and was thus able to watch all the 11 performances I was there for. The first few times saw me with tears running down my face, especially in the second half (the very first time, particularly, but then I was sleep deprived and slightly jet-lagged). Every time I watched it, I yearned for more.

The script was very close to the book, the characterisations were very true to what Lewis created, and the use of ensemble to move smoothly from scene to scene was really good theatre technique. Having seen Logos's HHB twice, and watched lots of video clips from Logos online, I thought the puppet work was excellent but perhaps it didn't amaze me as much as it might amaze a newcomer. I did like the two bird characters worn/flown by one similarly costumed actor each, as well as the more traditional bird puppets held in the hands of their actor. The use of creature heads on top of actors' heads, when playing wolves, was effective for the movement and characterisation. I won't describe some of the really special moments with puppetry and costume, as that would really be 'spoilers'.

Although I knew how the Aslan puppet worked, I was almost never distracted by his puppeteers. Every first appearance, every scene, every resurrection, this was Aslan the Lion, the King. He was beautiful, majestic, loving and powerful. The emotion I felt every time was "Glad", a mix of joy and wonder.

Knowing that most of the cast had been on tour for months of 2025, playing up to three shows a day, I was aware how fresh they made each performance. Nobody was 'going through the motions', or 'phoning in a performance'. They were on the button, every time.

I flew from New Zealand to see this, because I knew I would never get to see it unless I travelled to USA. It was worth the travel and the cost, very much worth it!

I echo your thoughts, Coracle. So glad you got to see it. And glad it was worth it.

@coracle Oh wow... I wish I could have seen that too. THAT is what the world needs more of — adaptations of Narnia by people who actually "get" it. (And who especially "get" Aslan.)

"Now you are a lioness," said Aslan. "And now all Narnia will be renewed."

@courtenay I know you would have loved it. It is honest, funny, sweet, brisk, relaxed, and heart-clutching by turns.

We have a long history with this theatre!  (I don't recall seeing this eight years ago!)

Watching these Branson videos with all these familiar faces and costumes, I feel like I'm right back there!

Wow, wow, wow!!! From all those two videos you posted @coracle - as you wrote, they really get Narnia and get Aslan as it and He should be portrayed, don't they. Love

I so wish I could afford, not only over to go to the US and see it, but to see it with my family also!

I do think the production that I saw of LWW in Melbourne back in January of 2003 would have been at least equal to (or maybe even surpassed) the Logos production in terms of the puppetry, but in terms of really portraying it right, I wouldn't be surprised if the Logos production probably outdid/outdoes the production I saw - that said it was a pretty faithful adaptation also.

*~JESUS is my REASON!~*

@coracle Oh wow, that is clearly one INCREDIBLE production!! Definitely put together by people who truly understand these books and what they mean. As opposed to that other production of LWW that I saw in London in 2019 (and which has toured here a couple of times since), the whole point of which seemed to be that Narnia is weird and wacky and zany and fantastical — not that Narnia is a world where the battle of good versus evil takes place in a way that calls on children from our world to play their part, and a place where you just might meet the One who is there to save you and the whole world, to turn wrong to right and make sorrows to be no more, in a way that nobody else can.

I'm afraid I still find it very hard to believe that the makers of the newest Narnia movie "get it" at anything like that level.

"Now you are a lioness," said Aslan. "And now all Narnia will be renewed."
