Logan looked Brian over, trying to decide whether he liked him or not. He shot out his hand for a handshake. "Hey, Brian."
~~~~~~~~~~
Emmy's eyes brightened, if only slightly. "I love writing." She was kind of glad Jen would be with her in class; even though she hated meeting new people, she was beginning to warm up to Jen; at least a little.
Brian shook Logan's hand, firmly gripping it "Hey. Nice to meet you. New in town? I can kinda tell" he said trying to judge what type of boy he was. He shrugged and turned back to Peter "You weren't at the locker Pete. Oh I wanted to let you know if you wanted to shoot hoops this afternoon I'm free. My Mom canceled a bunch of appointments. I got my ball in my locker"
Maralyn smiled "She's have a beautiful voice....she is beautiful" she said and again kissed her baby's head. The little baby played with her mother's hair, grasping the dark locks. She smiled and looked up at Justin "Do you want to hold her...?"
When Milania pulled up in front of Justin's house she chuckled "What does he do for a living?" she asked skeptical.
"He's a youth Pastor" Ian said getting out and going to the door.
"Sure" Abigal said finishing up dinner "What movie?"
The last thing Logan wanted was to be known as the 'new kid', so he inwardly cringed when Brian said he could 'kinda tell'. But, he let it slip past. "Yeah, I just moved here." then Brian invited Peter to shoot hoops later, and Logan immediately spoke up. "Well Pete and I were going skateboarding. Right Pete?"
Peter wondered how he was going to work this out. Logan had already asked to teach him to skateboard but he was friends with Brian before Logan. He silently asked God what to do, since he's always been a misfit and hadn't really had this problem before. "All three of us can hang out. We can shoot hoops, take a break and learn to skateboard and go back and forth." He hoped it would work, that he would be able to hang out with both friends at the same time.
Justin put an arm around his wife. "I would love to."
Amanda suggested "Prince Caspian."
Maralyn reached out her arms, which cradled Sarah, for Justin to take her. He did, gently, and she laid back onto the bed resting her head in the pillows. A slight sweat stood on her fore-head, and she closed her eyes resting silently as Justin admired his baby daughter. She peaked once at him and fer before falling into a light sleep.
Ian rapped his knuckles twice on the door waiting quietly for an answer. When he received none he knocked again, thinking now that maybe he wasn't home. Seeing no car in the drive he strode back to Milania's 'stang and slipped in "Not Home...I'll call later"
Inwardly chuckling she drove off down the street "Now for our date" she smirked "I'll pay, but you get to drive me home"
"Deal" he said and kissed her hand, staring up at her smooth face with his dark piercing eyes.
Brian looked skeptical but slowly agreed "Sure I guess." he said, beginning to not like Logan.
"Oh sure. I love that movie" she said and laid back on the couch comfortably
Logan's mouth twisted slightly, not quite liking the arrangement. But there wasn't much he could say against it. "Yeah, I s'pose that would work..."
While in Creative Writing, Jen and her emmya wrote a few writing sketches. The assingment was for a person to write a word and to give it to their partner. Their partner must write a word for them and a story based on that word. Jen gave Emmy the word, "really"
In English class, Peter sat in between Brian and Logan, hoping he could find a way for them to like each ohter. But how? The way they tlaked sounded intesnse.
Justin asked, "Can I get you anything?"
Emmy wrote out the word ‘Fickle’ on a sheet of paper, and passed it to Jen, just as she received her word: “Really”. She thought about it for a moment, her pencil hovering over her paper like a hawk getting ready to descend. Really… really what? Then it came to her.
Really dark. Not just usual dark, like the sort that lurks at the back of a closet, or the kind that develops when one closes one’s eyes. This dark was really dark; more than just the absence of light, it was nearly the absence of life and existence…
She looked at what she had so far. She wasn’t sure where it had come from, but it felt right. She continued on, delving deeper into her idea.
Logan sat down in English class, listening to the teacher absent mindedly, but thinking more about the two boys sitting to his right, wondering what would happen that afternoon. He wasn’t sure he liked Brian muscling in… after all, Logan had asked to hang out with Peter first, right? After a few moments, he stopped contemplating it. There wouldn’t be a problem, he decided. He could handle a bit of competition… and anyway, this would give him a chance to show off his basketball skills. Time to pay attention to school.
Brian thoughtlessly wrote out the questions and assignments on the paper in front of him, most of his teachers words going in one ear and out the other. Most of his thought process were on Logan that 'new kid'. What right did he have to come butting in? After all he had just moved in....he was NEW. Brian and Peter had been friends for longer. Wasn't it his right then to hang out with him? He sighed and shot Logan a look returning his eyes back to the papers. He looked at the random scribbles of questions he had written out and disgustedly erased them trying to remember what she had said.
"Mhmm..." Marlayn said stirring then looked up at Justin. "what was that Justin?"
Abigal pulled a blanket down over her legs and settled down to watch the movie. She felt peaceful, her mind was clear and her thoughts happy.
Ian gawked in amazement as they pulled up in front of restaurant she had described "It's better than I thought. How do you ever afford these type of excursions?" he excited the car shutting the door.
"I have ways..." she said and hooked her arm in his "But you haven't changed a bit Ian...your the same"
"I wouldn't guarantee that Milania..." Ian responded "I'm going to church next sunday..."
Peter noticed Brian was upset and frustratedly scribbling papers, while Logan looked as if he didn't know to be smug or angry. What was the deal? He chose both. He already agreed to being with Logan this afternoon, but wasn't going to say no to his best friend, Brian either!
Jen gazed at the word Emmy gave her. Fickle.....
She wrote "Little mary was so fickle," then stopped there. What to write?
Kayla just walked upstairs and saw a girl who looked to be a sophomore. "Hey, Can you show me where Ms. Benson's room is?"
Rosamunde looked up and smiled. "Oh, sure."
She adjusted her book bag as she led the way. "You're Kayla, right? I've seen you around town a few times." She smiled and flipped her blonde hair behind her shoulder. "I'm Rosamunde, but you can just call me 'Ro'. It's a lot easier on the tongue." She chuckled.
Kayla smiled innocently. a"Such a pretty name. Where did you get the name from?" she asked, after finishing taking notes for her assignment.
Kayla smiled innocently. "Such a pretty name. Where did you get the name from?" she asked, after finishing taking notes for her assignment.
Rosamunde laughed. "My parents didn't think a normal name would suffice for their first child. So, I was named Rosamunde, after my great-great-grandmother."
Logan stared at the quiz in front of him, absently brushing the corner of his paper with the side of his thumb, so much that it was beginning to bend upward. He’d read the first question three times now, but didn’t have the answer yet. What did he know about some British chick named Jane Austen? Nothing! He was sure his sister Emmy would know. And he would probably know too, if he had been paying attention fifteen minutes earlier – but he couldn’t help it; his mind had been over-viewing exactly which maneuvers he’d perform on his skateboard later, to show to Peter and Brian. He’d also started wondering at some point whether or not Brian could skateboard; the topic hadn’t come up, and there was a chance that he could. What then?
Of course, it didn’t matter. Logan would be better. He grinned slightly as he thought about it; he actually started to hope that Brian was a skateboarder, just so he could outdo him.
And then he read that question again. Drat. Think, Logan, think!
------------
Emmy read over the short writing she had just completed. A few paragraphs about darkness and loneliness; she hadn’t intended to write such a dark piece, but the words had just seemed to flow. These were the sort of things that made up most of Emmy’s odd little stories; not all, but most.
She brushed a strand of her hair behind her ear, and looked around the classroom. Most pencils were still scratching away, while a few others were already finished. Emmy scrawled her name at the top, and set it down on her desk.
