I confess that I was lost in confusion for the first 10 or so mins. I've seen many of the classic episodes and all of the reboot episodes but A Good Man Goes to War still seemed very scattered and fast-paced (at least towards the beginning). When they slowed down the episode, I enjoyed it more, I think. The dialogue was great, the music was awesome. Lots of familiar faces too. Not the best episode of the series but an impressive effort, all the same.

I'm hoping the second half of the season will show exactly

A Good Man Goes to War:
I wasn't terribly surprised by the River=Melody reveal. I knew going in that Amy named the baby Melody Pond. It seemed fairly obvious. But I am happy that my previous theory that River was a Time Lady somewhat proved true. Since we've seen Melody regenerate way back in the second episode, I'm now wondering why River didn't regenerate in the Library. I guess it's possible that the Alex Kingston River is the last regeneration and that's why she didn't. If this is the case, I'm hoping we don't run into River in a different form for awhile since Alex and Matt have absolutely fantastic chemistry.
I'm guessing that the Silence are not the ones behind all of this plotting, that they're just working for the true Big Bad who will be revealed in the finale in the fall.
RE: River and the Library:
Trivia note: I've received email reminders from amazon for the DVD set for Series 5, and announcing the release of Series 6, part 1 on July 19. My, that was fast.
Booky, I quite agree with your first spoilered paragraph.
Having said that, I can see the attraction if they've come up with some death scene for Rory that they just can't resist using (something like the one written for Spock at the end of Wrath of Khan. At least they were able to get him back in the next movie).
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
Please note that this Special Feature will be closing on Thursday, June 30 ... for a time, but do not fret, as it will be re-opening when the season resumes. In the meantime, the Television topic is available for Doctor Who-ness.

Thanks jo.
One last thought...an earlier post mentioned that the reruns on BBC America are shortened so more commercials can be added. (I noticed this during the Memorial Day marathon - some of the more interesting tidbits from series 5 (such as Amy remembering the stars) were omitted.
A way around this, at least for those who have it, is that Series 5 and series 6 to date are available On Demand from some cable providers (like Comcast) - uncut and commercial-free.

I thought it was made pretty clear that

...aaaaand Doctor Who is back!
Doctor Who, Series 6, Part 2, will be returning with Let's Kill Hitler this Saturday. Anyone else excited?
So, what have you been keeping up with during the long break in between halfs? Have you had time to finally digest and absorb the incredible events of the first half season? How do you think this series is going to end?
I can't wait.
Yay, it's kinda ironic because right after this thread closed, my friend finally got through to me and I started watching Doctor Who... I kinda watched all 5 seasons of the new series in the time the SF went on break
I'm trying to get to watch the first part of season6 before Saturday, but so far I've only been able to find the 'Impossible Astronaut' online, for free, and didn't come from a sketchy-looking website (I'm too impatient for it to come in at the library ). However, I know the spoilers of 'A Good Man Goes to War' so I might just try and watch the next episode on saturday
Apart from that I've been giving the spin-off shows and the classic series a try. I'm in the middle of 'the three doctor's' at this point, but I gotta finish it soon cuz the library wants it back. As for Torchwood and the Sarah-Jane Adventures, I kinda got turned off from Torchwood when the first scene I watched was

Ha! I knew
I thought "Let's Kill Hitler" would involve a lot more....Hitler.

I am so
I have some structural issues with this episode:
River:
I was pleasantly surprised by just how much info we got on River in this episode. Now we know who taught her to fly the TARDIS, who she kills, why she didn't regenerate in Library, and even why/how she became an archeologist.
Anyway, I don't think it's humanly possible for me to love a character more than I do River right now and I really wish they would give Alex Kingston her own spinoff. It'd be more fun than what they're doing with Torchwood this year.
And Matt Smith remained equally as awesome. To think I was actually skeptical about his casting. I'm quite ashamed of myself. Karen and Arthur were fantastic as well. I think the duo of Rory and Amy are quite quickly becoming my favorites of all the NuWho companions.
I watched my first Doctor Who episode today. Two episodes, actually -- Rose and The End of the World. I'm watching them in order.
I saw those same episodes (in part) a long time ago and didn't like them at all, then. But now I'm loving them. I can't wait to watch more. And I'm especially excited for when I finally get to see the Tenth Doctor. I've never seen David Tennant act before, but have heard that many people love him.
Since I'm new to this show, I had a question. How is it for content? I saw stateofgreen had some objections to it which she made a few pages ago, but she wasn't specific. And how bad is the... How do you say it? Freakiness? Keep in mind, this question is coming from the same girl who still isn't quite sure if she's okay with reading Harry Potter (Because of the Wizardry/Magic in it). I'm not sure where I personally draw the line morally when it comes to content in stories, so everything is kind of up in the air for me when it comes to any show or book. And I was wondering what kind of stuff Dr. Who has in it.

Doctor Who's content? It has some violence, mild language, a few adult themes and some creepy moments. That's about it. It's a very weird show though - but good!
