I'm not listening...lalalala! ;))

I was surprised to see that BBC America offered 4 hours of Doctor Who content last evening. I was away from home but recorded it for later viewing - probably tomorrow.

1- "Doctor Who Rewind" - a recap of series 5 (probably much like the recap episodes LOST aired before each season began).
2- "The Impossible Astronaut" - a repeat of last week's episode.
3- "Day of the Moon" - episode 6.02
4- "Doctor Who in America" - behind the scenes info about cast and crew filming in the US.

Any comments about these other episodes? (Spoilers please!) :)

Updates: I enjoyed the series 5 recap as a summary of some things I hadn't seen, as well as reminders of others. A few of the lines in "The Impossible Astronaut" made more sense to me this time.

These 2 episodes together were very good. Very clever way to

Spoiler
'out' the Silents to everyone. Funny, I don't recall that scene the first time I saw Armstrong step onto the moon. ;)

Trivia note: In "The Impossible Astronaut"

Spoiler
the older Canton is played by William Morgan Sheppard - who had various Star Trek roles as well as some voice work in Gargoyles - and younger Canton is played by his son in real life, Mark Sheppard.

Bookwyrm, regarding your spoiler,

Spoiler
Schrodinger's Cat is exactly what I thought of when I saw Amy's pregnancy results. ;)) My inner science geek popped out there.

I wonder if

Spoiler
the little girl is Amy's daughter as well. Any thoughts on that final scene? I had a stray thought that - while the Doctor's normal regeneration cycle was interrupted in last week's episode - an eventual female incarnation of the Doctor would be a really interesting twist.

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

Spoiler
That's the point...because it's a Silent, you forget that you saw it as soon as you see it. You'd only remember you've seen the clip if you saw a Silent again. So clearly, the Silents must have left because I haven't seen any...I think. ;)

I had a thought about the identity of the mysterious little girl:

Spoiler
What if she's Susan? She's running around in 1969, which happens to be the year the first season of Doctor Who aired. It would be an odd coincidence to have two completely different young Time Ladies running around Earth the same year. Moffat has been including little nods to the old run of the show, so that would be a cool way to tie the two runs together.

Spoiler
I seem to be in the minority, but I thought that the tardis scanner did give a definite result, but we just didn't see it. I think Amy is probably pregnant, but I really hope not. I hate the idea of a pregnancy already. The two are really young still; why can't they just be happily married on the tardis without a baby for a while?

I enjoyed the newest episode, and the Silence were a great enemy, but there were so many plot holes.

I would actually be excited if

Spoiler
Amy was pregnant but I don't think she is.

Boy, do I ever feel like I’m late to this party!

But I love Doctor Who too. Here’s my story… just before Christmas a friend showed me the first NuWho (what a handy term, by the way) episode and I was hooked. I mean, mannequins shooting at people with their hands? Fantastic! I've burned through the series, and I've just finished season 4. It was the accents that really pulled me in though. I could listen to those actors read the phonebook or zoning ordinances for hours on end!

I’m intensely loyal to the characters, so I met each story/casting change with skepticism and deep mistrust. But I have to say, so far I’ve liked each doctor and each companion. Though Donna wins the favorite companion contest hands down!!! A few weeks ago I saw the season 4 finale, and I got goose bumps when the, well, “human doctor” incredulously told Donna “You think you’re not worth it!” and his subsequent little speech to her. Wow, I think many people struggle with the same feelings Donna has, and it was very insightful of the writers to craft her character that way. And Donna was perfect, just what the series needed... just what the Doctor ordered, if I may use the phrase.

I haven’t seen the newest doctor yet, but I’m not sure how he could beat out Tennant, but everyone says he’s great so I’m keeping an open mind.

My favorite episodes are… um… well, the ones with Donna stand out in my mind, the first one with her where she is a bride, (it was sooooo refreshing to have someone nagging at/yelling at the Doctor instead of pining away over him) and the one with the Adiposians had me in stitches, where she and the Doctor have their reunion in mime!

Once I finish the David Tennant specials I’m going to dive into season 5. I can’t wait to see what the new actor does with the character!

BBC America is playing the first 3 episodes of series 5 today, including the arrival of Matt Smith as the 11th Doctor, introducing Amy, a trip to "Starship UK" as well as the reappearance of the Daleks in WWII under Churchill. (Also included is the scene portrayed in Gymfan's avatar. "Who da man?....Not using that anymore.") Fun stuff.

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up! The music raffle will end on May 15th! If you haven't gotten your FAQ post in yet, do it before then so you can be entered to win two tracks from the Series 5 soundtrack. :)

In other news, how did everyone like "Curse of the Black Spot" tonight? I quite enjoyed it; it was a nice change of pace from the heavy stuff that we've had for the last two episodes, but still interesting enough to keep me watching.

Spoiler
Poor Rory, though. They keep killing him off! Really, Moffat, that stopped being funny a LONG time ago. Sadly, I don't think this is the last time we're going to see Rory die this season...what number is this for him again? He got turned to dust in Amy's Choice, shot in the Hungry Earth two-parter, blown up in Big Bang 2, "shot" by Canton in Day of the Moon and drowned in Curse of the Black Spot. Anything I missed?

I liked the new episode, Gymfan. Fun to see the series' sci-fi-type twists on some familiar ideas from

Spoiler
pirate lore, such as the siren, treasure, and the black spot itself. Agree about Rory though. While it was nice to see Amy's affection for her husband, I was pretty sure the CPR was going to wake him up...perhaps to die again another day, as you mentioned. ;))

And

Spoiler
I couldn't help drawing some loose parallels to the VDT movie...a stowaway related to one of the characters, and a 'shiny' extraplanar-type creature (either the Siren or Liliandil) making an appearance.

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

I was watching 'The Today Show' this morning and they had a special segment on Doctor Who where Meredith visited the set and got to be a special guest star. (playing a news anchor! ;)) )

Interesting bit of info there! IMDB indicates that Meredith will appear in episode 6.13 (no episode name listed yet), currently scheduled to air October 8. The credits there also show that

Spoiler
Winston Churchill and the Silents
will be in that one.

(The IMDB episode list shows a gap between June 4 and September 3, when no new episodes will air).

Yes, the Today show segment can be seen here: http://blogs.bbcamerica.com/anglophenia/2011/05/09/watch-today-co-anchor-meredith-vieira-visits-set-of-doctor-who/

Also, June 4th is the "Mid-Season Finale" I believe. New shows will resume in Fall.

(Today Show hosts used the term "guest star" but I believe it will be nothing more than a very small cameo.)
