PLEASE tell me that someone else has seen "The Impossible Astronaut"!

I just now finished watching it and all I can say is wow... This one is definitely one of Moffat's (if not THE) creepiest episode ever. It's even creepier than "Blink"

I'm still on an adrenaline rush from the episode, but I will stop talking now until other people have had a chance to see it.

See the armies so arrayed,
Line on line, ten thousand strong.
See the Dragon King’s sharp blade,
Rising to a song!
See his enemies laid low!
Hear our voices sing:
Let glory crown the victor’s brow,
In the Hall of the Dragon King!

I can't watch the new episode for another hour and 20 minutes!

I have yet to watch the new Dr. Who, but I discovered tonight that there are several Sarah Jane Adventures Audiobooks on iTunes for $4.95. :D I wanted some audio books to listen to at work and thought I might get one, but I was able to get 3 for that price! :D

I just finished watching the episode School Reunion, and there she was! Sarah Jane herself! Great episode, although I'm thinking it might be more enjoyable to the old fogies like myself :)). And K-9 was in it! I was trying to explain to my wife (who surprisingly has taken a real liking to the show) who K-9 is and how thoroughly awesome he was/is...it was extremely cool seeing SJS and K-9 again. Makes me wonder if we'll ever see Romana someday...she was great too, and a Time Lord like the Doctor (wouldn't it be great if she survived the War too?).

K-9's one of my favorite characters from when I was a little kid back in the 70's ;))

Also, I see there's a Torchwood program that seems to be a spinoff of the base Dr. Who series...when exactly should I start watching that? The reason I ask is because they mention it a great deal in the Dr. Who series and I'm wondering if it's one of those deals where I should wait to a certain point should Torchwood have plot points that might spoiler something in Dr. Who later on...thoughts?

Shadowlander, Torchwood is much more ummm adult than even Doctor Who. It doesn't have a lot of spoilers. I would say that Doctor Who has more spoilers for Torchwood than the other way around. I've seen a few episodes, but am extremely careful about what episodes of Torchwood I watch because of what they deal with and some of the storylines.

School Reunion is one of my all time favorite Doctor Who episodes. Seeing Rose and Sarah Jane laughing like crazy when the Doctor comes into the room and then they just laugh harder is a great moment.

Speaking of laughing. I found tonight's episode good for several giggles. It also had some interesting twists.

I've only seen a few episodes of Torchwood, and I believe that the Doctor is mentioned a few times by Jack, but the Doctor's never seen. It might be helpful to watch all of the first season of the new Who since it explains a few things about Jack that may otherwise be confusing in Torchwood.

other than that, Torchwood is pretty much a standalone series

Torchwood is more explicit edgier scifi. Eg. if Dr. Who were rated PG, then Torchwood would be like PG-13 or (for me) even rated R. Maybe because I'm really squeamish and have a 'moral' sensitivity about what I watch. Some things in Dr. Who have made me squeamish at times. I don't have a personal tolerance for Torchwood and most of the subject matter. I could only handle watching a few episodes to see what it was about and then stopped watching. Dr. Who is more 'family friendly' (though at times even Nu-Who has been scary and had questionable subject matter, but that's just my personal opinion).

Ok; I've seen it. :D

Very, very cool. Not much I can speculate on since this is clearly "setting" up a much bigger story, and I've read lots and lots of spoilers so I want to be able to keep my facts straight.

Spoiler
To those who didn't read any spoilers before seeing the first episode...what was your reaction to the event about ten minutes in? :p ;)

Loved the banter between the TARDIS crew. River fits in so well now; I'm happy she's going to be in S6 more. And of course, love Amy and Rory. And Eleven; well; he's superb as always.

I've tried to get into Torchwood, but I've gotten a bit bored with the first season. I saw the Children of Earth miniseries and liked it a lot, though. It was really good, and I think I might just watch the new series and worry about getting caught up later.

I have a lot of thoughts about the new episode, which is really quite frustrating because I know it would take forever to write it all. ;)) So I'll just say that I really liked it, a lot. I just love that both Amy and Rory are companions.

Spoiler
I'm worried about the doctor! If they just showed the end of the Matt Smith era I'd be okay with that, but I don't want that to be his actual death! I'm sure they'll have a way to get around that, though.

I really want it to be next week already. It looks really cool, and very creepy.

Torchwood is rated MA15+ in Australia, which is the equivalent of a heavy US 'R' rating. I haven't watched it before but the rating details include strong sex references/sex scenes, strong violence and language. :-s I think I might avoid it (and also because Captain Jack annoys the stuffing out of me). :P

complete and utter shock, gymmie ;))

I could NOT believe that that had just happened. tonight's episode certainly had me on the edge of my seat throughout the entire episode and I cannot wait for next week to come.

Doctor Who's already screening in the US? Not fair? No love for Australia? We've been following the series since it first began in the early 60's!

Seriously, how does Steven Moffet come up with these monsters and how does he ever manage to get to sleep at night? ;))

Spoiler
If the Silent aren't nightmare fuel, I don't know what is.

Great episode though. Loved having River, Rory, Amy, and the Doctor all together having adventures. Also enjoyed having Mark Sheppard in the episode. I think he must guest star in pretty much every genre series around, so it's about time he was on Doctor Who.

Spoiler
I suppose I should have anticipated the Doctor's apparent death. His antics were exactly the sort of thing the Tenth Doctor did before his death.

Was it just me or did this new episode look ... not exactly sure how to put it, but more high budget? Like they were using different cameras or something? It looked more like a film and less like a TV series. The CGI looked much improved to me as well, especially the you-know-what scene at the lake.

More in depth commentary on the first few minutes of the newest episode...

Spoiler
I wasn't really surprised that the Doctor trusted himself with the other envelope. Think about it... a sudden jump of 200 years in age, the way the older doctor treated River when previously he could barely stand to be in the same room with her, and the fact they brought River back so fast. Classic setup for a "shocker".

The death scene was interesting, but he won't stay dead and history will rewrite itself... why? It's Doctor Who. ;))

I do like the western gunslinger look for River.

I think the reason I found the episode good for giggles in places is because of the way it was setup. It was also interesting watching the companions know more about the future than the Doctor. It's a bit of a turnabout since the Doctor's usually the one who knows more.

Oh yes... is there some chance that Amy is or one day will be River?

Also... the Doctor has repeatedly said that he can't cross his own timeline and yet they send him back to 1969? Ummm... He and Martha ended up in '69! Continuity issue?
