So anyone get to see The God Complex yet?
I really wish Rita had survived. I wouldn't have minded her being a companion, even if only temporarily. And I thought for sure that Rory's snarky line about notifying the next of kin meant that Rita was going to survive.
Anyone else get a The Shining vibe off of the setting of this episode? It had that similar feel, old hotel, creepy events, monsters, etc. Loved it. Very atmospheric and well shot.
Opinions on what was in the Doctor's room? I vote the Valeyard.
If I were unspoiled as to whether or not Karen and Arthur were signed on for next season, the final bit with the Doctor leaving Amy and Rory might have actually had an impact on me. But knowing they'll be back next series made the scene a bit irritating for me; it felt like they were trying to wring some cheap drama out of a fake-out goodbye.
My thoughts on The God Complex:
Also, you could see the Doctor seriously considering his death, so I think this was quite valuable to the season plot.
Thoughts on the Doctor's room: I vote that he saw all the people who have died because of him: his species, past companions, even good people that he may only have known for a few minutes. I truly think he's terrified of facing that. That's part of the reason he keeps running.
About the goodbye at the end .... Bookwyrm, do we know for sure that Karen and Arthur are signed for the whole seventh season? Cuz if they only make a few cameo appearances, this is still a genuine goodbye. If not, then I agree with you. The emotion was rather pointless.
Why do you guys think Rory didn't have a room? Does he not have faith in anything? Or is there literally nothing that scares him anymore? (I find that hard to believe; everyone is scared of something.)
And, speaking of faith, what does the Doctor believe in? When Amy asked him what Timelords pray to, I had a flashback to The Satan Pit. Back then, he believed in Rose more than anything else. Now, though?
What do you guys think?

I agree about Rita....
What do you guys think?
I think that Rory almost
had a room....when he started talking about next of kin notification...and seemed to stop himself in time when he looked at Amy LOL.....maybe he controlled his thoughts enough so that a room wasn't accidentallly created for him....he and Amy have certainly suffered enough already without them dying again in this episode!
I do not think the Doctor believes in anything or anyone....which just emphasizes his being a sad and lonely character...
The ending goodbye with Rory and Amy would have had more oomph if there had been enough development in the other episodes to lead up to it...plus the fact the episode's true meaning can only be seen in the sum of the parts of this series is a drawback....we know Rory and Amy will pop up again before Series 6 is over.
I miss the plain standalone adventures of Doctors 9 and 10 and episodes when the Doctor just accidentally lands on a planet and the adventure isn't engulfed by the overall series arc. I also still do not like the idea that Rory and Amy never got to raise Melody/River as a baby....and they seem to be weirdly okay with that so it's soured some of this series for me.
A Doctor Who SF? How did I miss this? I've been absent from NW for far too long! I am a huge Whovian, despite the fact that I'm American. I only started watching the show toward the end of Series 4, but I loved it so much I quickly went back and watched all of the previous episodes to air since the show was rebooted in 05. At first I was the only person who I knew (other than on the internet) who watched the show, but I've been amazed at how many Whovians I've met (or found out were always fans) since then. I may be partly responsible for hooking a few people too.
So far I've really enjoyed Series 6, though I'm quite a bit behind... the last episode I saw was Night Terrors. So I'm avoiding all those spoiler boxes above, ha ha.

Ok, this weekend, I got all caught up with season 6 up to "Let's Kill Hitler" and hopefully this coming weekend my friend will be nice enough to let me go back to her house again and watch the other episodes
I drafted a spoiler post on what I've seen so far of the season, but looking back now lots of it would just be repeating what's already been said, so just a couple (mainly) question and (a few short) comments:
- Impossible Astronaut and Day on the Moon:
- I agree with starkat, there's not enough strange off-world adventures!
- Just a random question:
- Good Man Goes to War:
I know I had more to say than that, but it got swallowed by a crack, and I'll re-post it when the universe reboots

"The God Complex" -
Some other thoughts prompted by spoilered comments from starkat and stateofgreen:
And though these episodes are well-written, I also miss the time-travel/interaction with past figures. I was reminded of this earlier today when I watched the rerun of "The Unicorn and the Wasp," in which the Tenth Doctor and Donna visit Agatha Christie in 1920s London. It's a murder mystery ("Professor Peach in the library with a lead pipe" ), but it often manages to remain rather light-hearted ("The butler didn't do it!"; the Doctor's charades game when he's trying to rid himself of the cyanide) - and it offers them some real interaction with Christie as she and the Doctor together solve the mystery.
So I'd also like more of these historical ones...but in this arc-heavy season they might come across too much as fillers or one-offs (but I'm not sure that would be a bad thing, as long as they're well-written). [/ramble]
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
I loved The Unicorn and the Wasp! Hilarious and good use of a historical figure in my book. My hope for Series 7 is that now they have most of the stuff wrapped up (hopefully) with Rory and Amy that they now seriously just have to write more historical or one-off adventures before Matt Smith leaves. There's story gold to be mined with him and they aren't taking full advantage of it....
And if they just tried to make next series not have the same huge arc that can only be understood with having all of the episodes together that would be a great load off of my mind. I practically have to draw a chart to understand all of the timelines...

Yeah, I agree with stateofgreen. Much as I love the long story-arch, I miss the fun episodes with known historical figures. The ones with Winston Churchill, Agatha Christie and Van Gogh were great.
They could've done so much with the whole Hitler thing, too! After all, in real life nobody ever found his body .... that's just rife with implications of a meddling Doctor ....
Mmmm ... so Karen and Arthur
Edit: I almost forgot the reason for this post. I was gonna ask you guys - if they do start doing more historical episodes, what people from the past would you like to see? I think a story with Einstein would be soooo fun. Just think of all the possible one-liners!

I'd love to see the Doctor interact with more authors. H. P. Lovecraft would probably be my top pick. Do a proper scary episode, hint that there's some truth to the things that he wrote about and he found out about them because of the Doctor. That would be awesome.
Authors make great choices - Lovecraft could really be a scary episode.
How about a sci-fi writer like Arthur C. Clarke or Isaac Asimov?
Star Trek: The Next Generation had a guest appearance from physicist Stephen Hawking (and he's appeared on several other TV shows). I'd love to see him talk quantum mechanics with the Doctor.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
The Girl Who Waited was quite good but could've been even better with just a little more work. The genesis of the idea was very good, the character drama was powerful but I felt there could've been a bit more story to it. I found the fighting scenes silly and boring. I don't think the close-ups during the fight helped. I have a thing for Amy so I didn't like
The next episode looks creepy. Should be good!
I don't think there's a need to add more historical episodes, they overused them in the classic series. But I would love to see the Doctor meet H.P. Lovecraft (yes, Bookwyrm, that would be a super scary episode) and meeting Isaac Asimov would also be pretty good (good call, Stargazer).
