SnowAngel, I'm glad you approve! ;)

And here's the plate for Illinois, where Princess Anna hails from. Almost 2/3rds of the state's population lives in Chicago, I'm told. ymwhisle President Abraham Lincoln's home state. :)

*headdesk*
Okay, that's it! One of the next mod moots has to be in IL...
1) To kill this rumor about 2/3rds of the state living in Chicago
2) I'm sorta centrally located, so it's likely lots could make it
3) The more selfish/less important reasons: I iz poor and can't drive... and this way I don't have to worry about trying to make one. I'd be guranteed to attend! =))

..............
Some Trivia about Me (trust me, it IS related to this topic)

I have lived in quite a few places in my lifetime... and oddly enough, they've all been mentioned in here! And yes, as if it wasn't clear enough already... I'm a "small town" midwestern girl, through-and-through!

1) Born in Missouri, where my extended family still lives.
-my parents were born and raised here
2) Around a year old through four and a half- Minnesota
-my sister was born here, when I was a few months from turning three
3) Four and a half through age twelve- Kansas
4) Twelve to the present day- you know where... :p ILLINOIS!

Ah, the joys of having a pastor for a father. ;))

OK, maybe I missed it but there is no picture of Alaska's license plate. Is that just an accident? Or was that supposed to be kind of a joke as in "Alaskans don't have license plates because they all use either dog sleds or snowmachines"? :p

Alaska has two license plates. These were issued different years and there's a variation on the second one: basically just a different way the flag was printed one year was different from the previous year. All plates printed since 1981 are still valid if they are up to date (have the date stickers current in the corners)

And then there's this one which now, we see about as much as we see the above two. It's the 50th anniversary of statehood plate.

And then of course, there's any number of special plates for veterans, Alaska colleges (every college in Alaska has a special plate with the exception of one tiny Bible college), Iditarod, etc.

And also, the personalized plate. There are several you can get (including the regular gold which looks exactly like the first plate I posted, minus the flag in the middle and one with a caribou on it). The most common one, however, is the one below:

And now, you know more about Alaska license plates than you probably ever wanted to. :p

(for instance, New York's plate has been gold and blue for as long as I can remember).

Actually it was changed within the past year I believe... So it's only been yellow for about a year give or take another year.

However before the white and blue plate I believe there was once another yellow and blue one, but that was long before I was born :P

Those are some pretty cool emblems Warrior 4 Jesus. The flower is especially interesting. (Have I ever mentioned that wombats are really awesome? I love marsupials)

I'm starting to run out of facts about NY... I'm sure I'll come across some eventually :P

Edit

Also I believe the old ny plate is still valid as long as you're car registration is intact, but when you get a new one (plate/car/etc.) it's going to be yellow... Actually I know it is because ours is still white :P

@ Princess Anna. =))

@ narnian_at_heart, I had the Alaska plate pulled up but there was stuff going on in the background at my house, and I thoroughly forgot to add it. I like the Last Frontier one. :)

South Australia is one of the few states settled by free settlers rather than convict colonies.

Surely what you really mean to say is, that South Australia is the only state of Australia that doesn't have a convict colony heritage. Even Western Australia had convicts for a while due to a shortage of cheap labour. Western Australia, sometimes called Westralia, is the current name for what used to be called New Holland, named that way by Dutch explorers, such as Dirk Hartog, Willem de Vlamingh and others.

The trouble with those Australians who don't have a convict heritage in their ancestry is that their ancestors never got caught for their misdeeds, you know. =)). Possibly that is why Adelaide, in particular, is known for having the best axe murderers. :D The state flag of South Australia has something like a crow on it, as well as the Union Jack in the top left hand corner, and perhaps that is why South Australians are generally called croweaters. :-

W4J, I loved your pictures, especially the one of the shrike. Honestly, I never knew that was your bird emblem, even though I should know all the other state animal & floral symbols. Did you know the opal is your state jewel? Also, I felt a bit guilty, having thought that everyone who saw the Sydney Olympics would have recognised our bird and animal state emblems from those Olympic mascots which you see here:

Of course Millie stood for 'Millenium' ie, 2000, and what better name for an echidna, the only other monotreme in the world besides platypi (platypuses?) as in this picture:

Our floral emblem, the waratah, is depicted below:

New South Wales is the original name for the whole of the Eastern Coast of Australia. At one time it also included New Zealand, after 1840 AD. That is why next Sunday's Rugby League grand final will be more than usually interesting! Does New South Wales really want to fly the New Zealand flag on Sydney's Harbour Bridge? :-o Just watch the news to keep updated :-s ;) .

wild rose, Oh, right! :)

Edmund_The_Just, YAY!!! ANOTHER EUROPEAN!!! So nice to know you're here!!!! :) :)

fantasia_kitty, Ha, don't worry! It's true, Russia is on two continents with the larger part (including all of Siberia) in Asia, so it's normal that people sometimes get confused. The smaller but more industrialized part of Russia, as well as the capital city, are in Europe.

Shadowlander, Wow, I never knew that! That's amazing!! I also really want to go to Alaska someday. Say, do you know the color of the license plates in Washington? (The state, not Washington D.C. - I know the difference :p I had to memorize all the states and their capitals in school in 7th grade...I did get the states down, but never the capitals, except that Austin is the capital of Texas...and maybe I could remember a few more if I thought for awhile)

Sorry, Wagga. Yes, I did mean SA is the only Australian state to not have a convict colony heritage. My mistake. Not sure what was going on there.
Glad you enjoyed the photos. That's the cutest photo of the Southern Hairy Nosed Wombat I've ever seen.

Good call about the axe murderers in SA. :P We have a heavy serial killer history considering our small population. And yet, I feel safe. Maybe I'm just clueless. :)

Narnian_Archer, YEAH!!! :) It seems as if there are a only a few european NW. I was rather surprised when I saw the poll result ;). Well, to be honest there are not that many Narnia fans in my surrounding (I don't know anyone who has read the books!) , which I think is pretty sad :(. Actually, this fact was one of the main reasons why I joined NW ;).
I'm really glad to be here!!! :)

Narnian_Archer, De_De, wild rose,
Are there a lot of Narnia fans in Russia?
Nice to have you here :)

And here's Kansas, which I would say was the flattest state in the Union, but in truth that's Florida. ;)) Fantasia_Kitty is from here, and on the back of her tractor you'd see a license plate that looks kind of like this:

The nice thing about Florida is that when you're driving through it you're swerving back and forth dodging swamps and trees so it doesn't feel flat. But Kansas... goodness just take a look at I-70. Straight... flat.... the only swerving you're doing is avoiding the occasional tumbleweed.

If you look at the back of my tractor you're going to see a whole lot of dirt, dust, and mud, but no license plate cause it doesn't carry one. ;) But if you look at the back of my truck, you'll see a license plate that looks like this, which is our current one....

What a fun thread- I read through the whole thing. :P I'm from the U.S., Wisconsin. It's a lovely place to live (VERY good sports teams. :D Go Pack, Brewers, and Badgers! :D), with absolutely lovely countryside, rollings hills and lots of tree's and vibrant colors. The weather can definitely be annoying, it likes to switch up to 40 degree's in just a few days, so you never know what it's going to be like. Cold cold in the winter (and spring and fall), and HOT in the summer.
There are a lot of NWebbers who live in the midwest, and in states close to me! We should get together! :P

Ohio's licence plate has recently been revised, SL. That is the old Ohio licence plate that is being phased out. The new one looks like this:

It was voted as the second most beautiful licence plate in the country. Oklahoma supposedly has the prettiest, but I cannot find one of their licence plates which remotely competes with my state's ;)

North America. California girl :) (no association to the Katy Perry song intended or wanted, but I can manage with the Beatles ;) )

One of my favorite random quirks about California is Huell Howser. Huell is this guy on PBS with 7 TV shows (although I've only seen probably 3 different shows... I think a couple might be produced by him), and basically most of them is a guy wandering around local secrets and whatnot discovering California... since the 80's. And did I mention he's got a thick Tennessee accent? It's amazing. And apparently acquired because he does some pretty awkward moments ;))

I'm from the great state of Georgia in North America! I just gave a cursory glance at each page of this thread, but I didn't see anyone else from Georgia. So here's a few random facts...

Home of a surprising amount of popular musicians including James Brown & Ray Charles, R.E.M. and the B-52's (I think) also originated out of Georgia. Both Margaret Mitchell (author of Gone with the Wind) & Flannery O'Connor also hail from Georgia.

It's known as the 'Peach State', which I find ironic since (if I remember correctly...) we are the third or fourth state in peach production...We actually should probably be known as the pecan state since we are the #1 producer of pecans in the world! :p Georgia is also the home of Coca-Cola (I've been privileged to tour the factory multiple times)!
