Wow! This is all very interesting, maybe we should open a NW history thread so all of us newer members can learn a little about it. Or at least a timeline. It's just a thought, I find all sorts of disscussions like this to be extremely fascinating.

That is a very interesting and cute saying
I wasn't signed up or looked into the forums that much to see it being used, but what Princess Anna had to say about it I wouldn't try it. I didn't sign up here to cause drama. So RIP Blarghefur.

Great idea! A thread or timeline would be good, and helpful too! (even to people like me, who have been around for awhile! it's hard to remember everything)

Did you read what stardf wrote too? It explains things much better than mine. His post was the history, whereas mine dealt with personal feelings. I should have been more objective. I wasn't trying to cause drama either, or be a wet blanket.
I told Val this already, but I should probably tell you. I think she had some great points. I don't mind if you guys use it in your sigs or end your posts with it. I like the idea of wiping out the past, and giving it a chance to "redeem" itself. I have to keep an open mind. Just don't expect me to join in on it, and don't rub it in my face. Fair enough?
I want us all to continue being friends, who have a good time together. I don't want to be seen as "the person who killed a fun word" or as a boring ol' wet blanket. I'll work this out with you, if you're willing to deal with a person who can't believe how life changes. (for some reason, though I love Nweb... it doesn't feel the same to me now (hasn't for a few years now), as it did when I started. (Perhaps I've just gotten older and more cynical... who knows) Which is why I take breaks now and then... I distance myself so that the good memories stay, and that the place doesn't get ruined for me. and so that I don't ruin it for others, by my frustrations)
To be honest, I'm just tired of this whole argument. It's making my feelings and thoughts all confused. And I'm tired and ready to cry from mixed emotions that I hardly know how to express. I can't think anymore. Use the word, don't use it. I don't care. Just leave me out of it. Please don't be upset with me. I'd feel even worse.
I have never heard of that word in my life, was it just on nw or was it a thign all teens and young adults said?
I remember coming into the C&P and reading a whole post of "blarghefurs" in different fonts and sizes.
I never felt the need to participate in it myself, but it was pretty funny.

This was just a Narniaweb thing, although a few Narniawebbers may have introduced it to their close friends.
I remember coming into the C&P and reading a whole post of "blarghefurs" in different fonts and sizes.
...and that's the sort of thing we're trying to avoid in the future. There is nothing wrong with using the word itself, but using it wisely and not in excess is essential.
I remember being quite neutral about the whole deal at the time, but I was not a moderator back then, so that more than likely affected my view on the whole thing.

And pickle, the fact that you think of it as the "spirit of Nweb", and that we've "lost it" bothers me..... The spirit of Narniaweb, the true one, never left. It's the friendliness of the members, the loving patience of the mod team, the love of all things Lewis, the love of God. THAT is the spirit of Narniaweb.
Sorry, I guess I didn't realize all the problems it created. I think you're right about the "true spirit" of NW. I thought that blarghefur was a thing that all NWers knew and used.
If you want to bring it back, this is your chance to "redeem" the word--help install it as a fun word, and banish the negative memories of it in the past.
I have no intention of misusing blarghefur, only use it as another word that I use when it fits appropriately, just like any other word. I had no idea that people used it in such ways as stardf29 said.

On a different note, I found it funny thinking about a history book with a chapter titled, "The Blarghefur Era"

Blarghefur was a NarniaWeb-invented word that was common, primarily in the Ditto Town C&P conversation threads, for a while. As for its meaning,
...she told me basically meant complete randomness....
A discussion of NarniaWeb history might be fun, though stardf's post on the previous page is an excellent summary of the highlights of the history of the Community Forum sections. Reading it brought back a few memories! It's rather hard to believe now that there was a time when Ditto Town was essentially one thread: the 'Ditto Club,' containing not only conversation like the Town Square now features, but Ditto Story posts and character bios (several years ago, the threads in Ditto Town were expanded, using the "town" theme, to separate out the various stories, role-plays, and biography sections).
His post also helps explain the origins of Ditto Town's rather unusual name.
As I recall, I arrived around the time (or very shortly afterwards) that the Ditto Club and Spare Oom were spun off. (Or the Ditto Club was spun off the Spare Oom community section). What grew into Games & Blogs came a little later, with Prayer Requests being the last section added to the Community Forums.
(Incidentally, the Narnia-themed sections have also seen some changes over the years; for example, Narnian Merchandise was added as the forum continued to grow).
But I digress. As Valiant_Lucy has so eloquently described, while there are strong feelings on either side, the word itself is fine in a post or in your signature - as long as your posts are otherwise appropriate for the section in which you're posting (most noticeably in this context, that they have substance ). Thanks!
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
Haha, when I saw the title of this topic, I definitely cringed. As Princess Anna already described, the "Blarghefur Phenomenon" is what killed the Ditto Town for me. There used to be great discussions there. (Shoutout to Cymru, levibarjonas, BERNINBUSH, wyntre_rose, Earel Alquawen, Dooby, coraline, master oliver, Ryadin, stargazer, cepault...all the "Old Dittopians"...)
Stardf29 put it well:
- There are many who were, and are still now, opposed to "Blarghefur". This is not because they think it is "stupid", but rather because they remember when the phenomenon ruined a place that in the past was rather close to their hearts. In particular, saying to them that it, in any way, represented the "spirit" of NarniaWeb, can be a major affront, because they came to NarniaWeb for community and discussion, not for complete randomness.
Edit: Remember the Madcap Sirens? *wistful*
For me, I am driven by two main philosophies: know more today about the world than I knew yesterday, and along the way, lessen the suffering of others. You'd be surprised how far that gets you. - Neil deGrasse Tyson
Oh no Princess Anna, I didn't mean it like that at all
I just thought that since you placed that it'd be better to support the word "blarghefur" if it was in a sigg and not on a thread. I was only trying to follow regulations not start something.

A more specific meaning of blargefur (if I remember correctly) is that it was a word that could mean anything. A verb, a noun, a pronoun, an adverb, it was all those things.
I was a Blargefurrian, but I wasn't sad when it faded off. I mostly stopped using it because the people who did have moved on. The discussions going on in the Town Square now (though so long and involved I'm afraid I don't participate because of time constraints) are much more important than a bunch of "Blargefur!" posts.
And no, not everyone on NWeb used it. It was only in the Cup & Platter (or Cap & Plutter if you prefer) thread.
I don't mind people using it (in sigs and taglines or even saying stuff like "Oh my blargefur!" or "Blargefur! I forgot my assignment today" or "I feel blargefur today" in conversations in the chatroom), just please, please, please no one word posts of it, and no wars over it.
P.S."Brooklyn!"
Don't worry, Rising_Star. I'm not planning to use it for one-word posts. I just want it to be one of those words that is used on NW, like "Conga-rats", "Mortereve", or "Cozy slippers" (<--love that one ).

I'm fairly new to NW, so I don't know what a lot of these words mean, but the history lessons are very interesting! I've enjoyed reading them and I look forward to reading more! (The Blarghefur Era... hehe. ) Anyway, just wanted to interject that. Carry on...
