I have always thought Aye-Ayes are cute, I'm not sure why but I do. :p
It is sad they are killed in Madagascar! :((

I heard Koala Bears will sometimes sit in the middle of the road in Australia and you have to wait for them to move, because they can be really aggressive. :-

Another animal I like in Australia is the Tasmanian Devil, though they are very nasty tempered (hence the name). :p

What about legless lizards, DJP? They're biologicall lizards, but physiologically appear snakish.

I hate snakes too Jill. Ugh-it's all I can do to make it through the reptile house at the zoo. :-s To the zoologists on here, why do they call koalas bears?

I freaked out when I first recently moved into my new house, my land owner said it took a long time to get the house out in the market because the person who lived in my house before me owned over 100 snakes and some got loose so animal patrol had to go in and collect all the snakes before the house was put out in the market. I was paranoid for about three weeks and realized once I got everything settled and went touring in the attic with some friends that they were all gone.

I was really paranoid.

I LOVE legless lizards!!! :x Infact I like lizards in general :) Wouldn't survive very long as a herpetologist though, as I'm a bit of a klutz and therefore likely to get bitten :(

Time for an extict animal Thylacinus cynocephalus, better known as the Tasmainian Tiger, the Tasmainian Wolf, and the Thylacine, it too is neither a wolf or a tiger but rather a marsupial.
Theory is that they went extinct on mainlain Austrailia a few centuries ago when the dingoes were introduced. It's believed that the dingoes outcompeted the thylacines and eventually took over their ecological niche on the mainland.
The survived until the 1900's in Tasmainia and were at the time the largest modern carnivorous marsupial. Unfortunately humans hunted them to extiction, the last, Benjamin (although it was believed to actually be a female) dying in 1936.
Unofficial sightings persist however, and many cryptozoologists have tried, unsuccessfully to find survivors.

Yes, Tasmanian tigers are great. Pity they're extinct.

Chloe, I never heard the term 'koala bears' before from Aussies, only ever tourists or people on the Net. We just call them 'koalas'.

7Chronicles, koalas are quite aggressive, especially if it's during mating season, or you get between them and their young or between them and their tree. If you're walking along and you see a koala in the middle of the road, it's best to wait until it's moved on. If you're in a vehicle, it's best to slow down, perhaps even stop if necessary and the koala should move on (they don't like cars etc.) Koalas aren't a problem most of the time though, because they're high-up in the trees. But I've heard of horror stories where some stupid tourists have approached koalas and tried to pick them up and had their skin stripped to bloody ribbons. Very, very painful. Remember - they may look cute but they're wild and their claws are razor-sharp.

Tasmanian devils are probably Australia's most vicious mammal. It's also a marsupial. These blighters are so aggresive. Think something like a wolverine, only an Aussie version. Or perhaps a Rottweiller or Pit Bull, only an Aussie native. Yeah. Avoid angering them. In captivity they are quite lazy though. They mostly sleep during the day and fight and eat during the night - Tasmanian devils are nocturnal creatures.

I'm fine with snakes, as long as they're not poisonous. Problem is Australia has most of the venemous species in the world. :P

I guess that's why I've heard Australia called "The Land Where Everything is Trying to Kill You".
I don't really mind snakes as much as I mind spiders, scorpions, ants cockroaches, and assorted other creepy crawlies. Not to mention camel crickets. There are huge ones in our basement. Ugh.
Many lizards are quite cute, though. If you've ever seen one of those little green anoles--they are adorable.

Yep, I actually have a small list of reasons why I shouldn't move to Austrailia, even though I want so badly to live there... Most of those reasons are animals...

Speaking of which question for all of you Austrailians, just how easy or hard is it to get a rabbit as a pet there? I know they've been having problems with their wild counterparts as an invasive species and to my knowledge, it's been made a bit difficult to buy/keep rabbits there as a result.

Yikes haha, and aren't there some really dangerous crocodiles there too by the coast somewhere?

I actually really like snakes, I don't understand why so many people don't. They're very cute in my opinion. I remember hearing a rattle snake when I went to Arizona, but that was a little scary.

I love snakes. I think they're adorable. I saw one at the pet store that I liked so much, that the store-keeper took it out of the glass case for me to see. I wish I had gotten to hold it. It was a Corn Snake. And not deadly. It wasn't very expensive either. I'm hoping to buy one someday. :)

Ewww, an albino corn snake. ;)) My neighbor had one of those and my sister took care of it over Christmas. I thought I was ok with snakes, but that one really creeped me out.

I've always been fond of koalas since we had this book when I was a kid called Koala Kate about--you guessed it!--a koala named Kate. Hopefully I would be smart enough not to try to hug one if I saw one though.

I'll admit it, I like snakes ;)) (Which is funny because when I was little I used to be deathly afraid of them) But they are really cool, especially the two-headed ones:

^^ Aww... Siamese-Twin snakes! Or is it more of a... Medusa situation? ;)) If each head had a different personality, I would name them either Jekyll and Hyde or Gollum and Smeagol.

My favorite kind of snake, I think, would be a King Snake. The kind with the black and white stripes. I saw a baby one at a pumpkin patch once. My friend was freaking out when she saw it, but it wasn't harming her. ;)) It was only a couple inches long. ;;)
