Haha, that is hysterical! A crow that loves Olive Garden! Some of my favorite animals are horses, cats, lions, tigers, kangaroos, wallabies, and giraffes. Also, I would love to share a new animal that our local zoo has received. They have gotten an animal called a babirusa. It looks like a cross between a pig and a deer. Very bizarre looking!

Babirusas are creepy animals ;)).

I always thought that they looked like something out of a mythical realm.

Actually (I hope this doesn't gross anybody out), it's really interesting, because the upper curved tusks, never stop growing. In the wild, there are times when the tusks grow so long, that they go through the skull, into the brain, killing the animal. . . :(

Digs, I want your job :P

Actually I hope to do field research at some point. Lo0l about the crow :P

I've heard about that with baribusas, always thought they were pretty neat :) Lagomorphs and rodents have a similar problem if they don't keep their teeth trim, they can grow into their jaw... :(

Here's one I always thought was interesting,

The maned wolf, Chrysocyon brachyurus, is the only animal in it's genus. I think they're abesolutely gorgeous, and they're my second favorite canid (behind the true, gray wolf, Canis lupus). They're characterized by red fox like markings, the mane, and really long legs...
B-)

Yes, it was truly a blessing from God. Due to the fact that it's not here on campus, I only get to work there on the weekend, but I still really enjoy every moment of my job.

Here's our website if you're interested in seeing what we do ;)

That wolf is very beautiful indeed. It looks very foxish.

My favourite tame animals are definitely cats, and after that horses. Cats are so clean, keep to themselves and can be so loyal and obedient. (My cat is a good sheep; she only listens to the voice of her shepherd. ;) )
I do like goats and cows, too.
My favourite wild animal varies. I'd have to say lions because they're just so majestic. After that, it's zebras or girrafes. Elephants are pretty cool, as are polar bears. Oh, and Arctic foxes are the cutest!! Favourite place for seeing animals in their natural habitat: the African Savanna, prarie or fields *sighs* My heart belongs there. & the Arctic. I really like seeing animals in the West/Northwest in U.S.
Monkeys are nice from a distance (the cute, normal type are nice to watch), but apes and baboons are just gross to me. :P Especially the latter.
The two animals, though, that I don't feel comfortable touching or being around are some fish and pigeons. With fish I can handle, but pigeons! Ugh, I don't know, there's just this fear/weirded-outness of them. *shudders* Chickens and roosters have a similar effect on me. I think a lot of birds do.
Being a typical girl though, any baby animal makes me like them immediately. ;)) :P
I've been to the zoo around here a couple times, and like Miss R said, I don't really like seeing them caged up.

That's so interesting about the crow you mentioned, Digs. When I was little, I used to have a crow friend who I would caw at as best I could and it would come to the window occasionally and I believe (so my parents say) caw at/with me. Hehe...

I love the Arctic foxes at the zoo. And I love the story about the crow! Some animals can have very weird tastes in food. My brother has a pet turtle, and she has eaten cookie crumbs that fell in her tank.

I've never seen a live babirusas but I've heard of them before. They're essentially a species of warthog, yes? I agree that they look like something from a fantasy world. I really wonder what God was thinking when he made the creature. It looks like the babirusas would have trouble eating (with all those tusks and horns in the way).

Wolfloversk, that manned wolf looks great! I've never heard of the beast before. Very interesting. Thanks for sharing.

They do!

And thanks for the link, now I seriously want your job :P Of course its slightly out of walking distance from my campus...

There was a similar sanctuary near my hometown, although I've never actually been there... I believe this is their website:

So would I be wrong Digs, in assuming that your primary focus is orithology (That's study of birds for those who don't know)? Or is it something else or a mixture of a bunch of stuff? I myself am really into mammalogy (study of mammals), but ornithology and ichthyology (study of fish) are biggies for me too :D (Especially the bioluminecsent fish B-) )

Well the only reason I declared a zoology majour here at Ohio State University is because the program really aligns well with the Vet school prerequisites. My ultimate hope is to get accepted to the college of Veterinary Medicine, and graduate four years later with my DVM.

But in the mean-times, yes, I'm very interested with birds, just because I think they're really really awesome. I'm also very intrigued by animal behaviour (in fact, next fall, I'm taking an ethology [animal behaviour] course).

Next quarter should be really fun too. I'm taking an animal diversity class, an ecology class, as well as a biochemistry class. I'm so excited!

Well that was my second guess ;))

It seems a lot of Zoology majors here at SUNY Oswego are interested in prevet, second most common is conservation... Or at least that's how it is with my class (By the way I heard someone saying they went to OSU and I got all excited until I reallized they meant Ohio and not Oswego Ooops. Apparently our schools have the same nick name.)

I get to take genetics next semester, I think :D I'm so excited! B-)

Ugh, don't be! I was so excited to take Molecular Genetics last quarter, and it was the most boring, and most pointless class I've ever taken! Hopefully you'll fare better than I did (I did well in the class. . . but it was miserable just the same).

That being said. . . I think we should probably head back to the topic of animals ;).

One of the cool things that happened at the bird sanctuary over the summer was that we had a weasel problem. They kept breaking into our aviary and killing our songbirds. We managed to trap most of them (most were euthanized :( ), but I managed to catch one, and I released it in my woods. It was so cute, and I would have loved to have kept it, but it was very vicious, even as a wee tyke, not to mention that weasels have musk glands. . . making it a rather odiferous car ride home ;))

How could something this cute be so mean?

DiGoRyKiRkE, Maybe you should look into ferrets... although I guess they still smell. And what made genetics so boring?

I, myself, am definitely a rabbit girl! Although (as I've said elsewhere) I'm thinking of getting a guinea pig... but my dad started looking for another rabbit. I hope he does get one, its hard living with out one now :(( (But he took the initiative to look at guine pigs too :) )

I love meerkats too. They are so interesting to look at and so adorable. Cats are my favorite as well. I will probably wind up being the crazy cat lady :)
