Cool, Kat! :D It's been forever since I've seen that show, but I liked it.

So, I'm currently watching Series Five of Doctor Who for the first time. I think Vampires of Venice and Vincent and the Doctor are the episodes that have captured my interest the most so far.

When we started watching Hungry Earth & Cold Blood my mind immediately went to the little I know about the VoDT leaked script. The ground is angry and it's eating people! That, and I kept wanting to call the title Hungry Moon, not Hungry Earth. :P
A few other thoughts on that two-parter:
I'm getting a bit tired of the main series plot of
With everything I've said, though, I'm still making up my mind on the series; I really like all the nods back to the classic series. And the Eleventh Doctor is seeming much more like a Doctor now, which is really nice. :)

To the future, to the past - anywhere provided it's together.

Is anyone else interested in the new remake of Upstairs, Downstairs? I'm a period film junkie, so a period TV show sounds pretty much ideal. Plus it has a pretty good cast. It has Keeley Hawes :x and some other good actors in lesser roles. I'm hoping to be able to catch and episode somewhere.

Whilst shopping today I came upon DVD box sets of seasons 3 and 4 of Quantum Leap at a low price I couldn't resist. This late 80s/early 90s show stands up fairly well, I think, though a few of the episodes I watched this afternoon seemed a bit heavy in their 'preaching' on social issues.

It's a fairly innovative take on the time-travel theme, in which Sam (Scott Bakula, later on Enterprise) doesn't physically travel in time but occupies the bodies of past people. He 'leaps' from one to another, 'setting right what once went wrong.' Since each episode is a sort of period piece in a different time, there's some variety in plots.

I'm watching the pilot of The Cape on NBC right now. Keith David (Gargoyles) has appeared already but Summer Glau (Firefly) has not. We're only 30 minutes into a 2-hour premiere so the jury's still out.

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

I am entirelly addicted to only 2 shows on TV right now. Fringe, which has moved to Fox's death slot at friday night. And star wars the clone wars. The hardest thing is they overlap each other now, so which do I choose???? AHHHHHH! :-s

The Walking Dead was a hot topic of discussion on this thread a few pages ago, but I missed it while it aired. Today I noticed the AMC cable channel is advertising a marathon of all 6 episodes to be aired tomorrow night and Wednesday (January 18, 19). Here's my chance to see what I missed.

I really recommend it, stargazer. It's a great show. Most folks walking in are going to think it's pure horror (and that is the foundation the show rests on, to be clear) but there's quite a lot of human drama and interaction in it as well. The show is definitely not for the squeamish, as I've said before, but if you're not hooked after the first episode (like the rest of us ;)) ) I'll be surprised, especially since they're calling it "the new Lost". ;))

The first 3 episodes of TWD aired last night, and I can certainly understand the interest. I'm almost tempted to read the earlier discussion on the subject but imagine those spoiler boxes hide things I'd rather see when the other 3 episodes air tonight.

I know I lean toward that squeamish end of the spectrum - I really don't watch horror for the sake of horror - but found it easy enough to turn away during the more graphic moments. Other things, like the suspense, mysteries (what caused the zombie apocalypse is barely hinted at so far), and character interaction kept my interest. I'm all for those kinds of elements (the suspense reminded me of the first few times the Smoke Monster appeared in LOST, and we really didn't know what it was all about). So I'll watch the rest of it tonight.

Speaking of LOST, whilst rummaging about old VHS tapes yesterday I came upon my recording of the season 2 finale. Speaking of character interaction, there was some really good stuff in that episode...Charlie and Eko, Desmond and Locke, and even Desmond and Penny (who don't interact in real time but the depth of their relationship is still clear). And all over what happens if you don't push a button to save the world. ;))

Anyone a fan of The Big Bang Theory? I'm a very new fan and loving it :D It's kind of funny because it was always on right before the Mentalist (which I also adore), so mom and I would always catch the very end, but put it on mute. And we'd always say "oh there's that stupid show again". Well one day I was reallyreally bored and decided to watch it. hehe. It's great! ;)) About two super nerdy guys who are basically the smartest you will ever be and geek out about everything, then a hot girl moves across the hall from them. They become good friends with her and she tries to teach them to be "normal" while they try to teach her to be "smart". I wouldn't reccomend it to everyone as it's a bit crude, (probably about as much as Arrested Development or a bit less so), but if you like The Office-type humor you might enjoy it. My mom eventually sat down and watched some and she was even laughing a bit, so that's a good sign :P

I am! That's funny, Val. I went to bubble tea with a friend and they had it on and both of us were glued. ;)) I started watching it and I love it! Leonard is a great character--a median between the ultra-nerds and Penny. Sheldon walks along a fine line of hilarious and terribly annoying. There are some episodes when I can't stand him though. I could definitely do without Wolowitz, but Raj is so funny when Penny's not around! His inability to talk to women was intriguing for a while, but now it's just old. And then Penny is a great character. I go to school with a bunch of engineers and computer geeks, so it's fun to see extrapolations of my friends on the screen. ;))

gazer: How was The Cape?

edit: I was just watching 2x17 where they take the train to San Francisco and they took the "Coast Starlight" which is the train I take home from college. ;)) Though it doesn't look quite like it does on set. And then the proceeded to mention my town in the episode! Although, Sheldon did pronounce it wrong. ;))
(*GASP!!** Sheldon did something wrong??!!)

I've seen the first season of The Big Bang Theory and enjoyed it very much. I have the second season on reserve at my library. I don't always/often get all the geeky references but it's still great. It's very awkward to see the four guys and their interactions with Penny, but oh so worth it. Hard to believe it's from the same people who made the gosh awful Two and a Half Men series. ;)

Currently watching:
Doctor Who - Season 11

Many of my self-proclaimed geeky friends love The Big Bang Theory - some have even begun using 'rock-paper-scissors-lizard-Spock' in their everyday conversations. ;)) I have enjoyed the episodes I've caught.

Kate, I enjoyed The Cape and will continue watching it for now, though the first couple episodes didn't grab me like LOST or some of my other favorite shows did. Maybe I expected more of a sci-fi or fantasy element; rather, it's a superhero show set in a world much like our own. Still, it's fun to see Summer Glau and Keith David in new roles.

I love The Big Bang Theory! I don't normally enjoy sitcoms but I clearly can't resist all the Star Trek references.

Sheldon's my favourite character, he's sometimes a bit annoying but most of the time even that's funny. I liked Leonard in the first series but he really annoys me now, and the whole him and Penny thing has got really boring (on the other hand, the Sheldon and Penny dynamic is wonderful. My favourite episode is probably the one where he has to help her get to the hospital after an accident caused by a lack of adhesive ducks).

We often use rock-paper-scissors-lizard-Spock in my group of friends, I tend to win because most people can't resist choosing Spock, so you just stick with lizard ;))

There is a crack in everything, that's how the light gets in.

YAY! Big Bang Theory fans are on NW! :D

Shantih, Sheldon's my favorite character hands down as well :P I totally get the Annoying-Leonard thing. And I really don't know why Penny went for him...I'm not sure if I think Penny/Sheldon would make a cute couple or just good friends, but every episode with them as the main storyline is pretty awesome. I actually watched that "lack of adhesive ducks" one the other night and was simply SCREAMING with laughter. =))

On a side note, I got Sheldon in a "who are you on the Big Bang Theory" quiz, and was extremely happy. In some ways he reminds me of a extremely exzagerated version of myself ;)) I could extremely relate to the episode where he got sick. That's basically how I act while ill, and the scene where he finds out Penny was exposed to germs, therefore exposing the germs to Sheldon, has been how I've acted upon finding out one of my family members has a sore throat. :P

edit: and I realize I just used the word "Extremely" three times in three sentences...

I still haven't come across whatever episode references the "rock-paper-scissors-lizard-spock"....
