The 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics are right around the corner and here in my household everyone is anxiously awaiting for the opening ceremonies to begin. People have found sports a national pride since the Olympics between the ancient Greek city states. Soccer is a faith in Europe just as baseball is in the Dominican and football is in America. In spite of all Canada's regional differences, language disputes, and even religious arguments; Canadian's are consistent on one thing we all know and love hockey. So when our nations greatest hockey players come together and play for one team, with one goal at hand, it's something very special for us as a country. So I will be glued to my television whenever Team Canada is playing... especially against the US
Some Athletes I'm looking forward to watching:
- Ashley Wagner (Figure Skater)
- Patrick Chan (Figure Skater)
- Charles Hamelin (Speed skater)
- Sidney Crosby ( Ice Hockey)
- Kaillie Humphries (Bobsleigh)
- Drew Doughty (Ice Hockey)
Go Team Canada!

I'm also looking forward to the Sochi Olympics, Impending Doom. Hockey is also big here in Minnesota so I imagine a lot of people will be glued to their TV sets when US plays Canada.
Yesterday's NFL playoffs featured two come-from-behind, last-second victories. The game that I'm interested in seeing today is in Green Bay, which has gotten a lot of national attention this week because it's so cold. But I think I'll root for Seattle through the playoffs.
And it's only about 3 months until the MLB season and (theoretically at least) warmer weather arrive.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
I myself don't really follow cricket but I know the Ashes has just finished and Australia won(well that was hard to miss). It covers the front of news papers etc. Throughout the series it often was on the front page of some newspaper.
I LOVE the Winter Olympics and have been looking forward to them since the 2010 games ended. There are so many events I enjoy watching- Hockey, Skiing/Snowboarding, curling, speed skating, bobsled/luge, biathalon...
Now, I just need to figure out how I am going to watch it since I don't have TV this time around....
The NFL playoffs sure were fun this weekend! My beloved Eagles lost, but I quite like the Saints as well, so it wasn't too painful to lose to them. Plus, I am excited about the future in Philly with Chip Kelly as coach and Folse under center.
I don't think the Saints will be able to get past Seattle, so in the NFC, I guess I am rooting for the Seahawks or Carolina. In the AFC, I think it will be hard for any of the defenses to slow down Peyton and the Broncos enough to win. I like Peyton and would like to see him get another ring to end the silly debate about Eli being the better Manning because he has 2 Super Bowl rings

I'm also looking forward to the Olympics. They're the only sports I ever follow. As we get closer to February, we'll open a special thread for the Olympics.

Yay! I'll keep my eyes peeled for that!
Did anyone hear about the Marshawn Lynch fine? The NFL fined the Seattle Seahawks running back $50,000 after finding out this past week he hadn't spoken to the media all season! Oh the horror! Seriously? That's just ridiculous!

So I'm very loosely following March Madness this year. Kind of funny because I never do... But three Kansas teams started out in the brackets this year. Kansas State University is my ulma mater, Wichita State University is close to home and they're rocking the basketball world this year (35-0, new NCAA record! ), and then there's Kansas University, whom I occasionally cheer for because they're from my state.
Two out of three teams won yesterday... KU and WSU. KSU did not, but I'm not terribly surprised; and even if they had won, they would have played WSU next and I SERIOUSLY doubt they could have won that game.
WSU and KU both play tomorrow. We'll see if they advance or not.
I don't care for basketball, especially the Kansas teams. (One of side of the family is from Kansas and the other is from Missouri, I am from Missouri!) I did hear that the Kansas teams didn't do so well.
I am so ready for baseball! I can't wait for next week, I am really looking forward to watching the Cardinals again!

Yeah, yesterday was pretty disappointing. Both KU and WSU lost, and they did it in the same way. Both were two points down and went for a 3 pointer in the last seconds of the game and missed. Still proud of WSU though. Yesterday was the first game they lost this season. Pretty darn good for a team that came out of nowhere last year.
It is sad to hear of. I was kind of hoping they could pull it off. I'm just glad the UNC Tar Heels lost. Now I don't have to take too much smack talk from em at work tomorrow.

Baseball's Opening Day is here! baseball is back!!!
It's not the NCAA Final Four, but congrats to my alma mater's men's basketball team on winning the NIT tournament last week.
And the Twins have their home opener today. It's a great day for outdoor baseball, and the grounds crew has been hard at work removing all the snow we got last Thursday.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
The only football I watch is the CFL but that is because I do get NFL games but they are on late but I do follow it a little bit. I am more in to hockey.

...so, anyone paying attention to March Madness? For the first time in my life, I filled out a bracket (two of them actually!) since it's a big deal at the company I work at, and winner gets bragging rights (second was for the group I specifically work in, which gives you perhaps even bigger bragging rights ). I paid no attention to rankings and had done no research on the actual teams, which means I lost my championship team for the first bracket in the first game. And then I lost my other championship team yesterday. I think some of my coworkers were a bit embarrassed for me, but it's been a lot of fun and I (when last checked) have the dubious distinction of being dead last in the company rankings.
Does anyone have any serious (or semi-serious) thoughts about which teams have a good chance of making it to the championship?
Some days you battle yourself and other monsters. Some days you just make soup.
Well, the odds on favorite to win is Kentucky, and make no mistake, they're a formidable team. I suspect they may pull it off...but no other team has been able to play a completely perfect season since Indiana University back in the 70's (I think it was 74 or 75, but I'm rusty). My personal belief is that they will fall just shy of the Final Four, but if they make it that far they'll probably go ahead and win. I hope they lose...I'm a huge Duke fan and if Duke makes it far enough to face off with Kentucky it'd be like playing an NBA team. Seriously, they're that good.
I filled out one bracket and it's not completely mangled yet, and it looks a lot better than my coworkers' versions . I love March Madness! This is one of the greatest times of the year, especially if you have a team that makes it in. Literally any team with enough heart can make it all the way to the Finals if fortune favors them. Do you have a team that you're pulling for personally Valia? Or are you just sorta winging it? lol
