I haven't been doing particularly well in the canyon area so far. A few Black Powder charms, no interesting mice from arming them, thus no better charms either. Last train ride I saved them, and may save them until I get the new traps - many, many train rides from now.
I had an interesting Tower run today. I was doing Mystic, but got the Technic unlocked all the way up to Rook. I caught lots of Rooks and Bishops, and 2 Mystic Queens - it will be interesting to see how many points I made, possibly about a million.
(Edit: 1,401,368 points from
16 Mystic Pawn, 8 Technic Pawn,
5 Mystic Knight, 2 Technic Knight,
6 Mystic Bishop, 3 Technic Bishop,
6 Mystic Rook, 1 Technic Rook,
2 Mystic Queen, 1 Mystic King
and 9 Claw Shot City mice)
The Queen had not been caught yet at 72% amp, but I got her soon after that. And then with all those other catches, the amp went down and down and down ...
When it passed 20%, I was given a notice for each hunt that my amp was low and I could go to SG to recharge - but I was stubborn (more than patient) and stayed put.
Finally caught the Mystic King at 8 % amp with ZFM/MSB, Power 482, Luck 2.

Pretty sure that is lower than my lowest amp/king caught, and I got waaaaay down there. I think I was at 10 or 11 amp left. Congrats; I bet it was painful but the feeling of satisfaction is like no other!
It was an interesting experience. It taught me a bit more about how the amplifier works at low values. The effectivity panel indicated that as the King becomes harder to catch, the other mice become even harder to catch, so if you only want to catch the first King, give him all you've got
(The strategy may change if you're in a double run and want to catch the second King but not the Chess Master.)
Yes, it was painful - and finally sharing "GOT HIM!!!" with a friend, was great

One tip is that if you catch the Queen and you still have a decent amount of amp left (i.e. anything over 70 or so), you want to DUMB down your trap as much as possible in order to avoid catching Queens or Rooks again. Switch to a Pincher or something. The King isn't terribly difficult to catch, so you can knock your trap down a LOT in order to repel harder mice, while still having a great shot at catching the King.
This is especially important if you're trying for a double run and you want to catch the King without draining your amp and risking catching the Chessmaster (been there, done that).
In other news, I think I've figured out which Train traps I'm going for in order. I've been studying them and getting some advice from other players, and it appears that the Bandit Deflector is the best one to get first. You need more Copper for the other two traps than any other loot, AND the River is the best place for gold so you will make a better profit per run. After that, the Engine Doubler would be good because you'll have a better catch rate for your charms, resulting in more gold/points/loot. And then the Supply Grabber comes last.
Makes sense?
ETA: In other news, thanks to the gold from the train, I went ahead and bought all the trap pieces I still need for my two remaining LG traps. Now all I lack is the essences to craft the blueprints. This way, I have the trap parts paid for, and I can always sell them back if I'm in sudden need of cash. And, I've not nothing major left to pay for before Ronza comes (not even going to TRY for the Rift base until Easter), so I can just earn and save and hopefully get quite a lot of gold saved up.
Jacob is drawing the new Halloween trap today, and at the risk of sounding like a complete wuss, it's the first one he's ever drawn that's... bothered me. I'll do the Halloween event, obviously, but if the trap is something that you buy as opposed to a drop, I'll probably pass.
In other news, I believe I am about two 24 trains away from buying the Bandit Deflector. I have all of the Iron and Tin I need, just 65 Copper to go.
Hehe, I'm sure you'll win as I will be offline tomorrow evening for a wedding. But I'll be less than a day behind ya.

What did it look like? I tried finding the video of it on the link it gave me in the Feedback Friday section, but didn't see it listed.

I wondered that myself, Ithi, so I went hunting on the MH forums, and viola!
I am not nearly as close as Fantasia and Gymmie to my first trap. I have 153 Fe, 138 Cu, 100 Sn. I think trying to wait until I have enough for the Raider trap is going to be a tough, long haul.
I'm excited for the Halloween event. Even though it means event season is starting and I'll be unlikely to make as much progress in the other areas, the Halloween event is usually one of my favorites.

Thanks. And wow. That is a bit more... edgy than their designs usually are, isn't it?
What happens if you use it to catch Zombie mice, I wonder?

I think KinHong Wong on the MouseHunt Forum nails it - it's not a trap I would enjoy having in my inventory either.
The glass container is apparently where the removed brains are kept in formaldehyde (according to some of the chat, I didn't follow much of it).
Is this trap used to make zombies, perhaps? Then catching them doesn't make sense ...
All this halloween/undead/zombie stuff is my least favorite feature of MouseHunt.
I noticed even last year.
And it's over the edge this time, as far as my taste goes.

hmmm only thing that may bother me about it is I can't see what's in the jar in the back...
I must say I think shadow traps in general are a bit edgier... I mean the idea behind the sinister portal is rather... um... sinister And the Gorgon trap... And Reaper's Perch can be kinda creepy (though I think it's pretty cool )

I think out of all the Mousetraps, the one that's bothered me the most isn't even a Shadow trap. It's the Mouse Rocketine.
I mean... ...
It has a soccer ball net.
A soccer ball net.
Soccer ball net...

I don't mind the spider trap.
But then I don't mind spiders. When some of my friends who cannot stand them, want to get rid of them, I'm quite happy to pick up the spider and throw it out of the window.
If it's a big one, I'd rather catch it in a box before throwing it out - and I've seen one (the size of my hand) that someone kept as a pet, and I was glad she kept it in a glass cage and that they weren't going on my flight. But that's partly because I'm not sure it is safe.
I respect people who have a phobia, though. And I would never tease them by throwing a rubber spider at them.
I haven't studied all the MH traps yet. There are many that I haven't got yet - and many LE ones from before I joined, that I'll never get.
