That was quite a game today! I skipped my usual Sunday activities (soccer game) in order to watch. I screamed out loud both times US scored, and then I totally missed the final OT goal. I was watching and everything, but it was too quick.
I'm not sure if I'll watch the closing ceremonies.
I know its rather late, but I'm definitely glad Canada won. In my opinion, it means more to Canada than it would to the USA, because hockey really is Canada's game - and America has things like football, baseball, and basketball.
And, the closing ceremony was cool, too. I missed the first bit but the rest was awesome.
There was even a bit of a Narnia connection to the closing ceremony - Alanis Morrissette performed her song "Wunderkind" during the BC Place party that followed the official close of the games.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
I did end up watching the ceremony and it was very fun! During the enormous potpourri of Canada, my roommate said, "It's like Canada!: The Musical." We both thought that was very funny.
I thought that Sochi's presentation was very cool. Hopefully their opening ceremonies will be similar. All that ice!
Well, the games are done; and they were good. We'll be back in 2 years! Only instead, we (or, us Yanks anway) will be cheering on an older Michael Phelps, some currently-unknown Midwestern 16 year-old gymnasts, our usually lackluster soccer teams, and a whole slew of other athletic greats who will mesmerize us for two weeks.
Well, at least it went into overtime...I was feeling really bummed until those last 24 seconds. xD
Yeah me too, I thought for sure it was over at 2-1 but then the US scored and I was almost screaming .
During OT I had to keep telling myself it was just a game lol, but I still pulled my hair when Canada won. Oh well it was still an awesome game.
Closing ceremony seemed kinda goofy and silly to me, but that kinda made it likeable.
I watched a little of the closing ceremonies, but I turned it off an hour in as I was rather tired. It sounds like I missed all the good stuff! Although I saw the Russian culture bit, and since it actually made sense, it was quite enjoyable. I'll admit I don't enjoy the ceremonies most of the time because to me, they don't make sense...just a bunch of theatrics and dramatics with smoke and songs and peoples dancing around, representing the culture of the host country... okay... But the Russian parts that I saw were very neat. Like Kate said, let's hope the ceremonies for 2014 will be like the presentation last evening!
And the Olympics are over. Wow! I've been waiting for them since 2003, believe it or not, informally counting down the days, and now it's over. But what an Olympics they were! I had such fun watching the events with various different family members, and being able to spend time with my family (okay, even if it was around the television), and for me, I think that's one of the things the Olympics are about.

The hockey game was sure a nail-biter! But I was very proud to be a Canadian.
I saw nearly two hours of the closing ceremonies, but taped the rest to watch it later this week. It's been so much fun watching the various events and of course, seeing Canada set the record on most gold medals won in the Winter Olympics. Like you mentioned, ForeverFan, the Olympics were great to sit around watch with the family, as it gave us a common ground to talk about.
Since 2003? *ish confused* The Olympics are only on even years, aren't they? Last winter Olympics was in 2006, last summer Olympics was in 2008...Hmmm...
Yes, the Russian presentation at the closing ceremony was very cool. My friend and I both agreed that we wanted a turn running around in those human-sized glowing hamster-balls that the Russians had. They looked like fun!

@ Sweeet: Oh yes! Sorry for confusing you! 2003 is when Canada found out they would be host to the Olympic games in 2010.
Hehe! Those balls were indeed interesting!
The hockey game was sure a nail-biter! But I was very proud to be a Canadian.
Yes! It was so incredible to be Canadian last night, eh? Just a very special feeling knowing that I was part of the millions of people across the country and even across the world (I think of the soldiers in Kandahar) who were celebrating as well, even if I only watched the game at home, with my family, and saw no one else, or celebrated with them.

That was a great Olympics. Canada won the most golds, USA won the most medals. We're both happy
I bet the Russian ceremony will have a completely different feel than the Canadian one. Probably very serious lol.
But for now I'm glad the olympics are over, I was getting sick of the olympic-oriented commercials (like visa - "go world"... go world? Against who? lol)
When we were talking about Figure Skating a lot of you mentioned that you really enjoyed Scott Hamilton's comments, I agrees, he was such an amazing skater and really knows what he's talking about.
I've been really excited because some friends of mine who are in Vancouver actually got to MEET him! Seriously, they just happened to have seats next to him at the USA vs. FIN game! Which means I'm 2 people away from knowing Michelle Kwan and Evan Lysacek, how cool is that???
If this Sig is by you please let me know, because I can't remember

Coolness! A girl at my church was hired to cater for the Athlete's Village, so she met Luongo and Joannie Rochette and a bunch of other people...everyone who knows her is deeply jealous, I think
I babysat for the Canadian snowboard team's physical therapist. My one sad claim to fame. LOL.
My family was sick for most of the Olympics so we mostly sat around watching TV--I have NEVER watched that much TV in my life, ever. Now back to the closet the television goes, until London in 2012... My favourite part of the closing ceremonies was the Russian national anthem, that was awesome. The rest, meh. I didn't watch the whole thing.
Is anyone going to be keeping up with the Paralympics at all? It's not as big an event, of course, but I find it interesting, especially sledge hockey

I can't make any claim to Olympic connections, except that I've been to Vancouver and environs a couple of times.
Alyosha, the Russian anthem's melody is one of my favorites. It's so majestic. And the performance in Vancouver was excellent.
2014 (or 2012) seems like a mighty long time. My TV will get a much-needed rest in the meantime.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
Yeah, my family barely ever watches TV except during the Olympics. The television will certainly get a rest until the next Olympics, compared to what we've been putting it through.
Though truly, we didn't watch that much. Nonetheless, I enjoyed it.
London? I didn't know that the Summer Olympics were in London! Cool!
