Pattertwig's Pal, my little brothers were into Care Bears in the early 80's, so I remember them quite well. They even had some of the toys (the Cloud Car, the Rainbow Roller, and some playset that looked like a cloud with a bunch of Care Beary decorations inside. There was also a line of animals that were related in some fashion to the Care Bears (I remember there was an elephant and a lion, and I think a monkey of some type). It's just been so long I can't remember.
And with all the TV shows mentioned I'm kinda surprised no one's brought up Growing Pains yet! Young Kirk Cameron...he was a pretty funny guy. The show kind of always played second fiddle to Family Ties, but it was still a pretty good show. I think it's out on DVD now too.

Funny that Scarecrow and Mrs King should come up...a long-time friend likes that show. The season 1 DVD was obtained this week, and some episodes were viewed. Ah, the memories.
References to Care Bears - I have nieces into the recently remade video version - remind me of another 80s show that I actually never saw when it aired, but later came to my attention as one of the inspirations behind the genesis of the 1990s animated Gargoyles - Disney's Adventures of the Gummi Bears. This show led to the Disney Afternoon show block in later years and with it the animated boom of the late 80s and 90s. I obtained the seasons 1-3 DVD because of the Gargoyles recommendation, and found it reasonably entertaining.
Voices were provided by some familiar names: June Foray (Rocky and Bullwinkle), Lorenzo Music (Garfield), Will Ryan (Eugene Meltsner in the video versions of Adventures in Odyssey), and Paul Winchell (Tigger) among others.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
This was my decade. Middle school-high school
I remember and had many of the things already mentioned in this thread. So many movies, TV shows (by this time, we had cable because we lived in Arizona and that was the only way to get any TV there.) One of my favorite channels was Nickelodeon with "You Can't Do That On Television"--the beginnings of the signature green slime!
I listened to Christian and secular music; liked most of it.
And I remember so many mornings of curling those bangs and hairspraying them until they wouldn't move! And leg warmers...ugh. And Levi's 501's. Acid wash jeans.
Living in rural Arizona, we have really beautiful nighttime skies and I remember seeing Halley's Comet. I remember being disappointed after all the hype about it.
(Hale Bopp was much more impressive).
I went out of the country for the first time (1986 for my brother's wedding in Vancouver, BC and got to go to Expo 86; 1987 for a tour of Europe via a school tour; and 1988-Mazatlan Mexico-and that's all I'm going to say about that).
I graduated from high school in 1989 and met a very cute guy that same year and we started dating in June. He is now known (here at least) as ceppault.

That would have been cool to have a play set. I didn't have a Care Bear one but I did have a My Little Pony one. The other animals were called Care Bear Cousins. I tend to refer to the all of them as Care Bears although that isn't strictly correct. Let's see there was a Lamb (my sister got that at the yard sale), a Penguin (my sister also got that at the yard sale), an elephant (my sister has that), a dog (I have a mini version), a lion (Brave heart lion?)(I have a mini version), a raccoon (Bright Heart?), a pig, a monkey (Playful Heart) (I have a mini one of that two), a cat, a rabbit, and a horse (I think).
Here are the pictures I mentioned. I really should stop saying "soon" it's been over three months since I meant to post them.
For stargazer:
Obviously this wasn't mine in the eighties. It would have been way to big. It was a hand-me-down. The date on it is 1987. It is kind of small to read.
