When we first saw the trailer for Tangled, we thought it was for an animated Robin Hood or something, seeinf Flynn and all. Then when we saw all the flying hair and everything, we were like 'ok, this is weeeeird...'. I thought we'd never see it. Then a friend of mine had seen it, and everyone on NW seemed to have Tangled banners *points to Mountie* . So we got it from the library to watch on my 18th birthday. I thought that'd be fitting. Anyway, we fell in love with it (even my brother likes it and my dad finds Rapunzel's quick switches from happy to guilty hilarious (as do I!)), and I bought it with some birthday money. It is actually playing right now while I'm on the comp as my sis watches it,
I love the first song Rapunzel sings (watch Pascal in that sequence, soooo cute!!) and Mother Knows Best is funny. "Take it from your Mumsy" Lol! I have to say, I really like Rapunzel, and the mostest cutest chameleon EVER is Pascal! Wanna know what's fun? Just watch Pascal. Often people are looking at Rapunzel or Flyyn and miss some adorable moments!! So watch Pascal, and DON'T call him a frog. XD

You suck a lollipop, and you sing a song. Get it right, Jo!
Rapunzel has to be one of my all time favorite stories. I was terrified that Disney would mess it up with Tangled. However, I was more than pleasantly surprised at how well Disney did with the story. Even better, it came at a time when I chopped off all my long hair to donate to Locks of Love. I must admit that I felt a little like Rapunzel.
I loved Pascal. He was cute and witty! Maximus wasn't really as endearing until 2/3 of the way through the movie when he was actually helping Flynn and Rapunzel instead of being an Inspector Javert type of horse.
I found the Flynn and Rapunzel relationship very sweet and I'm glad they wrote it more from the Prince's point of view. That iron frying pan must have hurt intensely though. I was pretty shocked at the amount of times Rapunzel knocked him out with it. That was a most funny scene. Baby Rapunzel was so cutely animated.
And the ending made me shed a few tears. I had never cried at a Disney movie since Beauty and the Beast.

I really loved Tangled, what made it even more special for me was that I watched it for my 18th birthday
I think my favorite character would be Flynn Rider, I loved everything about his character, I enjoyed Pascal too. One thing I loved about Rapunzel was she was this happy bouncy really naive girl, and I really enjoyed that. I loved the story, it did keep a few elemants of the original fairy tale while giving it a whole new story. It was a fun twist and I really enjoyed it. I did think the songs were a little cheesy, but they were cute. I think the ending was my favorite part, where Flynn cuts off Rapunzel's hair, then dies and is brought back to life by Rapunzel's tear. I really loved the cartoon and have added it to one of my favorites

Believe it or not I have not seen this movie, although Wifester has. We've got it on hold at the library and I should be able to watch it in a few days.

I still haven't seen Tangled despite wanting too. All my friends said it was great. I'll have to check it out sometime. I was just curious, how closely does it follow the original Rapunzel story?

The movie was pretty good, although a bit predictable like most Disney movies. I like how there was some modern comedy without being too crude. A lot of movies have that crude humor that make them less enjoyable. Other than that it was very cute and the characters were very likable.
Valiant, there isn't really an "original" Rapunzel story. At least, I should probably say that there are a lot of "original" Rapunzel stories. I've heard several of them myself.
So it really depends on which one you're talking about. I think it was very much "Rapunzel" if you know what I mean. It was very recognizable as a "Rapunzel" story.

I watched Tangled for my 20th birthday and now love it! It's so sweet and beautiful. Here are a few of my favorites:
Favorite scene: the paper lantern release on Rapunzel's birthday
Favorite song: I'm not big on songs generally, but I liked I've Got a Dream
Favorite character: Rapunzel.
I do have one question, and I want to see what you all think:
I have a couple of theories on why he did it, but I don't find them that believable.

Which does everyone prefer: Pascal or Maximus?
Maximus. He was awesome --- in a cute, dog-like way.
As for my favorite scene, I have to agree with stargazer - the one with Rapunzel and Flynn out in the boat, watching the Chinese lanterns takes the spot for me. It was beautiful.

), and that's a big part of why i like this movie.
I think i liked Maximus better - both he and Pascal were great, but some of Maximus' moments (not recognizing Flynn from his wanted poster until he covered the nose, chewing it up like a paper shredder, giving Flynn that teasing look in the "Kingdom Dance" sequence).
I wasn't a huge fan of the songs, but some aren't too bad, and the "Kingdom Dance" score is awesome.

To Adeona's question:
I like Maximus the best. I mean, Pascal was funny, and he had character, but not as much as Max.

I wasn't really a fan of the random burts into song back when they were used in classic Disney movies, and I'm even less of a fan of them today. Especially when they go over the top. Like when someone is alone, and they start singing a big musical number, and randomly, out of nowhere, appears an orchestra and grand staircase, and a spotlight. Just a little too much.
I'm not much on musical numbers myself, and for many of the same reasons. The music has to be really, really spectacular for me to like them having added it into the film in the first place, and only 2 movies succeed for me in that department; The original Wizard of Oz and the older Willie Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. Call me weird, it's ok.
I watched the movie tonight and really enjoyed it. I knew some stuff about it because Mountie likes to use her frying pan a lot . It was a surprisingly touching story for a Disney movie given that they tend to pump out a lot of movies that are variations on a theme (damsel in distress, handsome prince kinda stuff, same basic plotlines, etc.) but this was a pleasant surprise to me. My favorite part is when those hooligans are all breaking Flynn out of prison and the mime stops the soldiers chasing Flynn with his mime shenanigans Good stuff! Nice movie, one I wouldn't mind owning someday.

Arwenel and Elanor: thanks for your input! I really like your explanation, Elanor. It kinda twines in with Arwenel's, in fact.
My theories were pretty much along the lines of:
Or else, as Arwenel said,
I have to say, they sound a lot more plausible the way you two explain things.
I'm sorry it took me so long to reply!
Regarding Maximus and Pascal, I definitely like Maximus better. He's a lot more humorous, imo, and also contributes more to the story. Pascal has some great moments, but I also find him vaguely annoying...
