Thanks for those answers, Kate.

A few more comments before I rewatch it today:

Spoiler
What if it's not MiB animating Sayid, but Jacob? Perhaps he found a loophole of his own - Jacob did tell Hurley to bring Sayid and the guitar case to the Temple.

And consider that Flocke couldn't appear as both himself and the Smoke Monster at the same time (unless that was some deception on his part) - so perhaps he cannot appear as two people at the same time?

His role as the Smoke Monster makes a lot of sense considering its behavior last season (appearing as Alex and telling Ben to obey Locke). But earlier speculation about the Monster in a judging role makes me wonder if it's as clear cut as good (Jacob) vs. evil (Nemesis). Judges usually have a more neutral role in dispensing justice.

And if you've seen the premiere

Spoiler
you may enjoy revisiting this 2009 Comic-Con promotional ad showing what would have been: Hugo as the "lucky" owner of Mr Cluck's, and Oceanic Air's perfect safety record. "Our skies lead to your destiny" seems a rather appropriate tagline.

A bit of trivia:

Spoiler
In the opening island-underwater scene, right before the statue's foot appears, there's a shark with the Dharma logo on its tail - just like the one that swam around Sawyer and Michael on the raft in season 2. So when did the island sink in the alternate timeline? During the 1977 Jughead detonation, perhaps.

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

Gazer, I LOVE the idea of

Spoiler
Jacob "inhabitating" Sayid. At least then Sayid gets to stay on the show, and he's not a bad guy.

On the subject of

Spoiler
dead bodies etc. It seems that now popular opinion is that all the dead bodies we've been seeing have been actually MIB. But...I sort of think Hurley is different, and the people he sees (Charlie, Jacob) are actualy the real dead people. What do you think?

About

Spoiler
Charlie trying to die. Maybe it's like he has the destiny, like on the island, of having to die soon. So he knew that...or something?

Spoiler
Also, Miles is AWESOME. :D I can't believe you don't like him, Kate! :'( And Jack really bugged me, as usual, but at least as you said he went along with Hurley's crazy plan. Kate was her usual self, I really liked seeing her back in the airport in the other reality.

Spoiler
You know how when Jack is trying to save Charlie, he's all like "a pen! do you have a pen?" and he's searching for a pen in his jacket? Well, a)I thought it was a hint to when he's trying to save Rose in the beginning of episode 1 and gets Boone to run around asking people for pens...but...I think that Kate stole his pen, when she came out of the bathroom and bumped into him. Because she probably wouldn't have had it on her before she got on the plane, and it looked like a very nice pen.

Yeay! :D

Spoiler
I'm definitely a Miles fan!! I think he is made of awesome. B-) Admittedly, Juliet could've just told Sawyer and saved a whole bunch of time. This whole 'duel time line' thing is really enjoyable, it's like the best of both worlds!!

I was syked to see Desmond on the plane - he was so underused last series. The plane scenes where pretty strange to watch, seeing everyone again. Boone! :(( Charlie! :(( (I agree, I think him trying to kill himself was a shout out to the 'destiny' malarkey).

Poor Richard, Unlocke (Fantastic name, by the way) is scarily awesome, but still - poor Richard! Him being on the Black Rock is a theory a like, I can't wait to hopefully find out about his past!!

All in all, it has the Claire-ayes seal of approval!

About

Spoiler
The "Triangle". I wouldn't mind it so much if Kate and either Jack or Sawyer ended up together eventually. But no more of this waffling between the two guys. Just pick one, and be done with it! And if it was Sawyer, they'd have to wait an awfully long time so we could forget about Juliet. Maybe Kate/Sawyer will just be more friends now, still close, but not romanticly...hm, is that even possible.

Ooh, this is hilarious! (No spoilers)

In rewatching it just now, I couldn't help noticing that

Spoiler
many of the characters in the alternate LAX reality seem worse off than their counterparts in the 'original' reality: Charlie's trying to kill himself, not having undergone his trials and redemption that lead him to be the guy who gives up his life for his friends; Kate is in handcuffs and hijacks a cab after knocking out Mars; Sun and Jin's marriage is either in trouble or may not have happened (the customs officer calls her "Ms Paik"); Locke is in his wheelchair.

Still, some seem better off: Hurley's a CEO, the "luckiest man on earth" ; and Boone, Shannon, and Juliet (the latter 2 presumably) are still alive somewhere.

And I thought it was nice that Greg Grunberg, who's still busy playing Matt Parkman in Heroes, was tapped for the voice cameo of his character in the first episode, 815 pilot Seth Norris.

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

Also, do you think that

Spoiler
Locke was lying when he was telling Boone about his walkabout experience? I thought so, because we see he's still in the wheelchair, but others think that he actually did do that, in the alternate universe.

Oooh, and

Spoiler
I really want Sawyer and Kate to band together in LA. That'd be awesome. I loved their interaction in the elevator. I did really like Juliet/Sawyer but I was always a Skate fan, and in this reality, Juliet doesn't even know them!

Definitely watch this video of Cuse and Lindelof together on Jimmy Kimmel. They actually agree to play Kimmell's game of "Coincidence or Not?" about the first episode:
*spoilers* here There's also a part two...

Glad to see everyone enjoyed last night's episode of Sliders...er...Lost. ;))

Spoiler
I was thoroughly pumped up to see it and watched most of the "recap" episode between trips to the kitchen cooking dinner. I love how there are now two divergent timelines occurring; the first zapping the cast from the end of last season to current time and the other taking place on a Flight 815 that never crashed and lands safely at LAX (shout out to Greg Grunberg, as stargazer pointed out, for his brief cameo as the "voice" of 815 pilot Seth Norris).

Finally we see the Temple, and it's a Mayan style pyramid. Apparently the water was clear at one point and now is rusty brown colored...I suspect this was responsible for what happened to Sayid at the end of the episode.

Also of note...I've always been a Jack fan and I was glad to see him start fisticuffs with some Others at the end. I looked over at my wife and said "Jack's back!". Awesome. It's not Lost unless Jack is being stubborn and is pummeling someone into a bloody pulp. ;))

And we always knew the Smoke Monster could manifest itself into physical human form...I just wasn't expecting him to assume unLocke form. I'm still holding to my "Lost Island is Atlantis" theory. And I'm not sure that Richard Alpert being "in chains" means he was decisively on the Black Rock...like many other things in this show there's a ton of misdirection at any given time.

Just finished rewatching the episode, A few things that I've heard people notice are

Spoiler
1. When ever Charlie is dying it always involves the throat, like him drowning, hanging from a tree, shot in the throat with an arrow, and now with season six Jack saves him from choking to death. I'm not sure if this is significant but it is interesting.

I thought it was interesting that Desmond disappeared right after Jack saved Charlie and Charlie told Jack that he was supposed to die. :-

Another Theory I’ve heard is that when we see the “Alternate Reality” maybe it’s not a alternate reality all but is the result of what is going to happen in up coming episodes.
Example: In the first episode of Season 5, we see Faraday in a Dharma jumpsuit in 1977, we had no idea why or how he ended up back in time until a few episodes later when we see the events leading up to that scene.
Maybe it’s the same with the “Alternate Reality” scenes. What if what we are seeing is the result of something that has not yet happened and is being led up to. I’m not sure if I’m making any sense. :-

Oh, and I can’t wait to see more of Ben and Flock (Smoky) together. :D ;)

Here is a List of the Upcoming Episodes:
WARNING there may be spoilers
http://spoilerslost.blogspot.com/search ... de%20Guide

I am really looking forward to Episode 9: Ab Aeterno, the Richard centered episode and Episode 4: The Substitute, centered on Locke. :D

7 Chronicles:

Spoiler
Cuse and Lindelof reveal in the video I posted previously that Desmond's disappearance after Charlie's appearance is a coincidence. We still don't really know where/why he left though...

And thanks for the episode names. In the casting call for "LA X," they cast someone named

Spoiler
"Lennon" who is clearly the translator in the temple. I laughed at his name. It's very appropriate...

I don't really want this thread to be a reiterance of the theories of others, but I did find one theory that was very well thought out and interesting that I think may have some merit to it:

Spoiler
The general gist is that the Plane Timeline is a flashforward to the end. The theory puts forth that Charlotte's last mumblings about chocolate and Juliette's about coffee are them seeing a future off the island. They suggest that Jack will decide that if he can move the island to underwater, then the plane can never crash. He will do this; involving much drama, and then when they end up on the plane, Jack is the only one who remembers and that's why he seems worried and asks Desmond if he's seen him before. The theorist does not, however, take into account the fact that Desmond and Jack have met before in that stadium where they were running.

I think it's a very well thought out theory. It explains how the island ends up underwater unscathed (no explosion evidence). If you want the original link, let me know.

That theory is quite interesting, Kate. I think it has merit.

Regarding

Spoiler
Richard's chains: While the Black Rock connection somehow jumped out at me right away, Shadowlander's right: nothing's ever as direct as it may seem. It could be even be a metaphorical reference to Richard's being under Jacob: a 'code' that tells Richard that Jacob is dead. That would account for Richard's reaction to that line.

Shadowlander,

Spoiler
the comparison to Sliders is well-taken. I wonder how much of an inspiration that show may have been for this season's plotline.

I think this dual plotline allows the best of both worlds: an exploration of 'what if the crash never occurred' (though it's not just a reset since things have changed), while at the same time following an alternate Island timeline that (apparently) preserves much of the growth and character development the series has produced to date - that is, avoiding likely fan frustration had they just presented a reset which throws out all that's happened in the last 5 seasons.

The second part of the Jimmy Kimmell interview Kate linked above listed the air date for the series finale. So you can plan your spring. ;) The date is

Spoiler
Sunday, May 23 (the week before US Memorial Day weekend).

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

Stargazer, how much do you want to bet that

Spoiler
while in the timeline we've been following Locke is dead, but he's still alive in the alternate timeline, and that Locke (and I imagine perhaps a few others as well ;) ) will end up back on the island in some form or fashion? ;)) They did this is one episode of ST: Voyager in which a split timeline occurred and in one Harry Kim is sucked out of a hull breach into space and the Harry Kim from the divergent timeline "jumped" to the ship his counterpart had recently "vacated". I'm curious if they'll use something along those lines...especially considering the Locke Problem.

This show has intense misdirection going on. For the first hour I was convinced VL was right in her theory that Juliet was pregnant (enough so that I looked over at my wife and said "Val was right! She's pregnant!", even though my wife had no idea who I was talking about ;)) ). She may still have been but if she was she had a rather cryptic way of saying it before her death rattle hit.

I can barely wait for next week's episode!
