Thanks for those answers, Kate.
A few more comments before I rewatch it today:
And consider that Flocke couldn't appear as both himself and the Smoke Monster at the same time (unless that was some deception on his part) - so perhaps he cannot appear as two people at the same time?
His role as the Smoke Monster makes a lot of sense considering its behavior last season (appearing as Alex and telling Ben to obey Locke). But earlier speculation about the Monster in a judging role makes me wonder if it's as clear cut as good (Jacob) vs. evil (Nemesis). Judges usually have a more neutral role in dispensing justice.
And if you've seen the premiere
A bit of trivia:

I haven't seen LOST before, but just in case you guys don't know, iTunes has alot of The Final Season available for free! Just so you know...
Yeay!
I was syked to see Desmond on the plane - he was so underused last series. The plane scenes where pretty strange to watch, seeing everyone again. Boone! Charlie! (I agree, I think him trying to kill himself was a shout out to the 'destiny' malarkey).
Poor Richard, Unlocke (Fantastic name, by the way) is scarily awesome, but still - poor Richard! Him being on the Black Rock is a theory a like, I can't wait to hopefully find out about his past!!
All in all, it has the Claire-ayes seal of approval!
I Loved Lost last night, I can't wait for next week to get more answers!!!!!!!!!

In rewatching it just now, I couldn't help noticing that
Still, some seem better off: Hurley's a CEO, the "luckiest man on earth" ; and Boone, Shannon, and Juliet (the latter 2 presumably) are still alive somewhere.
And I thought it was nice that Greg Grunberg, who's still busy playing Matt Parkman in Heroes, was tapped for the voice cameo of his character in the first episode, 815 pilot Seth Norris.

Definitely watch this video of Cuse and Lindelof together on Jimmy Kimmel. They actually agree to play Kimmell's game of "Coincidence or Not?" about the first episode:
*spoilers* here There's also a part two...
Glad to see everyone enjoyed last night's episode of Sliders...er...Lost.
Finally we see the Temple, and it's a Mayan style pyramid. Apparently the water was clear at one point and now is rusty brown colored...I suspect this was responsible for what happened to Sayid at the end of the episode.
Also of note...I've always been a Jack fan and I was glad to see him start fisticuffs with some Others at the end. I looked over at my wife and said "Jack's back!". Awesome. It's not Lost unless Jack is being stubborn and is pummeling someone into a bloody pulp.
And we always knew the Smoke Monster could manifest itself into physical human form...I just wasn't expecting him to assume unLocke form. I'm still holding to my "Lost Island is Atlantis" theory. And I'm not sure that Richard Alpert being "in chains" means he was decisively on the Black Rock...like many other things in this show there's a ton of misdirection at any given time.

Just finished rewatching the episode, A few things that I've heard people notice are
I thought it was interesting that Desmond disappeared right after Jack saved Charlie and Charlie told Jack that he was supposed to die.
Another Theory I’ve heard is that when we see the “Alternate Reality” maybe it’s not a alternate reality all but is the result of what is going to happen in up coming episodes.
Example: In the first episode of Season 5, we see Faraday in a Dharma jumpsuit in 1977, we had no idea why or how he ended up back in time until a few episodes later when we see the events leading up to that scene.
Maybe it’s the same with the “Alternate Reality” scenes. What if what we are seeing is the result of something that has not yet happened and is being led up to. I’m not sure if I’m making any sense.
Oh, and I can’t wait to see more of Ben and Flock (Smoky) together.
Here is a List of the Upcoming Episodes:
WARNING there may be spoilers

I am really looking forward to Episode 9: Ab Aeterno, the Richard centered episode and Episode 4: The Substitute, centered on Locke.

I don't really want this thread to be a reiterance of the theories of others, but I did find one theory that was very well thought out and interesting that I think may have some merit to it:
I think it's a very well thought out theory. It explains how the island ends up underwater unscathed (no explosion evidence). If you want the original link, let me know.
That theory is quite interesting, Kate. I think it has merit.
Regarding
Shadowlander,
I think this dual plotline allows the best of both worlds: an exploration of 'what if the crash never occurred' (though it's not just a reset since things have changed), while at the same time following an alternate Island timeline that (apparently) preserves much of the growth and character development the series has produced to date - that is, avoiding likely fan frustration had they just presented a reset which throws out all that's happened in the last 5 seasons.
The second part of the Jimmy Kimmell interview Kate linked above listed the air date for the series finale. So you can plan your spring. The date is
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
Stargazer, how much do you want to bet that
This show has intense misdirection going on. For the first hour I was convinced VL was right in her theory that Juliet was pregnant (enough so that I looked over at my wife and said "Val was right! She's pregnant!", even though my wife had no idea who I was talking about ). She may still have been but if she was she had a rather cryptic way of saying it before her death rattle hit.
I can barely wait for next week's episode!
