I honestly don't know what to say. I'm still very confused. It's kind of ashame, I called this the best show in the world ever yet some things are still not explained.

What was the purpose of

Spoiler
the Dharma, The Others and the psychic guy?
These things were never fully explained. I'm a little disappointed.

I don't want to give anything away, but for those of you who have to wait to see the finale, it is definitely worth it. I think the writers did a great job!

Goodbye LOST, we will miss you...

I am not a Lostie. ;)) The finale is worth the wait.

“Safe?” said Mr. Beaver; “don’t you hear what Mrs. Beaver tells you? Who said anything about safe? ‘Course he isn’t safe. But he’s good. He’s the King, I tell you.”

On a lost board, someone wrote:

Spoiler
"Maybe the message is something like: you get born, you die, and the only important things in between are your connections with others during the time you've got. The other stuff doesn't matter, which is why we didn't get any answers. Because in life you don't get many answers either, and then you die."
Which I think sums it up pretty nicely. :)

That sums up everything to me! :)

My sister just told me this, and it makes total sense, the whole ending

Spoiler
totally reminded us of the ending of The Last Battle, so beautiful and touching, it just stays with you! And pulls at your heart to the place you’ve always longed for , your true home! :D :)

Spoiler
After taking it all in, It was so amazingly awesome! It was just so beautiful… I have to watch it again! :D
To see everyone together was just incredible!
It really was a beautiful story about all of these character that we have come to know and Love, and it was told from Jack’s point of view, to see his eye close just as it opened in the beginning was such an amazing scene!
Locke walking and forgiving Ben, Jack realizing that he had died, everyone who had lost a loved one to together again with the ones they loved, it was so powerful, I'm getting teary eyed just thinking about it :(( :(( :(( :(( :) , what an amazing show and what a ride! :)
I think Michael Emerson and Terry O'Quinn summed it all up best, I feel like I have just finished reading a really good book!
Good-bye LOST, Thanks for an incredible story! :D :D :) :) :(( :((

You do have a brilliant point there 7chronicles! While thinking about the episode I started thinking about

Spoiler
Narnia and Last Battle's ending.
It makes complete sense now. I was comparing the beginning to the end. IDK I still wanna rewatch everything. I'll start on that tomorrow.

Well, what a wild ride! I feel conflicted.

Spoiler
It seems pretty clear to me that the island was real life. Christian calls the years on the island the "most important years of your life." The main plot is that of the island: they have to take care of the island, Jacob has to protect it, kill Smokey, and keep candidates around in case something happens to him. Jack protected the island, and passed it on to Hurley at the end. Hurley, Desmond, Ben, Vincent, Rose, and Bernard will live out their years on the island or chill on the mainland as Ben suggested.

I think it's unfortunate that the main plot of the show with the island and the ways it changed the characters that ended up there was somewhat lost in the confusion of the flash sideways. Though they chose to end that aspect less than satisfactorily, the Island is resolved.

As for the sideways reality, I have no idea what went on there.

I have to say, I'm proud to have been loyal to Jack all along. He was always my favorite. A lot people greatly disliked him, but I had faith in him. He was so flawed but tried so hard to be good! And I've always been a Jate person. I feel like their declarations of love were a little forced and out of the blue, but I was glad to see them together in the end.

Why do you think they showed the plane wreckage at the end? There were no bodies to be seen...

W4J: There were some suspicious looking rocks, but other than that it was really pretty good on the visuals.

Those are great, Valiant_Lucy! Especially the one with

Spoiler
Nikki and Paolo as the final Candidates.

I rewatched "The End" this morning and feel pretty pleased with it overall; I caught a number of things I missed in the excitement last night. More comments:

Spoiler
It does appear that the Island reality *is* what really happened, especially with Christian's remarks at the end to that effect. The explanation that the sideways-reality is a sort of "holding place" for everyone - whether dead in "regular reality" or not - seems a little goofy to me right now, but it does allow the preservation of one of the show's main time-travel tenets: "Whatever happened, happened." The integrity of the Island timeline is respected this way, and it explains the presence of 'doubles' like Ben and Hurley, who are both alive in each timeline at the show's end.

Did anyone else notice the

Spoiler
stained-glass window in the church room holding the coffin? It had 6 religious symbols: those for Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Taoism (the yin-yang), Buddhism (the wheel, or Dharmacakra) and Hinduism (and related religions) (the Aum). (I had to look up the last one ;) ). Seems unlikely for a typical one-religion church, but this is Hollywood, I guess. ;)

And I thought it ironic that this church, one of the main centers of sideways-action as things wrapped up, is the same one that hides the Lamp Post Station in the Island timeline. I couldn't help wondering if it's hiding under there here.

A few quotes I liked:

Spoiler
Hurley's Star Wars references:

"He's worse than Yoda" (referring to Jacob), almost immediately followed by "I've got a bad feeling about this."

"I don't believe in a lot of things, but I do believe in duct tape." - Miles

Ford: "It's all right; I'm a cop."
Juliet: "Maybe you should read the machine its rights."

A few highlights I really liked:

Spoiler
-Kate redeems herself in the Island timeline by rescuing Claire (convincing her to leave on the Ajira plane).
- The series first and oldest relationship (Jack and his father) is reconciled in the alternate timeline.
- Ben apologizing to Locke, and John forgiving him, in the alternate timeline.
- Juliet taking the ultrasound of Ji Yeon, with Jin and Sun remembering a similar experience on the Island.
- The birth of Aaron, accompanied by Kate and Charlie. I especially liked this because I felt Claire and Charlie worked well together to care for Aaron back on the Island - or it's just my paternal instinct showing up. ;))
- The meshing of Juliet's "we could go dutch" line in the alternate timeline with her saying it as she died back on the Island in the season premiere.
- The series coming full circle: Island-Jack returning to the bamboo forest where it all began (with Vincent!) and ending with his eye closing rather than opening. Nice touch!

One minor remaining question, among others:

Spoiler
The "island bleedover" into the alternate reality was experienced by many people when they touched in this, or recent episodes. Often those people had some sort of relationship on the Island, and/or had died. Charlotte and Dan met these conditions, yet when the touched hands (before the concert) - while some sort of recognition seemed to pass between them - there was no "rememberance montage" like those others had. This seems odd to me; they both died on the island and cared for each other. Perhaps it's some sort of error or oversight, but given the care with which the other characters were treated, it may have some significance I just haven't figured out yet. But I won't lose sleep over it. ;))

All in all, great finish! At the moment it seems more memorable to me than any of the Trek spinoff finales (and I'm a fan of most Trek) - but that could be partly because this one just aired last night.

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

@DamselJilPole: I don’t know if it would be to much of a spoiler to people, but maybe you should put a spoiler bar on your comment above when you mention

Spoiler
The Last Battles ending, sense most of us on here knows what happens at the end of Last Battle it might give away LOST’s ending. ;) But maybe I’m being over cautious. :p Just a thought. :)

I could hardly sleep last night

Spoiler
The scene where Jack was walking through the bamboo forest, and then the church scenes at the end were recycling through my head the whole night, over and over, I could not sleep! :(( ;)
I was so depressed all day that Jack died at the end, but I’m ok now, it was ok, because they were all together at the end, it’s just sad when you think about Kate and Sawyer and everyone else who loved him lived on knowing he had died there on the island. :(( :(( :(( :((
It was such a powerful ending, I can’t wait to watch it again! :)

Good news for those of us who want more LOST! :D The Sixth Season when it comes out on DVD, will have an additional twenty minutes of new footage that they were not able to squeeze into the Finale! :D
And also in the Sixth season will be a bonus with Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse where they explain

Spoiler
some of the questions that weren’t answered! :D

I wasn't able to watch on Sunday and so tonight was the first time my wife and I could catch the very last episode of our favorite show together.

Here goes...

Spoiler
I've read everyone else's comments and I have to admit to being a little confused by the ending. There's a literal ton of questions that haven't been answered and some of the ones that were answered weren't done adequately (like the genesis of the Smoke Monster). And I absolutely loved the last episode until Jack walked into the church. I saw the stained glass window behind him and said "Uh oh...". My wife said "What? What's wrong?" and I knew then what had happened. I think ;)).

Of course we're still trying to wrap our heads around the whole thing and figure out what had happened. My wife is in the same boat as I am...happy with it until the last 10 minutes or so (roughly when Jack enters the church). So far we've been able to determine the following...

- The Island is a real place, and everyone did indeed crash there

- The Island had been there for a very long time.

- At the conclusion Jack dies but Hugo becomes the new Jacob with Ben becoming his "Alpert", of sorts. Desmond is technically not stuck on the island as Hugo would be able to determine the new "rules" about whether or not people could come and go.

- The sideways universe is some form of purgatory...sorta

Things my wife and I are still puzzled about, with no answers for our questions include...

- How did the US Army find the Island in the 1950's?

- What is the Smoke Monster?

- Since my "Atlantis Theory" has basically been busted ;)) why does the Island have so many Greco-Roman-Egyptian ruins on it? And where did they come from?

- How did the Dharma Initiative find the Island? And even if they got leaked info from US Army archives how did they manage to find it anyways? How would they have known how to build/use the Lamp-post Station?

- Who was airdropping the Dharma Food by the Swan Station even though all but one of the DI had been killed off twenty years earlier?

- How did they make the Island move? (this one feels like a plot device)

- Where did the horse come from that Kate saw in an earlier season?

- What happened to all the Others? I know a bunch were killed due to attrition and various gunfights and such, but several episodes ago it was alluded to that many fled into the jungle. Where are they now?

Things my wife and I *think* we get but are still a bit cloudy on...

- We think that while the Island is a real, physical place it's supposed to be some sort of spiritual "conduit", separating the good people from the bad.

- The "Protector" of the Island, be it Jacob, the Others, or whoever, all speak Latin because that is the original language spoken by Jacob's step-mom. Still....kinda weird.

- The "Light" underneath the island is a McGuffin. ;))

Hmmm....*scratches his head*

So, to sum up, I'll simply link my favorite Lost youtube video of all time as it largely explains my reaction. Stick around for the end, it's well worth it. =)) (there's no spoilers in it :P)
