*Newbie*

Six episodes into the first season now and I am hooked, or very nearly getting hooked. Amazing show. I won't talk much more since you all are WAY ahead of where I am so I don't want to bore with "old news" :p

Season 1 Episode 7: The Moth

The show just took me on a high, just to have it come crashing down on me. Sawyer and Shannon didn't let him down like I thought they would when trying to get the signal. Sayid got the signal he wanted, and then bang! club to the head.

Charlie overcame his addiction. Jack got trapped, and I *know* that Kate likes him. There's definitely something between them. When she found out she tried going to the rescue, and when Jack came out she flew into his arms!

@narnian1: I like that episode :) , when we first watched it the disc started to skip so we watched it in mostly big chunks 8-} , I was finally able to re-watch the whole episode when they re-aired it on SyFy.
So are you watching one episode a day? :-

Not my intention to do one a day, everyday, Weekends I hope to do two a day like I did this weekend. I missed two days this week though. It's my first week with the show. As I go along I'll probably double-up everyday and quadruple on weekends.

I'll echo 7chronicles' encourage to post here, narnian1. It's fun to read a newer fan's perspective on the show, and you may pick up stuff we missed at first, or remind us of some detail that becomes important later.

This is especially true given

Spoiler
this season's intentional parallels and differences to season 1 in the flash-sideways universe.

I'm also reminded I need to review season 1. ;)) I neglected it in my series rewatch earlier, in preparation for the beginning of season 6.

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

Narnian1, yes, please share your Season 1 insights with us. I'm really intrigued as to how a first-time viewer sees the series.

Is The Moth the episode where they find the

cave?

I emailed one of the authors of the LOST Encyclopedia, Tara Bennett, with some questions about the book.
Here's her reply:

Hi Christian,

Thanks for seeking out a fellow Lost fan :) We're excited about all the fan interest in the Encyclopedia and it just inspires Paul Terry and I when we are strapped to our computers writing with freakish accuracy to make sure this is the Lost book fans deserve.

Here I asked about how/why the book has only 404 pages when the series is so complex.
As to your questions, ABC and DK set the page count.

Here I congratulated them on recruiting Gregg Nations - LOST Bible continuity script man to help them with their book.

I wish I had the power to compel Gregg Nations and the Lost staff to sign onto the book, but it's humbly the other way around. Damon and Carlton wanted a final book to wrap up their 6 year odyssey, they know DK does some of the top books in the industry and gratefully, they trusted Paul and I to be the best people to know their mythology and recreate it in this form. So we are thrilled that we are doing the heavy-lifting under the advisement and editorial direction of Gregg and the Lost team.

Finally, here I asked what would compel LOST fans to buy the book when LOSTpedia and other sites are available. Would the Encyclopedia just be a hard copy version of any number of these sites? Or something truly special.

As to further assuaging the fandom of Lostpedia and other internet repositories of Lost information that we are worthy of their attention and money, all I can say is this book is from the top. The internet is a fantastic place to gather resources and find wonderful materials and conversation, but I'd never write a book on anything just based on information gleaned from the internet. If we were to do that, you're right - what difference would this book have and what would its worth be?

Luckily, we are working with ABC and Lost so we have access to their entire library of actual resources of scripts, materials and insights that are official for the series. Everything in this book is canon, which you can't say about online resources. As fans we've all had six years to speculate and let our imaginations run with ideas, even if many of those ideas or theories have not been in line with Damon and Carlton's story. The Lost Encyclopedia filters out ALL speculation and reflects the entire story, in its entirety, with the intentions, facts and narrative that are from Damon and Carlton. If that doesn't sway a Lost fan, then I don't know what will :)

Hope you enjoy the book when it comes out and thanks for your enthusiasm!

Tara

No worries mate. The book comes out in hard-cover and will be released on August 24th, 2010 - the same day as the LOST Complete Collection (Seasons 1-6) on DVD/BlueRay.

It's the episode right after the one where they find it.

EDIT:
in the episode where Locke first kills a boar. I could have sworn he saw the "monster". Why then did he say he didn't? Did he really *not* see it? I *know* he did, why the lie? I like him, he later helped Charlie overcome his addiction.

Thanks for sharing info from that email, Warrior! At the very least I'll check out the Lost Encyclopedia when it comes out...but I'll likely end up purchasing it. :)

That's an excellent observation and question, narnian1. It does seem clear he saw the Monster in that episode. I'll resist saying more, because to explain Locke's experience with the Monster here would spoil upcoming plot points.

(Incidentally, others have mentioned Lostpedia and other fan sites. They offer tons of information about the series, but you may want to stay away from them for the time being...many entries have been updated with new revelations from seasons beyond the first, and thus you'd lose a lot of the mystery. I think it's more fun watching it unfold in front of you. :) )

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

thanks for not going further on me. FYI, to all, I may keep asking questions as I go on, but I really don't want none of them answered. It's just a habit I have to show my doubts and/or guesses.

I also won't go to any site to see,
I agree the best experience is to have it unfold in front of my as I go along.

PS.
I have a problem. I find myself continually thinking about LOST. I am now officially addicted it seems.

I am in 15min into the current episode, Ep 8. Theory:

Sayid was struck in the head and now he is trying to find out who did it. He just went to Locke, and he tried pinning it on Sawyer. Now, I don't believe his theory on how Sawyer could have done it. I do know he, Locke, was skinning the boar. But that doesn't mean it was at the same time.

Locke is where my confusion lies. He gives the food to the people, he helped Charlie in a wonderful way to overcome his addiction. So I know he is not all bad. But I do know he saw the "monster" and then lied about it. And now it seems like he's trying too hard to push the blame off himself. Was he the striker? Maybe not, but at the moment I am thinking he is. Though he is not all bad, he has a reason for not wanting to get off the island. What is it?
