Welcome to Jurassic Park!

This is the one and only spot to talk about the books and the movies that changed the way we view dinosaurs. Michael Crichton first published Jurassic Park in 1990 and wrote the sequel The Lost World in 1995. Steven Spielberg adapted both into film during the 1990’s and for the first time film goers were able to see realistic dinosaurs thanks to a lovely invention called “CGI.” In 2001 the film series became a trilogy with Joe Johnston’s Jurassic Park III
Since then it’s become a household name with various comics and videogames added to the franchise, however the fourth movie has been stuck in development for over ten years. Rumors began to resurface after Spielberg mentioned at last year’s Comic-Con that talks about a script had resumed. But the question still remains: will we ever see JPIV? In the meantime free to discuss anything you loved and hated about the franchise.

Some questions to get us started:

What was your favorite book moment?
What was the best thing they did in the movies?
What was the worst thing they did in the movies?
Have you ever read any of the comics or played any of the videogames?
What would you want to see in Jurassic Park IV?
What’s your favorite thing about the franchise?

Here’s the trailer to the first movie.

Oh and don’t forget about Stan Winston’s Animatronics

What was your favorite book moment?
Well, this isn't really a moment but... all of The Lost World. :P I felt the book was SO vastly superior to the movie.

What was the best thing they did in the movies?
Give Dr. Grant a kid complex (not liking kids) and making Hammond a more likable character, though sadly blinded by his childlike glee for bringing dinosaurs to life. Also, the visual effects (in all three movies).

What was the worst thing they did in the movies?
Make film 2. ;)) More precisely: bringing the T-Rex back to LA. There are also a lot of other gripes I have about the movie, but it mostly rests in the filmmaking/scripting department.

Have you ever read any of the comics or played any of the videogames?
I played a bit of the JPIII game for the GBA. Got bored with it rather fast. :P

What would you want to see in Jurassic Park IV?
I honestly don't know. In many ways, I wish they would leave it at a trilogy. I think they were running out of ideas by the time of 3... or at least, I feel they have used all the "good" ideas up with 3.

What’s your favorite thing about the franchise?
The dinosaurs? Oh! And of course the scores. Can't forget the scores... :D ;)

Avvie by the great Djaq!

What was your favorite book moment? Haven't read them.
What was the best thing they did in the movies? I don't know. I thought the CG was good.
What was the worst thing they did in the movies? Hmm, I don't know.
Have you ever read any of the comics or played any of the videogames? Nope.
What would you want to see in Jurassic Park IV? Umm, more of the same?
What’s your favorite thing about the franchise? It's cool, different, and exciting.

I guess I'm not super qualified to talk about Jurassic Park. I've only seen the first one.

What was your favorite book moment?

It's been so long since I read it I honestly can't remember. I recall liking the book but feeling that ultimately the movie was more streamlined and thus better.

What was the best thing they did in the movies?

Have the T-Rex eat the lawyer in JP1

What was the worst thing they did in the movies?

Make sequels.

Have you ever read any of the comics or played any of the videogames?

I owned a JP video game from when the movie was still relatively new. It came bundled with Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis for my video card at the time. I remember thinking it was unreasonably difficult ;)). Suffice it to say I spent much more of my time on the Indy game, which went on to become a major classic. There was also a board game for the movie which I had an opportunity to purchase at a thrift store once, but Wifester was with me and put her foot down, so there it probably still sits on the thrift store shelf. :(

What would you want to see in Jurassic Park IV?

Triceratops, please! More specifically Triceratops (or a herd of them) demolishing T-Rex. When you talk about the ultimate Classic Confrontation in the dinosaur world, it's by default going to be a Trike versus a T-Rex, and the Triceratops is going to give ol' Rex a serious run for his money. Go Triceratops!

What’s your favorite thing about the franchise?

The whole concept of bringing dinosaurs back to life via preserved DNA is pretty cool all by itself. You can say what you want about Michael Crichton but the man was an absolute genius for composing thoroughly fascinating plot ideas and equally gifted in having the ability to carry through with them to make a great story! :)

Ah, Jurassic Park! A movie that will always be one of my favorites.

What was your favorite book moment?

I started to read it once, but didn't get very far. It's definitely on my reading list.

What was the best thing they did in the movies?

In the first two movies, John William's score is absolutely fantastic, the effects are great for movies made before I was born, and the acting is top notch. I haven't seen JPIII.

What was the worst thing they did in the movies?

JPII has some poorly done parts, but I guess pretty much every movie does.

Have you ever read any of the comics or played any of the videogames?

I didn't even know the comics existed, but I have played a PC strategy game based on The Lost World called Chaos Island. It's actually pretty good, and the voice acting is done by the movie cast.

What would you want to see in Jurassic Park IV?

A wider variety of dinosaurs, and possibly bring back a couple of the actors.

What’s your favorite thing about the franchise?

The dinosaurs and the music!
