I finally had the chance to see Toy Story 3 in theaters yesterday and it was well worth the wait (VDT trailer included at this showing, a 2D showing. Much more thrilling on the big screen than a laptop). I really enjoyed the aniamted short, it was very exciting to see 2D animation included in a Pixar piece and the idea of 2D with 3D animation goes so well with the theme of the piece. 2D and 3D animation are as different from each other as night and day. Both have their own sets of qualities and belong in the same setting, but when brought together, they really shine.
On to Toy Story. The opening is great and ties in well with the previous openings from the first two films. Pixar is amazing. This is the first film that I have seen, in theaters or otherwise, that brought tears down my cheeks. I have choked up watching films before, but never actually had tears before (especially when
Was it my favorite Toy Story film? Well, it is really hard to pick just one favorite in the trilogy. It concludes the series well and I would say as a whole, all three Toy Story films make up my favorite Pixar film.

I was disappointed. I couldn't believe that's how they decided to end the series. It was not suppose to end that way.
I walked out upset.
The rest of the movie was really great, though. Just not the ending.

What was wrong with the ending, mm1991? I'm really surprised you said that, because everyone else I've talked to has thought it was a nearly perfect ending.

Was it the sadness/bittersweetness of the ending that made you dislike it so, mm1991? If so, I can understand your reaction a little better. Toy Story 3 really puts you through the wringer, especially during those last ten minutes or so, and sometimes I may just pretend that the story ended with the second film, because that was a more "easy" conclusion. But just because the third film's ending was emotionally trying doesn't make it bad, IMHO. And I saw it coming - if it came at you out of the blue, I can understand how it might take more getting used to.
I always liked Buzz just a little better than Woody and his hilarious Spanish-ness just solidified that for me.
See, I've always liked Woody best, and found him the most "human" of the two. I think that's also why Toy Story 2 is my favorite of the three - from an emotional standpoint, that's really Woody's film, while the original is shared more equally between Woody and Buzz. I'm not sure who Toy Story 3 belonged to ... it was a bit of a mishmash.

Well put, lysander. I do like Toy Story 2 slightly better that #3. But I did like #3 and artistically speaking they are just about equal (IMHO). But I remember #2 as being a bit funnier and slightly lighter too which is why it has the edge for me.
But still I believe that TS3 was great and well done and Woody is like the glue that bond things together.

There is definitely no "a" in definite.

I'm not sure I quite buy that they're even artistically equal. The character development in #2 (and #1, for that matter) put it slightly above #3, IMHO.

I was thinking more of the technical aspects than character development. But I didn't make that clear so my bad.
As far as the character aspect goes, maybe the filmmakers wanted to concentrate more on the situation created by Andy's growing up and moving out. And how it accidentally and ultimately affects the toys destiny. Hence a lesser focus on the area of character development. Just a guess on my part.
Who knows, maybe a Pixar Person will log on and tell us.

I saw Toy Story about two weeks ago and loved it! Makes me feel like a child again.
Anyway, I went to see it with my two sisters, two friends and three kids. (we were so squeezed in our seats, each of my friends had to hold two of the kids in their laps.) But anyhow, I loved the beginning and I loved Woody's character *feels strange talking about good character in a toy*. And in the entire movie Buzz completely got on my nerves. Especially when
My favorite scene was when they all grabbed hands accepting their fate. The little kids behind me kept screaming "I want to go!". I kept telling my sister if that scene was in a movie with real people I'd be bawling my eyes out. I didn't love the ending, but it was a good enough. Such a cute movie!

Well, most people disagree with me.
But I thought I know that's terribly unrealistic but I just can't bear the thought that I know, I'm taking this film way too seriously, but those were my feelings as I watched it. I couldn't believe my eyes. I cried at the end, but not tears of joy.
At least

But I thought . In that sense, I think that should ease your mind on the situation. If they had made the ending be as you would have liked to have seen, there wouldn't really be any point to a thrid movie would there? It would be more fitting ending at 2 in your case.

Brilliant movie! Much better than Toy Story, not sure if it was better than Toy Story 2. It was certainly darker and more intense but still very funny in parts. I loved the creativity and detail of it all. A great homage to the prison genre too. I didn't cry towards the end but I was a bit teary-eyed. The ending was absolute perfection. That baby though, was creepy! 9/10 possibly higher.

Don't forget the Monkey.
My Dad's friend took his younger daughter to see the movie and she had nightmares from that Monkey.
