Am I the only one who thinks the latest episode proves just how much animation has improved over TLA? I'm not too fond of the 3D stuff though...

I missed the last episode. Most likely catch it when it comes up on facebook in a couple days.
I have been wondering about a few things that have happened in the series so far.
I hope I don't break any of the rules about spoilers, but I just have not figured out how to cover them yet. Guess I'm just not savvy enough, or just lazy right now.
Anyway. I sort of struck me no one ever thought of what Tarlokk, Amon, and the equalist street barker were doing is a kind of bending. Word Bending. The street barker was able to manipulate Korra into saying just what he wanted her to. " I bet you would like to knock me right off...." And she fell for it. Just as Tarlokk was able to set her up with the reporters so she eventually joined his taskforce.
Amon, whether he is truly scarred or not, has defenitly proven a capable propagandist.
Hope this is ok so far.
I will have to go back to see if I can practice spoiler covering. Just in case.

Reepi, I've watched the episodes with Ryadian and her brother, and one comment he frequently makes is how much better the animation is in Korra than in the original.

The 3D was a little hard for me to get used to in the original, but it seems to suit the atmosphere of this series, and the steampunk style of Republic City.

A comment I forget to mention earlier:

Spoiler
Lin resigned as police chief a couple episodes ago, so she could work without the restrictions of the law. I'm curious to see what will become of that, but for right now that plan played right into Tarlokk's hands, as he was able to manipulate the new chief quite easily into letting him have even more power - hence the police state he's beginning to form.

Interesting observations, Puddleglum. Hadn't thought of that. It could also be applied to the comments I put into my spoiler above.

(Spoilers are made by typing [*spoiler]top secret info here[/spoiler] - except without the * )

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

Now that I've seen "When Extremes Meet," I can read gazer's spoilers and respond.

Spoiler
I think that the person Avatar Aang and co. took down forty-some years back is actually Tarrlok (or an immediate relative). The flashback scene this episode featured a powerful blood bender holding back Sokka, Toph and Aang (where Katara was, I've no idea). It seemed to be a court scene, which makes me wonder what really is going on with Tarrlok. Also, both Tarrlok and the person in the flashback had a similar shocked-eyes reaction to something.

The Amon-is-Tarrlok theory seems to be losing ground since Tarrlok seemed to despise being compared to Amon, although his manipulation and making decisions that follow what Amon has said about benders make me wonder if he isn't in league with Amon in some way. They are at least philosophical equals, I think. I do like gazer's idea that Tarrlok will be the ultimate baddie for the series, but I think Tarrlok will be this season's baddie and will be mostly taken care of before it finishes, leaving Amon and co. for next season. Sort of like Zhao and Azula led to Ozai.

Also, who thinks that Tarrlok will lose his bending before it is all over?

I cannot wait for the next episode. Based on what we have seen in "WEM" and the title

Spoiler
"Out of the Past"
, I think we'll see
Spoiler
Korra get in touch with Aang's spirit and see the flashback in full (at least moreso than she has) and possibly begin to airbend.

Man, cliffhangers are a pain. I need to get my thoughts out about the latest episode while it's still fresh in my mind.

More later.

I'm not completely caught up, some I'm not sure what everyone has speculated on and all. I've got a few theories I want to throw out there on sundry topics.

Amon's Identity:

Spoiler
So far I've got two pet theories. Neither of them have much of anything to support them, but I'm assuming that they want Amon's identity to be shocking and surprising; if it's just a case of "Oh. It's that guy. The guy we've never met before." it wouldn't be as good a reveal. So in that case, I nominate Tenzin. Don't really have much of a reason for it other than if they wanted a "Oh my gosh! What?!" reaction, Tenzin would pretty much be the best choice right now. The whacky second theory I have is that Amon is either the cabbage guy or his kid/grandkid.

The Fate of the Aang Gang:

Spoiler
I'll be honest, I still think that fact that every single character, with the exception of Katara, from the original show is dead is exceptionally contrived. A:TLA established that people in this world live very long lives frequently. To me, this show is too well written, especially for a children's show, to settle for that level of plot contrivance. So I'm kind of wondering if Sokka, Toph, etc. didn't die natural deaths.

Shipping:

Spoiler
If Korra ends up with Mako, I may scream. So tired of every fictional girl in existence chasing after the brooding angsty mysterious boys.

About Booky's spoilers:

Fate of the originals:

Spoiler
Excellent points - it seems all too contrived. We've also speculated that their deaths might not be natural - or even that some of them might still be alive.

In a related vein, what about Katara's other kids, Bumi and Kya (mentioned in the Korra pilot episode)? We've no additional info on them, and perhaps one of them is tied to Amon or Tarrlok - or (as a friend speculated early on) might even be Amon.

Shipping:

Spoiler
Agreed! Perhaps the writers would let Asami and Mako really pair up, if we must have canon pairings. ;) Bolin's a nice guy, or maybe Korra will meet someone else later in the series. Or even end the series without her having to pair up with someone.

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

Ok. here's my try with spoiler covering.

Spoiler
Watching the last episode, and not being a watcher of the last series I wonder as well if Amon might be in some way related to Avatare Aang. His ability to resist Tarlokk's blood-bending, (though obviosly shken by it) hints at some possible relation.
I also wonder why imprison benders who have been stripped of their bending? Is there a possibility they might recover, or were they held for leverage? Also. why did Amon want Tarlokk?

As for the relationship issue
Spoiler
I think everyone saw the Korra-Mako romance a mile off. And yes, it is a bit too predictable.

Now I must go grumble. The season finale will be while I am out at Scout-Camp X(

Okay, first I want to give my reaction to the latest episode, and then I want to comment on some of the speculation.

Lots of thoughts now that I've seen "Out of the Past":

Spoiler
I'm kind of glad that the Tarrlok is Amon theory is out. It was a fun theory, but it would have removed all the lovely tension they have added.

I think Amon will use Tarrlok as some sort of example or bargaining chip.

There will have to be more spirit world stuff. Amon has to have spoken to the spirits to have gained the knowledge of energy bending, so perhaps Korra will go there and explore. Maybe we'll see Koh again? Or Yue and Twi (or was it La)?

Speaking of Koh, it's possible that was how Amon lost his face (as Dr.ElwinRansom has suggested elsewhere).

Also, here is how I imagine the face off shown in the trailer for the finale: Amon will try to remove Korra's bending, but her will is going to be unbendable, and Amon will feel the backlash of that, possibly losing his own energybending ability. Alternatively, Korra could lose her bending (o_O) and then spend season two getting it back.

Zuko most likely will be the character Dante Basco plays in "Skeletons in the Closet," which is a great name for an episode with lots of old secrets like what happened to Ursa, Zuko's mother.

Also, I thought the line about Sokka's boomerang was slightly forced, but still in character. The most difficult thing to get used to in those sequences was the older voice actors. ;))

From episode 10...

Spoiler
Well, apparently Dante Basco is not playing Zuko, but a young character called General Iroh, which I can only guess is Zuko's son. Hearing the voice at the end of the episode was a pretty great moment.

A few more thoughts after watching "Turning the Tides":

Spoiler
1) Lin has finally proven to be at least as amazing a fighter as her mother. She's probably done this already, but my reaction to her sacrifice in this episode is that she' now at least equal to Toph.
2) General Iroh (who it's been confirmed is Zuko's grandson) is going to come in and blast apart the Equalists. :D
3) Two best one-liners from this episode: Meelo - "Not NOW, Baby!" and Jinora - "Stay away from my dad's ex-girlfriend."
4) Naga's complete slam of Lieutenant was so awesome, I had to rewind and watch it again.
5) The most interesting Amon theory I have heard yet is that he is actually Bumi, Aang and Katara's non-bender son. I'm starting to like this theory, but I don't know how much weight it holds. I just don't trust Amon's statements about his history.

Wild theory on Amon

Spoiler
I was kind of struck by two facts:
1) How did Amon know that Korra was in a metal box before even going down the stairs? Unless he had knowledge of the hidout in advance.
2) Why did we not see Tarlokk's whiny assistant affected when he bloodbent everyone else in the council chambers? Is it possible he is connected to the equalists?
Doubt he could be Amon. He is far too slender. But then Amon does wear armore.

I was sure this was it. I was actually surprised that it wasn't. Now I'm extra anxious to find out the answer to this...

After watching the season finale I have an observation.
While I am still not thrilled with the "spiritual" aspect of the series pointing to reencarnation,

Spoiler
I do find it good that Korra recieves her "revelations" when she is forced to be truly alone, and has, or beleives she has, no one to turn to. How often does God allow us to get down to show us how much we need Him, instead of relying on ourselves?
