Must say that I was never a fan of the original series. I guess it was the spiritual aspect of it. I did not notice that in the episode I saw this morning, which I assume was the first.
We probably won't see much spirituality until at least halfway through, because that's something Korra needs to work on. But I'm betting it'll still be a big part of it. Hope that doesn't bother you.
My sister, who's sixteen, never really liked the first series, but she walked in on my other sister and I when we were watching A Leaf In the Wind, and she said it looked interesting.
I'm really, really hoping it goes on Hulu or Nick puts them up or something.
Same here. I asked my Aunt to record them for me, since she has cable (or dish, or whatever), so I'll still have them, but I'd still like to be able to watch them online. Especially since that way she can put them all on one or two discs instead of having to get it to me each week. Anyway, I'm super excited for the next episode this Saturday! Apparently the name of the episode is "The Revelation," but that's all I know about it.

Next week's episode, according to the teaser at the end of "A Leaf in the Wind" -
Random: The expression "A Leaf in the Wind" made me think of Wash's words in the movie Serenity.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
1. How excited are you for the show to start?: Very!
2. Are you disappointed that it's set so far in the future?: In one way yes, because that means so many beloved characters won't be there. But I also like the fact that it's a new avatar, new characters, and a new villain.
3. What do you think of the characters and plot based upon the information that's been released so far?: I like Mako, even if he does act a little grumpy in the second episode. I like Korra a LOT better then Aang. And I really like Tenzin and his family. Bolin is funny, but he's not my favorite character. I haven't seen much of him, so I may change my mind in later episodes.
I think it's interesting how in the first series the main characters were the revolutionaries. In the second series they're having people rebelling against them.

3. What do you think of the characters and plot based upon the information that's been released so far?
1. Oh so very, very excited.
2. NO. That was one of the smartest moves Mike and Bryan could have made, because not only does it free up the old voice actors to persue other acting paths, but it allows for a much bigger story, one relatively unconfined to the war that occurred 70 years earlier.
3. I LOVE Korra, and love how M&B have chosen a strong female lead for this new show. Granted, she's a bit rough around the edges, but that what makes her really appealing as a character. Bolin and Mako are also awesome, though I need to see more of them before I make any final judgements. Tenzin and his family are made of win (especially Jinora), but by FAR the character I'm most excited about is Amon. I have not seen such an excellently chilling villain since Slade from Teen Titans. I can't WAIT to see what kind of stunts he and the anti-benders are going to pull!
I saw the first episode on Saturday, 14th, and the second on Sunday, 15th.
It's a very good start so far. Like I've read above, it's different- yet the same. I'm gonna miss Aang, but I assume we'll see him in the spirit world? Please, oh please I hope we do. (If you know anything please don't tell me).
Next week's episode, according to the teaser at the end of "A Leaf in the Wind" -
SpoilerKorra has another encounter with the anti-benders, and the revelation appears to be something "impossible" (Korra's words), and Tenzin says "No bender is safe."
Are you sure about that? From what I saw of the teaser, I thought they were just revealing what happens later in the series. I don't think they ever said that this is what's coming in the next episode.

I completely agree. I thought it was a very smart move. It also tells me that Mike and Bryan didn't think, "Hey! These characters made us money! Let's see how many sequels we can squeeze out of these characters before the public gets sick of them!" (Hollywood's very good at doing that). This move shows to me that the creators care about the story, not the money. Very impressive, imho.

First can I say that it is wonderful to be back here. I missed you guys!
1. How excited are you for the show to start?
Super excited like I don't know if I was able to contain my excitement. I was jumping all over the room when it came on TV.
2. Are you disappointed that it's set so far in the future?
At first I was a little unsure about the future and knowing how much they advanced technologically, but as of right now it seems to work okay. I still miss the old show though in that it had more traditional looking stuff.
3. What do you think of the characters and plot based upon the information that's been released so far?
I think that the characters are pretty good so far and I see a lot of potential for Korra to grow as a person/Avatar. As there have only been three episodes I'm a little bit unsure how Mako and Bolin will end up.
Questions aside I am so crazy pumped for this Saturday. I want to see what happens so badly like no joke!
I enjoyed this latest episode as well. Random observations:
I liked the variation on the usual "previously on..." segment
A few fun quotes:
"The morning is evil."
"Pabu is a friend, not a snack." (I was immediately reminded of the similar line from Finding Nemo.)
"I want...to...be...on...your back." (from a character getting bounced up and down as Naga runs).
More seriously, we expected the chi-blockers to show up, and I was a little surprised Korra didn't know about them, as benders are particularly vulnerable to the technique.
Anon's bending removal ability was a bit more unexpected, as in the past only the Avatar has been able to do it. (Perhaps it's done via other means). If his claim to the spirit world granting him this power is valid, that probably will prompt Korra to investigate that side of her role.
Challenging him to a duel (next week's episode) seems pretty impulsive - right in line with Korra's character but it seems rather reckless anyway.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
I must admit to being a bit apprehensive about the spiritual aspect of the series. I saw a little of the oroginal, and was not thrilled with how it hinted at reincarnation.
But I guess with a new series I'm willling to wait, and see.
With this villian that they are showing, well, I might be a bit early, but I think there's more than meets the eye with this one.
Ok. I need someone to please give me a refresher on covering spoilers as my addled mind has already forgotten
Puddleglum, it's Spoiler and /Spoiler in [ ].
I saw a little of the oroginal, and was not thrilled with how it hinted at reincarnation.
"hinted"? It is stated throughout the whole series numerous times and Aang often gets help from his past lives
I saw a little of the oroginal, and was not thrilled with how it hinted at reincarnation.
I know what you mean, but even though I don't like the idea of reincarnation, I thought it was very well done. I just like to think of each Avatar as a separate person who has been chosen by the spirit of the earth to be the Avatar. Then it doesn't hurt my head as much.
I've now seen the third episode, and I want to know what people think.

I agree that the original ATLA was steeped in Eastern mysticism. I was able to swallow this, at least in small doses, for several reasons:
- when it was done well
- it was natural given the show's Chinese-type setting
- those early conversations between Aang and Avatar Roku served as a plot device to bring the characters and audience up to speed with the background mythology of the show's world
Given that Korra's only set to run 26 episodes, there's less time for that sort of conversation, and to some extent the writers seem to assume some audience familiarity with the background. This could all be wrong, of course, should Korra suddenly decide to explore the spirit world and any connections to Anon's
I did think that a few original episodes ("The Swamp" and "The Guru" come to mind) went overboard with the mysticism. (It may have been necessary in that latter episode to explain Aang's trouble with the Avatar State, but I still thought it was too much).
Speaking of the Avatar State,
Re: your spoilers, Fire Fairy:
Still, Ozai was quite creepy on some occasions, like when he decided to burn the Earth Nation to the ground or in the ways he dealt with his family.
It was Ryadian who pointed out to me that Anon
Korra's urban setting seems darker and 'grittier' than the generally-rural setting of the original series (even including most of their time in Ba Sing Se). In fact,
The highlight, for me, of today's 4th episode
Casting note for this episode: The voice of new character Hiroshi Sato may sound familiar: it's Daniel Dae Kim, who played Jin in LOST and Chin Ho in the new Hawaii Five-O.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
For those who've seen episode four...
As for what I think of episode four...
Okay, I better shut up now. (I'm such a nerd. )

Not really spoilerish, but I wanted to address a couple of things about technology as previously discussed.
While I'm still a bit sad that almost all the original gang is gone, I'm really enjoying the new setting and characters. The timing is such that there're still connections with the original series but not so close that you're tripping over old characters everytime you turn around.
Welcome back, Mnkylvr17! Glad you're enjoying the series so far. Do you have any more thoughts on Mako and Bolin after a fourth episode?
Fire Fairy,
I enjoyed episode 4. Hiroshi Sato made me laugh, especially with his typical rags-to-riches story. And the was great. I'm guessing we'll be hearing about that incident again. Also, I'm wondering if Korra kept the car---I could think of all sorts of situations it'd be useful in. And about
A couple of other thoughts/questions/theories about things.
I've really been enjoying the character depth and growth we've been getting, but I really hope we get some more on Pema, Lin, Bolin, and even Jinora soon. Also,
Em, sorry, this is a bit of a long and disorganized post!
