Here's another one of those humorous motivational posters:

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

Anyone know how to operate these things :-

That'd be nice to see, Puddleglum! Perhaps you could upload that picture to a site like Photobucket or Imageshack, and then link it here using the IMG tags...

The "network formerly known as the Sci-Fi Channel" ;)) has been broadcasting Enterprise episodes of late. Today I watched 2 of them:

"Regeneration" - I thought this was one of the better ones in the series. With a little retcon it ties together the Borg presence in First Contact with their eventual arrival in TNG (Voyager established their home realm was tens of thousands of light-years away in the Delta Quadrant, but when first encountered in TNG they're only 7000 ly away. This episode explains this inconsistency in allowing Borg survivors from Cochrane's day to get a message off home, and ends with a remark to the effect that "we've only delayed the battle until the 24th century."

"The Expanse" - as I recall this one begins the Xindi and Temporal Cold War story arcs. The teaser opens with a bang, as an alien probe cuts a swath from Florida to Venezuela. It turns out it's just a test; a later probe of the same type will be deployed to destroy earth. (This seems to be a tactical error, to me: if you intend to destroy an enemy who doesn't even know you exist, don't tip your hand by running a 'test' on their home planet. That's sure to get their attention. But I suppose a test on some uninhabited planet somewhere won't have the drama of attacking earth).

I didn't watch a whole lot of Enterprise when it was on, and only caught a few episodes in syndication but I thought the series finale was...absolutely, positively, rockingly awesome. ;)) By utilizing the old Mirror Universe concept (where the Federation never came into existence but rather a militaristic "Terran Empire" was formed), as well as a major link to the old TOS episode The Tholian Web, this episode was crazy good from start to finish and made me think that if the producers of Enterprise has included more of this kind of thing the show may still be going strong today. Alas, too little, too late.

Here's the "alternate" intro for the Terran Empire in place of the normal Federation one that they aired just for this episode.

I loved the old Constitution Class ships of the TOS getting new life on shows like this, and the Defiant looks great! :)

That was an excellent alternate introduction, and Enterprise had some very good Mirror Universe episodes (as did DS9, which had about 6 episodes which explored the changes in the Mirror Universe following the changes in it thanks to Kirk's appeal to Spock in the original episode).

BBC America is running TNG episodes, and tonight's is the excellent 5th-season offering called "The First Duty." It features Robert Duncan MacNeill (who later went on to play Tom Paris in Voyager) as a Starfleet Academy squadron leader involved in a cover-up (along with Cadet Wesley Crusher). One of the other squadron members, Ensign Sito Jaxa (played by Shannon Fill) appeared again in the 7th-season episode "Lower Decks."

A highlight of this episode for me is Picard's comment to Wesley about Starfleet's duty to the truth. In a post-modern world, or setting, where 'truth is relative,' it was refreshing to see this empassioned plea for truth and integrity.

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

Did someone mention me?

Ok, I'd stayed out of here for this long, only because I haven't caught up on all the films yet. (and thusly, was scared to show my face :p )

However, I just HAD to respond to this latest post...

Translation? I love, love, LOVE that episode! Sadly... although we have cable, we don't get that channel. :((

Enjoy it, gazer! :)

Yeah, I liked that talk (and comment) too.

..............
Hmm, now how to go on?
I could either dig up my old posts from the old thread, and take highlights from them. Or, I could write up a new one. I think I'll just look up how many of the films I've seen by now, and then come back in here later. Sound fair?

Oh PA, you haven't seen all the movies yet?? It's been over two years (if I recall) since the last Star Trek SF! Just take a nice, rainy Sunday afternoon and watch one or two. And remember, even numbered Treks are the best! ;))

I haven't seen all of the movies either. I've seen only three. The new one. And the one about Spock and the one about whales. (I forget the titles, lol)

My dad and I have been watching TOS these last few nights. It's a lot of fun. I had previously watched a few of them, but never in order or anything. One thing that I've noticed that's a bit weird is just how xenophobic so many of the Starfleet members are toward Spock. Even the main characters seem to be unable to pass up a chance to get digs in about his emotional status. I get McCoy doing it; it's part of their banter and Spock gives it right back, but the others doing it is a bit irritating. Oh, and the Uhura/Spock pairing no longer seems weird to me. I think it's pretty obvious she was interested in him in TOS. All the flirting and stuff. And poor Janice Rand. The woman is creeper bait. Every time someone starts acting strange or a weirdo comes on the ship, they zero in on her and start stalking her. ;))

SL, I agree the Mirror Verse episodes of Enterprise were pretty fantastic, but they aren't actually the final episodes. The series finale was the horrible, awful, no good, very bad "These Are the Voyages", which is quite possibly the single worst series finale to ever disgrace television screens around the world. You know an episode is bad when even the actors hate it. ;))

Season 3, with the Xindi storyline, was pretty good, but season 4 was when Enterprise finally came into its own. If they had had the people responsible for that season on board from the beginning, it would have been a fantastic show.

Got to agree with you there, Bookwyrm, about season 4 being when Enterprise really came alive. I also agree about that finale. The big reveal at the end, which was probably supposed to be some exciting revelation, was just about as disappointing to me as the horrible series ending of Quantum Leap.

*still hasn't seen any Enterprise* I was flipping through the channels last week trying to find something for my sick little sister to watch and saw about 5 seconds of what looked like a Romulan before SyFy went to a commercial break. The conversation went something like this: "We could watch Enterprise!" "I don't like Star Trek." "How could you not like Star Trek?" "I just don't." "Fine. You're sick; I'll humour you."

Oh, and the Uhura/Spock pairing no longer seems weird to me. I think it's pretty obvious she was interested in him in TOS. All the flirting and stuff.

Hmm......I guess I need to watch TOS again. I'm really not remembering anything resembling flirting between them. But it has been probably at least three years since I saw any of the episodes.

Oh! I saw that episode recentlyish, but not on BBC America....must have been SyFy. Anyway, I whole-heartedly agree; it's a great episode. I'm not a big fan of Wesley, but I really liked him in this one.

If we are naming our favorit episodes i must admit to the TNG favorit being when Q re-creats sherwood with crew as Robin, and the merry men.
Data wealding a turkey leg, as Friar Tuck almost had me rolling =))

That is, if Marsh-Wiggles did such things :-$

Well, not flirting on Spock's part ;)), but Uhura definitely seemed interested in a few of the episodes we've watched so far.

You're right; SyFy has been running a lot of TNG episodes lately, along with repeated showings of the earlier movies - but I've passed up several opportunities to watch The Final Frontier (Star Trek V). I think I've only seen that one in its entirety once.

The other night Generations aired on SyFy opposite James Cameron's Titanic on some other network, and so viewers had a choice of which ship's destruction to watch. ;))

Generations has some nice shots - the stellar cartography room was especially good on the big screen. A nitpick is that the bad guy collapses stars to alter the path of the Nexus ribbon because the star's gravity changes. But a shrunken star would have the same gravity since it has the same mass. [/wise guy ;)] Still an enjoyable movie though.

I have to agree that V was pretty terrible. My sister Kathy (a genuine Trekkie from her teens) always referred to the movie as "The Laughing Vulcan". I've read that Shatner was hamstrung in trying to make the film more...competent? I guess that's the word I'm looking for...I'm not sure of the truth of that, but it's definitely my least favorite. A lot of folks look at TMP as the worst of the lot, but I always direct them to The Final Frontier, a ST film that almost demands MST3K treatment. ;))
