For never was there a tale of more woe,
then that of Juliet and her Romeo

Shakspeare's Romeo and Juliet is probably the world's most famous tragedy. And one of the only tragidies I like :).
So here it is, a whole Special Feature where you can disscus what you like (or don't like) about it. Here are some questions to start the disscusion:
1. Which Romeo and Juliet movie did you like best?
2. Who do you think is the best actor who played Romeo?
3. Who do you think is the best actress who plays Juliet?
4. Did you ever see a theatrical play of Romeo and Juliet?
5. Did you ever participate in a play of Romeo and Juliet? If yes, then who did you play?

I can't answer any of those questions b/c I've never seen a movie or been to/seen a play. I do like the actualy play though, for the most part. I like the character of Juliet, the only thing I don't like is that they kill themselves over each other. I find that kind of lame, sorry :p .

I've always loved the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet--it always really stood out to me among Shakespeare's tragedies.
My favorite Romeo and Juliet movie is the one directed by Franco Zeffereli that came out in 1968 with actors Olivia Hussey and
I saw the French Musical of Romeo and Juliet that came out in 2003, and also a rendition of that musical in my native language. I didn't like it as much as the original play, but it was ok.
And, no, I never participated in a Romeo and Juliet play. I would have liked to, though.

Glenstorm the Great: Well, I guess it was sort of lame that they killed themselves over each other, if you look at it like that. The way I saw it, they had both grown up in a world of hate and lust, with their families both hating each other, and the only taste they had of real, unselfish, true love was when they found each other, and when it was taken from them, they lost all hope for life. The point of the story was that their parents didn't have or give them the love they needed to survive. Life without love (I mean real, true love, between friends, brothers, sisters, to God, etc. not only romance) isn't life at all...and I think that's the point Shakespeare was trying to bring out.

I wasn't going to be going online till October but when my sister said she made a special feature to Romeo and Juliet I decided to bend my rules a bit and write some of my thoughts about it. (ok this is a bad excuse, but hey it's an excuse none the less :p )
So where shall I begin? I could go on and on but will try to keep my post short. I am a great lover of tragedies and love to read them (De_De can never understand me about this) and Romeo and Juliet is by far my most favorite.

1. Which Romeo and Juliet movie do you like best? Well I only saw parts of the Zeffereli one but I loved the parts that I saw. We're going to watch the movie in full soon
2. Who do you think is the best actor who played Romeo-I loved the way the Romeo played in the Zeffereli Romeo and Juliet Movie, I wish I knew his name. I also love Damien Sargue who played in a French musical of Romeo and Juliet and Andrey Alexandrinin who played in the Russian version of the same musical.
3. Who do you think is the best actress who plays Juliet? I'm tying with Cecilia Cara and Olivia Hussey, they are both so different in looks but both made such great Juliets
4. Did you ever see a theatrical play of Romeo and Juliet? Yes I saw the Russian version of the French Musical of Romeo and Juliet live and I saw the original French version on video, I also say the Austrian version of the play on video and parts of the Mexican and Hungarian one. I really like that musical (as one can see by my signature :D )
5. Did you ever participate in a play of Romeo and Juliet? If yes, then who did you play? In my dreams...many times, in reality not yet...but I hope to someday, I'd love to play Juliet (why is that so not supprising :p ?) or Lady Capulet

Quite a few people I know like Romeo and Juliet so much because they think it such a great and sad love story. In reality the point of Romeo and Juliet is not the love story at all. When I read the play what I thought the moral was, was that hate kills love. The hate that the parents had for each other ultimatly killed their children. Romeo and Juliet where in love sure but we don't know how long that love would have lasted. Juliet was only 14 and Romeo was 16 (I think, or somewhere around that age). They where only children and most likely would have tired of each other after time. But the deaths of Romeo and Juliet did help unite the two feuding families, so though sad and tragic it was excatly what was need to wake the families up and see what their hate was doing.
The person who I felt sorry for the most was Paris, the poor fellow got caught up in all the mess quite by accident and ended up losing his own life. And I also felt terribly sorry for the Prince (or whatever he was called) who had to put up with the Montegues and the Capulettes, thankfully in the end it was all sorted out. That is one thing I so loved about Romeo and Juliet tragedy, though it ends tragic in that Romeo and Juliet died (and a bunch of other people as well) the end comes out with hope as the two families unite
Ok I'll stop here as my post is already way to long, sorry everyone, I just love this story so much I tend to go on and on when I start talking about it

always be humble and kind

I don't know a lot about Romeo and Juliet, but I'm currently playing one of the love themes called, "A Time For Us" on the piano. My question is, What movie/play is that from? For example, is it from the movie from the 60's, or from the one with Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes? Thanks! :)

Narnian_Archer: well that's a good point. But still, I would never kill myself, even if I lost all hope of love like that.

Wow glad you can play that. "A Time for Us" is from the movie from the 60's. Here is a better explanation from Wikipedia

"Love Theme from Romeo and Juliet", also known as "A Time for Us", is an instrumental arranged by Henry Mancini. It was a number-one pop hit in the United States during the year 1969. It topped the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart on June 28, 1969, and remained there for two weeks.[1]

The melody is the theme from the movie Romeo and Juliet, which starred Leonard Whiting and Olivia Hussey. Rearranged by Mancini, the song started competing with rock and roll songs from The Beatles and the Rolling Stones on an Orlando, Florida radio station and spread from there. It faced stiff opposition from some radio states for being too soft. Those stations had to change their mind when the song become number one.

I read the play and saw the '60s movie in English class.

1. Which Romeo and Juliet movie did you like best? Well I've only seen one version, but I heard the Leonardo DiCaprio one isn't that good.
2. Who do you think is the best actor who played Romeo? Leonard Whiting (He's so goodlooking as a kid. All my friends were calling dibs on certain characters. I got Benvolio :)
3. Who do you think is the best actress who plays Juliet? Olivia Hussey
4. Did you ever see a theatrical play of Romeo and Juliet? Nope
5. Did you ever participate in a play of Romeo and Juliet? If yes, then who did you play? I would love to. I would want to play either Juliet or the Nurse, but eventhough I'm a girl, if I could I'd rather play Mercutio. I love all his dirty jokes. :p

Team Edward and Team Jacob are overrated. I'm Team Avatar!

I never read the play either, the language is too hard for me. I only watched a theatrical musical. :)
