Patricia McKillip is a renowned author of fantasy and science fiction books. In 1973, she published her first book, The House on Parchment Street, a children's ghost story. Ever since then, she's published a number of novels, including Fool's Run, Winter Rose, Solstice Wood, Alphabet of Thorn, The Bell of Sealey Head, and In the Forests of Serre. Her most famous books, though, comprise a series, The Riddle-Master of Hed.

To start off discussion, here are a few questions for you all to consider answering:

•How were you introduced to McKillip?
•What was the first book you read by her?
•How many of her books have you read?
    •Which is your favourite book?[/list36zru0qo]
N.B. Please remember to put all major plot points and spoilers in spoiler boxes! :)
Also, if you have a suggestion for a Special Feature, please pm one of our friendly Spare Oom moderators---they'd love to hear from you! :)

Some days you battle yourself and other monsters. Some days you just make soup.

Oh dear, this SF is going to make me want to read some McKillip. ;))

I was first introduced to McKillip through all the little fanatics in the Books thread. I read lots of praise for The Bell at Sealey Head, so I checked it out and I really enjoyed it. After that I read The Riddlemaster of Hed which I didn't enjoy as much, I think because of its 'high fantasy' qualities. Then I read Alphabet of Thorn which was my favorite yet. I thought Sealey Head was well imagined, but after reading Alphabet, I saw just how good McKillip is at creating worlds and characters.
