As a HUGE Owl City fan as well as Narnia fan, I was very excited to see a group of Hoot Owls on NW. I think it would be very cool to have discussions about all things related to Owl City (this does include Adam's side projects such as Sky Sailing, Swimming with Dolphins, etc. and other music projects by the Owl City Live band, such as Sparks by Breanne Duren).
You can discuss what you liked or disliked about albums, talk about an Owl City concert you've gone to, or just freak out about how much you love Owl City! :D
Let the hooting begin!

Aah, I LOVE Owl City (can you tell by my icon and signature? ;) ). I'm so glad this SF opened up now because I've been having a huge OC obsession lately. I saw them (technically, with the touring band, it's plural) earlier this month and once before in the summer. Both shows were fantastic and contrary to some expectations (because his music is so electronic), Adam doesn't sound bad at all live. I enjoyed the show this month more than the last one, though, because I got to meet Adam and be right up front for the show. It was definitely one of the best days ever. :D
I love all of his Owl City albums, my favorite probably being Maybe I'm Dreaming. It's so poetic and flowing and unique. "Early Birdie", "I'll Meet You There", "Dear Vienna", and "West Coast Friendship" come from that album and are some of my absolute favorite OC songs. I think some of his newer stuff, mostly on All Things Bright and Beautiful, isn't as unique as the older. I still love it (a lot), but I think it's a bit more mainstream-sounding. Take "Deer in the Headlights" for example. To me, that sounds a lot more like "normal" music than, say, "Swimming in Miami" or anything else from the older albums.
I was kind of surprised to see people saying that ATBAB was "more of the same" from Ocean Eyes. I don't think so at all. The songs in ATBAB seem much more structured and a little less electronic to me. Ocean Eyes resembles the older albums in its free form (I just noticed a little while ago that "Vanilla Twilight" doesn't have a chorus really, it's just a long, flowing poem). The vocals in ATBAB are a little different too, with the less soothing "Wake me if you're out there" and "Oh comet come down" shouts in "Angels" and "Kamikaze". I personally love how those sound; but I've heard otherwise. What are your opinions on the "rougher" vocals?
Oh, one more thing. Does anyone else love "All About Us" by He is We featuring Owl City? I absolutely adore that song.
If I were to answer all of the topic ideas in the first post I'd be here all day. I'm just really into his stuff right now. I'll be back later. ;)

I actually saw your graphics on another topic and that inspired me to start this forum, LucyP0104. I saw them live this summer too at the Mann! And then I saw them last Sunday at the Starland Ballroom. I think his vocals are as good live as the sound on the tracks, but when it's recorded it does not sound as good as I remember. :- I agree, ATBAB did sound more main stream than usual, but beautiful nonetheless. My favorite songs are Hot Air Balloon (that's my #1 favorite; the rest are in no particular order), Hello Seattle, Cave In, Meteor Shower, Sunburn, Super Honeymoon, Deer in the Headlights, and Galaxies. I think he is trying new things, such as the rap in Alligator Sky and the almost yelling in Angels and Kamikaze. I will always love him no matter what Adam does though. I really admire his strong and obvious faith through the fame. It has encouraged me and challenged me in so many ways.
Oh my goodness I want to dance to All About Us at my wedding one day! I love that song. It's adorable! The music video makes me want to cry. It's so cute.

I was at the Mann as well! That was such a good show. :)
The songs I listed in my last post were my favorites from Maybe I'm Dreaming. I don't think I'm able to choose my one favorite song of all of the albums, though I agree that Hot Air Balloon is pretty good. I was so excited when he played it live this month (at the Crocodile Rock). I wasn't expecting to hear it. To list my favorites, though, I'd have to go with (in no particular order) Galaxies, I'll Meet You There, The Real World, To the Sky, Dear Vienna, Umbrella Beach, The Yacht Club, Plant Life, West Coast Friendship, Vanilla Twilight, If My Heart Was a House, Early Birdie, Lonely Lullaby and Alligator Sky (without the rap is better in my opinion, but I like the rap version as well). That's a lot of favorites.
On another note, I like some of his side projects as well. I don't own the entire Sky Sailing album because honestly I think a lot of those songs sound the same, but I have Brielle, Captains of the Sky, Explorers, and Sailboats, and I love them. I've been listening to a lot of Port Blue on Grooveshark lately, but haven't gotten around to purchasing any of the songs yet. I do really enjoy the dreamy, soothing music, though, so they'll probably find their way onto my iPod soon enough. ;)
I downloaded Sparks by Breanne Duren when it was free on Noisetrade last month, and I really like it. At first I wasn't sure that I would, because I didn't particularly love her voice, but I was impressed. I love how catchy her songs are, and Daydreams and Catapult are my favorites.

I really admire his strong and obvious faith through the fame. It has encouraged me and challenged me in so many ways.

Same here. It's so inspiring that he confesses his faith openly and honestly all the time.

I think the funniest part of the concert at the Mann was when those guys ran on the stage and as they were being dragged away by security, Adam waved goodbye. :-h I was kind of weirded out by the rap because it seemed so uncharacteristic of him, but now I really like it. And same here, at first I did not like Breanne's voice but it's kind of grown on me. I got her EP free too! Catapult is my favorite as well. I'm jealous that you heard him sing Hot Air Balloon! I always hope he will sing it at concerts.
you can tell that he has a very strong faith and worships during his concerts, especially during Meteor Shower and Galaxies. You know the song Lonely Lullaby? He sang it at the Starland Ballroom and I'm 99% sure he was crying at the end. He didn't finish the last part when he sings "I'll never forget you", etc. and was wiping his eyes.

My sister loves Owl City (and for the record, she was a fan before Fireflies) but one of my best friends hated Owl City so I decided I did too, but then I actually listened to it and decided I really liked it. Now I LOVE it! :) I converted. I am glad we were able to encourage you to become an Owl City fan!

Oh my goodness, yes! That was hilarious. ;))

That's so sad. I feel like the song would lose some of its emotion being played every night for months, but I guess not. I saw a video on YouTube where he was playing Lonely Lullaby and crying, but I'm not sure which venue it was. :(

Hey Guys! I am a recent Owl City fan thanks to all of you guys in this forum. ;) ...So how did you all become fans?

Welcome! I'm glad we could help introduce you to his music. :) I've only been a fan since April, when Galaxies came out. I liked Fireflies before, but that was the only song I had. I happened to be in the iTunes store and saw that there was a new single, Galaxies, so I checked it out. I absolutely fell in love with the sample, but waited a few days to buy it so it grew on me even more. Then I bought Ocean Eyes and eventually everything else. The rest is history. ;)
On another note, I've been listening to two particular Port Blue songs a lot lately- Seagulls and Setting Sail. They are just so beautiful. Seagulls sounds a lot like Vanilla Twilight, and I love it. They did Setting Sail live at both concerts, so it brings back a flood of memories that add to what is already a lovely song. Anyone else familiar with these?

I can't believe I haven't visited this thread sooner! ;)) My memory was jogged when I started listening to OC, so I decided to head over here. ;)

I pretty much love every song he's ever made, but the ones that mean the most to me are Vanilla Twilight, Hot Air Balloon, Angels, and Lonely Lullaby. His music is so imaginative, and perfect for dreamers and hopeless romantics... *ahem* like me. ;)) This is further proved by the fact that I actually use Lonely Lullaby as inspiration for my NaNo novel. :p (That song is amazingly sad.)

Now that we're going into the Christmas season again, I've been listening to Peppermint Winter. I really like it. Speaking of Christmas music, has anyone heard the collaboration that Adam did with tobyMac? :)

In answer to your question, LucyP, I absolutely love the All About Us song by He is We. I love how mature his vocals sound. He's really branching out in a lot of his newer projects.

I might surprise people by saying this, but I like ATBaB slightly better than Ocean Eyes. Don't get me wrong, I love them both, but ATBaB has a slightly deeper feel. I actually love his rougher lyrics on Angels and Kamikaze, and I love to shout along with them. ;))

I was first introduced to OC's music by my brother's friend who stayed with us for a while. He downloaded Fireflies when it first came out. I remember thinking the song was kind of strange, and yet extremely catchy. (Although I am sad to admit that I didn't know who OC was before I heard Fireflies. ) As time went on, I started to gradually get into the song even more. Then my other friend started getting into him, and the rest is history. After In Christ Alone came out on his blog, I fell in love with that song and decided to buy Ocean Eyes. I've pretty much been a fan ever since. ;))

I've never seen Owl City in concert, but I really, really hope I can someday. *crosses fingers*

Oh, and I love Port Blue and Sky Sailing (particularly the song Brielle). Port Blue is wonderful noveling music and I love how he's able to piece together instrumental songs as well as write amazing lyrics, and still put equal emotion into both. He's really, really talented. :)

Okay, I think I'll stop rambling now. ;)) *ducks out of the thread before she can say anything else*

I love Owl City. The only album I have is Ocean Eyes, though I also have "The Technicolor Phase," and "To the Sky." I've listened to a bunch of his other songs on youtube, though. My favorites would be:
Cave In
Hello Seattle
On the Wing
Meteor Shower
Dental Care
Tidal Wave
The Saltwater Room
Vanilla Twilight
If My Heart was a House
To the Sky
Galaxies
Alligator Sky
Plant Life
Angels
Fireflies
Peppermint Winter
Deer in the Headlights
The Yacht Club
Dreams Don't Turn to Dust
Butterfly Wings
In Christ Alone (has anyone else heard that? I think it's amazing)
So that's quite a lot of favorites, but I like all the rest too. I remember that the first one I heard was Fireflies.

Ooh . . :D I love Owl City, and Adam Young - I think he's an amazing genius, and his music is pretty much amazing.
I love his new Album, and his last one, and what I've heard of his other(s). I love how he does a little bit of screamo (especially in Kamikaze) - I ADORE that.
And has anyone read Hercules Goes Bananas? Cause - it's AMAZING.

I was listening to ATBAB the other day and I realized I like it more than Ocean Eyes too. I didn't really notice the deeper feel, but like the style of ATBAB more. At least for now. My preferences drift around.

In Christ Alone (has anyone else heard that? I think it's amazing)

YES! I think it's my favorite version of the song. :) He also did "How Deep the Father's Love for Us", which I like as well. It's on YouTube.

And has anyone read Hercules Goes Bananas? Cause - it's AMAZING.

Agreed. It's crazy and funny yet very beautiful at the same time. I really love his whole blog in general. He has such a lovely writing style and it always inspires me. I look forward to the posts every Monday. It seems like lately, though, with the exception of the post about coming back from touring, the posts have been kind of tiny. I guess he's just tired from the tour.
I've heard "The First Noel" with tobyMac on YouTube and as an iTunes sample, and I think it's alright. I would probably like it better if I bought it and listened to it a little more, which just might happen since we're approaching Christmastime.
Has anyone else heard the song "Youtopia" that Adam was featured in? I don't listen to this style of music, but the music video came out the other day and brought the song to my attention. I really, really like it; it's been stuck in my head a lot lately. ;)

I definitely think ATBAB was his best - his voice and music has matured a lot with it, and it has more depth. :) Not that I don't love Ocean Eyes. *is reminded to listen to ATBAB* :D

I'm so glad I have found more Owl City fans on Narniaweb! My 2 obsessions come together-Narnia and Owl City.
I love In Christ Alone. If I listen to it when I'm really into worship, it moves me to tears. I wrote the words on a paper and decorated it and put it in the front of my binder. It's a good reminder to focus on Jesus throughout the whole day.
I really like The First Noel, even though I don't like tobyMac very much. I like the sound, especially the beginning. It's so intense!
I love the Hercules Goes Bananas blog. It's probably one of my favorites. Even though he was recovering from surgery, he still cries out to God and shows how much he truly loves Him. I would not have such a strong spiritual walk without the Owl City blogs encouraging me. Another of my favorites is The Good Fight, because it gave me a sort of epiphany about how I should be living my Christian life. I also was very excited to eat my first Choco Taco which Adam also blogged about once. It was the most delicious thing I have ever eaten. :D

I have a long list of favorites from Owl City. When I first became a fan, I listened to the more popular songs, like Fireflies, Bird and the Worm, Vanilla Twilight and Hello Seattle. But then I listened to the rest of the songs I had gotten from my sister and I was like, "Wow, this is AMAZING!!" I also love Cave In, Sunburn, Super Honeymoon, Strawberry Avalance, Tip of the Iceberg, and especially On the Wing. The music is so intensely awesome. It's a perfect blend of all these incredible sounds.
