It's finally time for the Janette Oke special feature. :D :)

Here are some questions to start with.

How many of her books have you read? More than 35.
Which series are your favorites? This is a tough one, it's either Canadian West Saga or Seasons of the Heart.
Which two (or three) books are your favorites? A Gown of Spanish Lace and Roses for Mama.
Have you watched any of the movies? All eight.
Which movie is your favorite? Love Comes Softly, it's the only one that is very close to the book.
Have you read Janette Oke: A Heart for the Prairie by Laurel Oke Logan? Yes. It's a wonderful glimise in to her life.

I'm going to start reading Roses for Mama tomorrow. Then I'll post more.

How many of her books have you read? About 50 (I've read all her fiction except for her new series)
Which series are your favorites? Season's of the Heart
Which two (or three) books are your favorites? Dana's Valley (a modern book she wrote with her daughter) is her best IMHO it's beautifully written, tragic, and inspirational all at the same time. If you don't tear up some time during this book you have no heart. The Meeting Place is my 2nd favorite, the rest of the series was so-so.
Have you watched any of the movies? I've seen the first 6. Other than the first 2 I honestly can't stand them, they're badly acted, badly written, and the producers like have 3 different actresses play the same character, and that never works out well.
Which movie is your favorite? Love Enduring Promise, it's a really sweet love story and sort of close to the book.
Have you read Janette Oke: A Heart for the Prairie by Laurel Oke Logan? No, I've never really liked Biographies... but I'll read it some day.

If this Sig is by you please let me know, because I can't remember :-(

I've not read any books by Janette Oke and I'm not sure I will either.
I love The Love Come Softly movies series, but I also hear they differ greatly from the books- therefore I'm scared if I read the book it'll ruin the movies for me.

Ah, Janette Oke. I realize that perhaps her books may not be as nicely written (perhaps!) but I have a special place for them in my heart as they were the first series that I actually really read some years ago, plus I like the fact that she goes all the way from Marty/Clark to their grandkids...or great grand kids, or something of that sort. :) I found that cool.

The movies, I don't like as much. I just recently finished up watching the series, and I personally found that as the series went on the plots got re-used, or points overdone, and all around, while still for the most part being a nice story with good morals (the message of faith in the Lord was one I appreciated in all, I suppose) I didn't like them.

As others have said, the first two were the best- even though the second one didn't follow the book as much I still liked it, but when they changed actresses for Missie, and with some of the other story decisions that they made

, well, it was enough. I'd like to say I like the stories, but I can't. Parts of the later ones just feel too modern- with terms/words used (for instance- tuberculosis instead of what it really was called back then, consumption or something like that...) , how the people acted, etc.

I think the films I didn't like the most were Love's Unending Legacy and the final two in the series. My favourite film other then the first two was Love's Unfolding Dream, because I liked the casting, and was impressed with the fact that the actor playing Drew, from what I've read, is actually a Born Again Christian. :)

Anyways...I'm happy that someone wanted to make movies with a pretty good Christian message, but saddened by the changes that were made that didn't really have to be made..

How many of her books have you read? The count gets a bit fuzzy after 22... probably a lot closer to 30. :)
Which series are your favorites? Love Comes Softly, it's the first one I read so it has a special place in my heart. I think my second favourite was Seasons of the Heart or the Animal Friends series
Which two (or three) books are your favorites? Love Comes Softly and Love Finds a Home. I also remember liking Drums of Change and A Woman named Damaris
Have you watched any of the movies? No.
Have you read Janette Oke: A Heart for the Prairie by Laurel Oke Logan? No, I didn't even know it existed.

Mmm. Most of the Janette Oke books I read many, many moons ago. I read the Four Seasons series, the Love series and the Canadian Bride series, plus A Gown of Spanish Lace. I think I liked the Four Seasons books the best; those were sweet. The Love books I liked the next best; I re-read them sometime this year and the writing style was pretty grating in hindsight, but either way, they are MUCH better than the monstrosity that the movies are. The first two were good, but I disliked the actress change for Missy (all wrong!) and the accuracy and believability went downhill from there. I haven't even seen the last few movies. :p

The Canadian Bride books, I really didn't like. I can't remember exactly why I didn't like them, but I didn't. :p

I should dig up the Four Seasons books again and see if I still like them now...it's been probably ten years since I read them last, lol.

I didn't vote because I haven't read any Janette Oke books. I never wanted to, for some reason. I noticed 0 wasn't an option. :p My sister’s read some, though, I don’t know which.

I saw about 6 movie adaptations. I enjoyed watching all of them at the time, although the only one I was willing to watch 2-3 times was Love comes softly. I liked it the best. I thought they took pains with it: casting, directing, script. I don’t know how close it is to the book. It may be a bad adaptation. But to me, like Narnia’s PC, it’s an excellent movie! I’d watch it again! The others? Yikes! Bad script, bad acting, bad everything. Why try to create/force conflict? Why not just tell a story? /:)

L. M., FF, and Gymfan: I see we pretty much agree on the movies. =)) FF: I didn't know that about Drew. Thanks for sharing. :)

How many books have you read? I said 15-30, but it could be more than that. I've read the Love Comes Softly series(and it's sequel series), the Canadian West series, Seasons of the Heart series, Dana's Valley, that one series she did with T.Davis Bunn that I can't remember the name of, and a lot more. Hm, maybe I have read more than 30.

Which series are your favorites? Love Comes Softly

Which two (or three) books are your favorites? Dana's Valley, A Bride for Donnigan, and A Gown of Spanish Lace

Have you watched any of the movies? I have seen most of them, and hated all but the first two.

Which movie is your favorite? Love Comes Softly there's no contest there.

Have you read Janette Oke: A Heart for the Prairie by Laurel Oke Logan? No, I should. One more thing for my ever-growing reading list.

I'm afriad all the Janette Oake books I've read (probably 25+) get kind of jumbled together in my head now, since it's been a looong time since I've picked one up. I was really into them when I was about 13-15, but to be honest I find them not most wonderfully-written books and kinda bland.
I do remember really liking Roses for Mama, and the Seasons of the Heart series. I've watched...I think? all the movies. I only really liked the second one, I thought it was actually pretty sweet. The later ones I remember having some really bad acting (during which my entire family was laughing hysterically at not-supposed-to-be-funny-lines), and strange plots

Spoiler
Killing off what's-his-name, then having his wife get remarried in the next movie just so they could have a "new romance"

That was about the age when I was really into them as well. I haven't really read them since due to having other things to read and such, but sadly I think I'd find the writing style to an extent would bother me if I went back and read them, so maybe that's why I haven't, because I want to keep a good image of them in my mind. :) I do remember really enjoying The Canadian West series when I read it again one or two years ago, I have fond memories of my Mom reading that series to us as youngsters so perhaps that's why I liked it more during the re-read.

I read Roses for Mama last week. It's an enduring favorite of mine, mainly due to Angela. (yeah, I know she's the heroine... ;) ) Her devotion to her siblings, despite an opportunity to leave them to marry a wealthy rancher :p , is a wonderful example of self-sacrificing love.

I have actually enjoyed the Canadian West Saga more since we watched the Bordertown TV series ('89 to '91). I know the show came after the books, but Cpl. Clive Bennett reminds me so much of Wynn Delaney that it makes Delaney's character "come alive" even more. Hmm, I may need to re-read the CWS soon - I wonder if there are more resemblances between Dr. Marie Dumont and Elizabeth Thatcher Delaney than I realized?

How many of her books have you read? Sorry, sis, I'm not going to count tonight. It's got to be over thirty-five.
Which series are your favorites? The Canadian West Saga - it's the first Janette Oke series I ever read. ;;) *sighs sentimentally*
Which two (or three) books are your favorites? A Gown of Spanish Lace, A Woman Named Damaris, and The Measure of a Heart. Lace was the first Janette Oke book I owned and it's been at the top of my personal favorites list for so long, I don't think I could bear to remove it. Laramie never fails to win my sympathy, and Ariana is the heroine I have always wanted to be. On Damaris - if you are going to write a story about dealing with bitterness, pattern it after this one. I think Damaris' inner battles are very movingly portrayed and watching her Christian faith unfold is truly beautiful. Simple, perhaps, but beautiful. And, lastly, Measure is slowly becoming a favorite of mine. I wasn't as drawn to Anna's story at first. Yes, there's a wedding, but there is no kidnapping, no haunting past, no riveting dramas. It's only a "plain" story of a pastor's wife and her struggles with her perceived inadequacies. But somehow it's grown on me - I don't think I can really explain it, other than that Anna seems real, like her thoughts and problems could be that of any woman I know. (sorry, that really sounds dull! (-| )
Have you watched any of the movies? Seven, I think.
Which movie is your favorite? Love Comes Softly - I am a stickler for accuracy when basing a movie off of a book, and the rest of the series really disappointed me.
Have you read Janette Oke: A Heart for the Prairie by Laurel Oke Logan? Oh, yes! It was a Christmas gift from my parents one year and has had a place of honor on my bookshelves ever since.
